I’m glad the crochet hook turned up IntheNightWeWillWish! I keep dropping mine and it makes a clang when it hits the wooden floor. DH is not happy as the noise makes him jump Grin

I hope you feel better soon Quantum

I’ve finished my granny square bag it’s got my temperature blanket in it and the yarn I’m currently using.

Still haven't heard!!! I was expecting them to call this morning!

crazyjinglist · 11/02/2022 17:57

Sad Didn't get it. Same old same old. Apparently I was great, but they went with the candidates with more solid recent secondary school language teaching experience. Hard to get more recent experience when nobody will give you a job...

Hmmph. Opening the prosecco anyway.

NiceCardigan · 11/02/2022 18:23

Ooh I’m sorry @crazyjinglist enjoy the Prosecco and think that it’s their loss.

MrsRussell · 11/02/2022 18:23

Awwwww, bummocks!!! that sucks!

Some folks have got no sense, have they? Well, as my old opposite number at work used to say, what's for you won't go by you.

lucysmam · 11/02/2022 19:49

Ah crazy that's rubbish :( I'm totally with you on "how do you get more recent experience when no one will give you a job". Makes no sense at all to me!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 11/02/2022 20:04

Awh, I'm sorry crazy, that sucks Sad I hope you enjoy your prosecco despite it. With luck there's another job that's got your name on it around the corner.

Btw, not that I'm trying to tempt you but there was a nice looking Ashford Joy for sale on the FB group at a better price than the last one...

I like your bag NiceCardigan

tizwozliz · 11/02/2022 20:19

Sorry to hear that crazyjinglist. I ended up as a contractor as permanent positions always wanted qualifications I don't have so I didn't tick the right boxes. The same companies that I couldn't even get an interview with employed me as a contractor on a much higher rate - go figure!

My crochet mojo has gone AWOL again, I took a break from my blanket and now have an unassembled koala on the table but I can't work up the motivation to sew it all together.

I'd go back to the blanket but pup is currently being an excellent foot warmer and I don't want to disturb her to reach my crochet.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 12/02/2022 07:07

Sorry to hear that crazy. Maybe it’s in the stars that you don’t get this one, DH gets the head teacher role and you get a position when you move 🤞

FantasticFebruary · 12/02/2022 07:19

@crazyjinglist. Hope you enjoyed the prosecco! Sorry about the job!! Do you think it was really about the £££

It's one of the schools you sub at isn't it?

Maybe they were worried about losing you as a (multi talented) sub?

Still think of the extra spinning time you still have!
Many updates on DH's situation? Though if I were him I'd have told them to shove it!! They have the perfect candidate, why do they now want to look at others??

It's half term here, but my faulty body clock didn't get the message & decide 5:30 was time to get up! Grrrr

crazyjinglist · 12/02/2022 09:00

It's half term here, but my faulty body clock didn't get the message & decide 5:30 was time to get up! Grrrr

Ditto! Although the prosecco was probably the reason for that in my case!

Thanks for the commiserations and sympathy everyone. Still- at least it's half term!

I'm sorry about the job @crazyjinglist. It's a horrible feeling. I'm sure the money did play a part but they needed something better to tell you. As my Spanish DH always says, no hay mal que por bien no venga.

I wish you were at our school. DD is talented with languages but won't take French because the teacher is, let's say, unpopular. She managed not to notice DD is bilingual Spanish while teaching her Spanish. Hmm

Love that bag @lucysmam, especially the handles. Makes me want to crochet!

crazyjinglist · 12/02/2022 10:19

She managed not to notice DD is bilingual Spanish while teaching her Spanish.

Ummm.... that's advanced level crapness! Cool that you have a Spanish dh - I would like to have someone I could speak Spanish to at home! Do you speak it? I really want a chance to teach it at higher than primary level!

Right - I'm done mulling over the job thing. Bit of housework, some yoga and then and afternoon of knitting in front of the rugby I think.

Thanks for the enabling heads-up about the Ashford Joy, @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack Grin. I think, on balance, I'm almost definitely going to go for a Kiwi, probably new (unless a really good deal on a 2nd hand one comes up locally).

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 12/02/2022 11:33

Anytime crazy Grin

I've seen a few posts about Ashford price increases due early this year in case thats a issue. I swear I saw a notice on Weftblown's site but I can't see it now.

I just bought a couple of heddles I wanted from the Threshing Barn using that as an excuse. I should be able to use two together to weave herringbone and tweed fabrics on my rigid heddle which interests me very much.

Wow Meryl, that's bad!

I'm on my last chart on my cowl, I have to repeat it twice then I'm done 🥳

NC intentional btw!

tizwozliz · 12/02/2022 17:43

Ditto! Although the prosecco was probably the reason for that in my case!

I have a 671 day streak of learning Danish on Duolingo and one of today's sentences was 'She cannot sleep when she drinks wine' Grin

crazyjinglist · 12/02/2022 18:08

Yay for Duolingo! I definitely sleep badly when I drink, which is partly why I do it less and less these days. Yesterday was an exception Grin

Well I've spent a relaxing afternoon workìng on my second mitten while dh watches the rugby (and he made a cake). We're off down south to visit my parents in their new (downsized) house for the first time from Mon to Thurs, so I'll definitely be taking my knitting!

I think I need a name change too, @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound - this one was the Christmassy version of my previous username, but I think I'm ready for a new one. Something knitting-related maybe...

OP posts:
Fairislefandango · 12/02/2022 18:19

A bit knittingy, a bit Spanishy.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 12/02/2022 19:52

FairIsle I’m still defaulting to your old, non-Christmas username. I’m never going to keep up with name changes on mass!

I do like the new name changes. It takes me about 3 days to come up with a new name. I need to change mine as this is getting pretty outing but I can’t be bothered to think of a new name. Especially as you’ve both found yarn inspired names.

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 12/02/2022 20:30

I had my last one a few years and kept meaning to get around to change it so a few days doesn't seem too long in comparison InTheNight Grin

Nice Fairisle, I like it Smile

tizwozliz Grin

I've half a chart left to do then I'm going to tackle the maths for the jumper I put aside because of covid. It seemed an impossible task last week but it's back to being interesting today so I think I can call that a full recovery.

NiceCardigan · 12/02/2022 21:30

I’ve had my username for about 7 years so I’m a bit attached to it. I changed to it after a fight on an Oxbridge candidates thread. I’m very mild mannered usually but it it was brutal in there!

lucysmam · 12/02/2022 21:51

I've had my username since I joined; I did "try on" another one, very briefly, but didn't feel like "me" at all 🤷‍♀️

We've been into town today so popped into the market place yarn shop for yarn & a new hook to start the Dobby ears hat for my colleague. It's working up pretty fast so far.

I'll pop up some progress pics tomorrow evening.

Fairislefandango · 13/02/2022 09:03

I've had quite a few usernames over the many years I've been on MN, including a couple related to a tv character I was a bit obsessed with for a while Blush. This is my first knitting-related one though!

sandwiches77 · 13/02/2022 11:14

Calling help, sleepy knitting has resulted in this. Have I got my knit and purl stitches mixed up? If so, how do I remember which one is which Blush

Knit, Crochet and Natter 8: Keep Calm and Carry Yarn!
SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 13/02/2022 11:43

Yes, you've done a section of knit purl knit purl in the middle which is giving you that nice bit of stocking stitch. It's very neat even if you didn't mean it!

You'll get used to it the more you do, but knit stitches go from the front to the back and purl stitches from the back to the front... Garter stitch which is the bit you mean to do can be done with all purls rows or all knit rows, but it's mostly done with all knit rows.
