lucysmam I saw the hexagon triceratops, there was another hexagon dinosaur too, and whilst it’s pretty I can’t think of anyone who would appreciate that over a regular dinosaur 🤷‍♀️ Dobby hat is cute.

nicecardigan that sounds stressful but glad it’s dying down for you now.

Still quite windy here but our house is exposed so we get more wind hitting us than the rest of the village which I think is probably fine now. We’ve had several trees down on roads here and fire engines have been past our house a few times. A couple of lorries have also been blown over. Also the obligatory crumpled trampoline on the school playing field. Came close to a power cut a few times, always as I was just about to make DD a bottle but we were fine. DH’s colleagues in neighbouring villages have had power cuts on and off all day, so we’ve been quite lucky really. Although we’ll need to check the garden properly tomorrow to see that no trees have down.

I’ve nearly finished the baby blanket for my friend. The pattern called for the ribbing to be done on the blanket working into the existing stitches but I couldn’t get a nice defined texture. So I’ve done the ribbing separately and I’ll just need to see it on tomorrow. Then I can post a picture of something I’ve actually finished 😮

fairisle DH somehow managed to get one a while ago, just by luck. It’s bloody massive so you might need to clear some space on the TV stand. It looks like an old school external hard drive Grin The graphics are really stunning though. We didn’t change our TV and DH played the same game on PS4 and PS5 but the graphics are so much better (and the PS4 was pretty good).

lucysmam · 18/02/2022 21:36

I' ve seen hexagon spiders too @InTheNightWeWillWish...as much as they really appeal to me in the bright colours I've seen, I'm not sure what I'd do with a giant crochet spider either 🤔🤣

@tizwozliz the Ravelry t-rex is UK terms, isn't it? I've just started the spikes for it but they seem very dinky!

CrochetBug · 18/02/2022 21:40

I've seen a hexagon turtle too. I'm definitely going to make it one day. I love turtles.

As much as DC would love a ps5 (we have 2,3 and 4) they are also looking out for cheap ps2 games. Apparently they want to go retro Grin

lucysmam · 18/02/2022 21:56

Oooh, see, a turtle sounds cool too! I wonder what else there is...off to google I pop 🤣

@CrochetBug do your boys have the itoy thingy? We have one of those & some random games lurking about. I think it was all of about 50p in CEX, many years ago.

CrochetBug · 18/02/2022 22:00

We had the eyetoy when it was new out but our lounge was so small we couldn't actually play it properly, I think it got binned at some point, probably when the ps2 broke. I didn't expect to end up with one again Hmm

lucysmam · 18/02/2022 22:05

🤣 we seem to be collecting consoles & laptops here. I haven't actually seen the itoy camera recently now I think about it, it's definitely here somewhere though! My guess would be random big bag of wires in the loft 🤔

InTheNightWeWillWish · 18/02/2022 22:36

We are a play station house here. We have a PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 and PS5 along with controllers and games for each. Actually we have two PS2s - one silver and one black - and two PS4s - the first, bulky one and then the newer, slimmer one. The PS1 is the dinky one and I think the only play station were missing is the original PlayStation - the one that was a size of a bus. We have briefly had other consoles but the interest has waned quickly and we’ve got rid of them. We can’t have all the consoles out at one time so we do download the old games on to the new devices. Although I haven’t been on the console for a while now, crochet has got in the way but we have some Lego games we need to complete. In case you couldn’t tell, it’s nerd central over here Grin

Fairislefandango · 18/02/2022 22:38

I don't really play games (well I used to play the Lego games with dh, but he's moved on a bit from them Grin). But I've seen one I quite fancy, based on Nordic folklore, where you run around beautiful Nordic landscapes as a fox and solve puzzles!

Anyway... I've finally finished my mittens! Back to doing ds' socks now. Plus maybe I'll start my hat that I designed a Fairisle motif for!

We've only ended up with so many consoles because my ex never bothered to come and collect his stuff. He's been gone 2.5 years now! It's handy though because we can have 1 console per TV. The 2 is in the lounge and mainly used on the rare occasion we watch a dvd. Then the boys switch the 3 and 4 between their bedrooms.

MerylSqueak · 19/02/2022 09:55

Those are wonderful @Fairislefandango! I love the colours.

I can't join in console chat as I've never played a video game. One of the kids I support is a total gamer and lives most if his life in VR. I feel I can't now as t's a running joke of ours Smile

sandwiches77 · 19/02/2022 13:16

Bought new wool and needles from Hobbycraft today. Looked at one of their workshops, anyone done one?

sandwiches77 · 19/02/2022 13:21

Also any tips on getting started with crochet?

