Yet another cross-stitch addict here. I like realistic designs, although I have been bullied in the past into doing Fairy Girl and Kipper designs for my dd. My pet hate is backstitch! My favourite pieces are a DMC stitch a photo that I did of my dd when she was 16 months old and John Clayton's Venice. I'm currently part way through Stonehenge and a Thea Gouvener flower chart which will end up about 3' square (urk!). And when I get my backside off Mumsnet one of these fine days I'll pick them back up and finish them!

I think I've seen kits of Klimt-style needlepoints, (Ehrman's possibly) and they look very tempting, the sort of thing I like, Yurtgirl. Lol at the cupboard - I have my stash scattered around the house so dh doesn't know exactly how much I have.

CathB · 23/11/2004 14:00

I have a bag full of various projects at various stages of completion but am knitting instead at present. I have a beautiful green man design which I have been working on for some time also currently on the go a W the P. The Kipper designs are lovely and two are in my to do bag!
Perhaps we cross-stitchers should come out of the closet, then it would not be assumed we are old farts and perhaps Readicut would not pass my name on to purveyors of over 50's clothing and support tights. Grrr !

I'd guess W the P is Winnie the Pooh, yg. CathB, where did you get your Green Man design from? I've been looking for a really nice one for ages.

CathB · 24/11/2004 12:03

W the P is Winnie the Pooh- and it has a ridiculously large balloon all 1 colour which is a bit of a deterrent to completion.
The Green man is Ehrman I think (packaging has a plain green border if that ring any bells), but I will check, I bought it about 5 years ago. If its not still available maybe I can (ahem) copy the pattern for you. Its quite big 8 x 5 inches , with a celtic style border around it.

Pidge · 24/11/2004 12:18

Tee-hee - another closet stitcher here. Am a bit of a novice really - not sure I know what cross-stitching is, but am currently doing an Ehrman tapestry which will hopefully one day be a piano stool cushion.

I do find the catalogues a bit old-fogeyish - all flowery and frilly. Ehrman occasionally have something funky, but there's not often much to tempt me in. Good job really, given how long these things take to complete. Plus I still have yearnings to do some knitting for baby due in March!

Uh oh yurtgirl - now you've done it - I'm already hankering after my next project! Seriously those are great - there are some really fun kids things which I could be tempted by.

Dingle · 24/11/2004 13:56

Oh no, wish I hadn't looked. Only had a quick glance at Jolly Red, there is so much there!!!
Already have a few on the go that I haven't done for over a year, and have 3 or 4 more all on the list of things to do list!
Mustn't buy,mustn't buy,mustn't buy!

Wigwambam- the green man is from the craft company, Terry Mills, W.yorkshire. I carefully wrote the number down and did not bring it in with me today ..... so more later.

I love cross-stitching. I used to knit all the time but I've got RSI and find my arm swells up if i do much nowadays. Stitching is much easier on the arms if not the eyesight!

I got fed up with doing pictures and samplers as you can really only display so many and then you start wondering what to do with them. Now I try and do 'useful' projects. At the moment I'm halfway through a tablecloth (my biggest challenge so far!) and I recently did a fleecy bedcover and a sunhat for my son and some t-shirts for my daughter. I find they wash really well in the machine and have had no problems with colours running or fading.

Freckle · 27/11/2004 13:42

I found a good way to use some pieces. I cut a hole in a cushion cover and insert the stitched piece. I've done several of these for family and they love them. I did a lovely one for my younger sister which read "I smile because you are my sister .... I laugh because there is nothing you can do about it". Certainly brought a smile to her face.

pixel · 27/11/2004 13:47

Ha! I've got that message on a fridge magnet. My sister bought it for me!

Freckle · 27/11/2004 13:55

My sister keeps the cushion on her bed, so she has to look at it every night.I suppose it beats her sitting on it .

WigWamBam · 03/12/2004 11:59

CathB - I'd be really interested in finding the Green Man, if you do have the number. I searched the Terry Mills site but couldn't find it.

CathB2 · 08/12/2004 09:58

Wigwambam - sorry about the delay, I have been out and about a lot lately. The pattern id Greenman (all one word) number 77297 from the Craft Collection. I bought it about 5 years ago, so it may not still exist. Happy to send you a copy though (I have updated my registration recently BTW).
Out of curiosity I did a google search for green man cross stitch and discovered a lot of "pagan cross stitch" sites. They tend to have the same green man design (not the one I have) but also lots of lovely dragons.

MiaouyChristmas · 08/12/2004 10:43

How did I miss this thread? I love cross stitch and design my own, am in the process of setting up a website to sell my designs (plus some others too). I am stitching one of Loch Ness at the moment (my own design) - it is HUUUGE - argh! If you are looking for other unusual designs have a look at these ones:

WigWamBam · 08/12/2004 11:25

CathB2, I tried to cat you about the green man chart but you're set up not to receive cats. I'm pretty sure this is the green man I've been looking for, but it seems not to be available any more. I'd love a copy of it, could you cat me to let me know if that's ok and how much for copying and sending.

Miaou - I love the look of the Michael Powell designs, his Venice windows and his rose hearts one are gorgeous, but I detest backstitch with a passion, and his designs are full of them! I admisre your patience if you can get through one of those designs without throwing it out of the window!