CrochetBug · 19/02/2022 13:52

@sandwiches77 look up Bella cocoa on YouTube. Everyone swears by her for learning to crochet.

lucysmam · 19/02/2022 14:37

@sandwiches77 I second looking up Bella Coco! I was adamant I wasn't doing a granny square, like my friend told me to, followed her tutorial & it was like it just clicked!

lucysmam · 19/02/2022 15:07

I bought yarn for the dinos in town, and a random ball that was reduced to £1, to make myself some gloves. And two new hooks!

Made short work of the £20 of my Christmas money I had stashed 🤣 until my friend returns the money for dino yarn

Thanks CrochetBug and lucysmam I will have a look at the YouTuber you recommend. Better leave it for now as I'm in trouble with DH for spending money on wool in any case Shock

You don't need that kind of negativity on your life. Bin the husband and buy more yarn Grin

@lucysmam I'm very jealous that you have a local yarn shop that stocks stylecraft. I usually order online. I think the local ish shop stocks it but its a nightmare to get to!

I seriously underestimated how much yarn I needed for my jumper. Well I didn't under-estimate, I just didn't pay attention to the fact they were only 50g balls so bought 10 knowing that 10 (100g) balls is usually enough for a jumper Blush

InTheNightWeWillWish · 19/02/2022 15:29

Sandwiches I started with Bella Coco and her granny square tutorial. Although the 20 minute video took me about 5 hours to get through 😂 Her videos are quite clear and it all made a lot more sense after doing my first wobbly granny square. DH can’t get mad at me for buying wool, he has expensive hobbies so I think he’s just happy I have something to act as a distraction from the new games, cycling gear, football gear and guitar stuff Grin make him a hat or a scarf and then he can’t complain!

Fairisle those mittens are lovely.

lucysmam lovely colours.

lucysmam · 19/02/2022 16:27

@sandwiches77 oops...never mind 🤣 crafting keeps me sane. Dd1 has eyerolled her way round yarn shops and craft shops today but would never comment that I have enough...even when I already have perfectly fine paints or whatever & buy another set just because I fancy them.

@CrochetBug we have three! Today's is slightly cheaper than the market place one, and Boyes, hence the random ball & hooks! I think the lady on the market stocks it in limited colours too.

I need opinions please -flower or butterfly for my lady scarecrow's plaits? Our class book this term is the Scarecrow's Wedding & the teacher was going to do laminated puppets so I've made them instead! Laminated stick sun did my head in that much 🤣 They just need hats once the hair's securely stuck on. Blue top hat for him & yellow hat for her...probably with whichever I don't use on her hair.

CrochetBug · 19/02/2022 16:35

@lucysmam I prefer the flower personally.

We only have hobbycraft and John Lewis here for yarn. Well my local post office sell some, but only one brand and only about 5 colours. Then there's a localish shop but the bus there and back would cost more than postage to buy online, and while my mum takes me in the car sometimes the parking is awful and she gets stressed Grin

If i win the lottery (which I don't play) I'd open a (mainly yarn) craft shop/ centre. Like hobbycraft but better Wink

InTheNightWeWillWish · 19/02/2022 18:29

I prefer the flower.

Our village has a “bargain centre” which has an odd mix of yarns usually those some larger shop found in the dusty corner of the stock room. This is where you can also buy cards for someone’s 110th birthday and slipper socks. The town has a little independent shop which stocks stylecraft, West Yorkshire spinners and rowan so a good selection. There’s also a stall on the market that primarily sticks stylecraft. Hobby craft is 40 mins away so not a regular shop to visit.

lucysmam · 19/02/2022 20:06

@CrochetBug I don't play either; but, if I did, I'd have a very large craft room, with amazing storage!

I don't know where the nearest Hobbycraft is 🤷‍♀️ I did remember the other day though that there's an Ikea not far away, so am planning a visit to look at storage!

Dd1 decided in the end - butterflies in her hair, and flower on her hat, like on the book cover.

Have any of you seen any Five Nights At Freddies crochet patterns about? Preferably free!

Fairislefandango · 21/02/2022 21:28

Sorry @CrochetBug - I don't even know what 'Five nights at Freddies' is Blush

I've changed my mind about the Fairisle pattern I'd designed for my hat. I thought that although it's different yarn, since two of the colours are blue and cream like my mittens, I'd adapt the Nordic star pattern from the mittens to fit around the hat so they match. Can't decide whether to include a stripe of the burnt orange yarn through the middle for a bit of added interest....

Sorry - boring talking aloud post Grin. Might post a pic tomorrow and get your opinions though!

NiceCardigan · 21/02/2022 21:59

Burnt orange sounds good Fairislefandango!

I managed to finish one of my crochet wrist warmers (there was a failure one that I did first that at least showed me how the pattern worked)
