Oh wow @CrochetBug that is a massive change! Has he done the 'runs fingers through ha...' shiiiiit there's no hair anymore thing yet?? I like it (and his hair looks very shiny too)

CrochetBug · 22/10/2021 19:04

Lol @lucysmam. He hasn't yet but he keeps flicking it like he's in a hair commercial Grin His hair is seriously beautiful. Way nicer than mine! Plus my mum washed it and she buys posh shampoo Grin

lucysmam · 22/10/2021 19:11

Did your Mum cut it too!? I'd like properly shiny hair like that. Unfortunately, mine is sort of salt & pepper ish these days 🙄

CrochetBug · 22/10/2021 19:26

She did. She's not a hairdresser but did a good job! We figured if worst came to worst we could go to the barbers and get it fixed!

lucysmam · 22/10/2021 19:31

I'm impressed! It's very similar to dd1's when hers was first cut...without the pricetag.

MerylSqueak · 22/10/2021 21:56

Looks very handsome@CrochetBug

Frustrating day. Mucked up my brioche knitting BY putting a safety line through it. Don't know how I managed that. I had to frog it. It was looking do great. Lost confidence now.

DH also got positive PCR test so that's 3 out of 4 of us now. They're not too bad but it's a bit of a worrying time. My bloody knitting could at least behave itself!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 23/10/2021 08:04

Very handsome crochetbug your mum did a great job. My hair was a similar length on Monday and I chopped it off, although only to shoulder length as I still wanted to be able to put it up. I do this quite a lot - grow it really long and then chop it off. Still the hairdressers panic and check that I want it all going. Is your son don’t sting the hair, is that why it’s in plaits?

Sorry it’s now 3/4 with a positive PCR Meryl. Your knitting should definitely get that you’re tense and behave itself.

We have a free Saturday, which never happens. I want to do something before baby comes but I’m not sure what to do today. Normally I’d suggest wrapping up warm and heading to the beach but I don’t think I can do the walking that comes with a beach day Sad There’s a nice country park but that’s a similar situation and toilets are infrequent in the quiet bit, which is where we would usually head. I’m not really a shopping person so going to town or a shopping centre doesn’t make me excited. The next option is a garden centre but I don’t think they’ll have their Christmas bits up yet, which is mainly why I like garden centres. Plus I can’t treat myself to a cake, which is the other main reason I like garden centres. I’ve got tonnes of crochet to be getting on with if we stay in but outside is calling.

MerylSqueak · 23/10/2021 08:19

Our two garden centres have their Christmas stuff in @InTheNightWeWillWish

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 23/10/2021 08:36

Our two garden centres have their Christmas stuff in *@InTheNightWeWillWish*
Our local garden centre has had Christmas stuff —overwhelming— across most of the huge site since early September. I avoid it like the plague, it’s really expensive and not good quality 😡
YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 23/10/2021 08:37

Bum......why doesn’t—word— work!,

lucysmam · 23/10/2021 09:01

@InTheNightWeWillWish our local garden centres have their Christmas displays up. My colleague went looking for a tree last week & sent pictures 🎄 She said there was quite a bit out of stock but it was still nice for a steady wander.

I've never heard of a safety line @MerylSqueak so had a google. It looks like a very useful tool, when it works properly!

How's everyone else this morning? :)

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 23/10/2021 09:53

Oh no Meryl, sorry to hear that Sad That's so annoying about the life line too! It'll get easier to read and fix the more you do it though.

CrochetBug wow, that's a big change! I love his new style, your mum did a brilliant job!

I've seen Christmas stuff in so many places InTheNight so it might be worth a go! Alternatively, TK Maxx if there's any near you out of town? They have Christmas stuff in and they're kind of like a garden centre but with homewares and random crafty bits usually....

It'll be -- turning into — because your keyboard thinks it's being clever YanTanTethera!

CrochetBug · 23/10/2021 10:29

Thanks everyone. I think he's handsome too. But I'm biased Grin Yes it's in plaits so he can donate it. That was his whole reason for growing it.

@InTheNightWeWillWish our garden centres have their Christmas displays up too. How long have you got left until baby arrives?

We're off to the local country park to play crazy golf and have a picnic.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 23/10/2021 11:50

Thanks everyone. The garden centre did have a nice Christmas display up and I’ve treated myself to some acorns for my tree. DH picked the garden centre and conveniently it didn’t have a craft section. He played all innocent but it’s one he’s been to before and I haven’t Hmm

crochetbug I donated mine a couple of years ago. I think I have too much grey to donate now Grin I’m 34 weeks so technically still a little while. However, hospital have said they’ll probably induce me in about 4 weeks! Which means I really need to get on and finish some of the stuff I’m trying to make for baby but there’s so much sewing!

lazylinguist · 23/10/2021 15:09

Wow - impressive amateur haircut @CrochetBug! Impressive he grew it just to donate it too!

What a pain about the brioche, Meryl. Not much of a lifeline if it causes a mess-up rather than rescuing you from one! I've used one once, but it was in something pretty simple I think.

I've got about 40 sleeve rows to do to finish my jumper - a few more plain rows, then the fairisle cuff section and the i-cord bund-off (which won't be scary this time!).

I've made four little ghosts and a pumpkin so far for dd2's bunting. Hopefully get the other three pumpkins done tomorrow.

I'm not sure whether to just make a chain to string them from? Or to root out some ribbon (although I don't think I have anything Halloween-ey in my stash). Any suggestions? I can't remember who was making bunting to tag you to see what you're doing 🙈🙄

Exciting times InTheNight. We were talking earlier about how I had a massive contraction on the loo when I went into hospital to have dd1 & nearly gave birth sat there 🤣 Dd1 was not impressed & dd2 was slightly disappointed that her story isn't quite so interesting (although she was nearly a Christmas day baby 🎅).

@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack as you liked the other jumper I was lusting after the other day, I thought you might like this. I don't think the neckline is as nice and it might be a bit basic for you but at least there's a pattern! And it's in the round too.

sophs29 · 24/10/2021 17:07

@CrochetBug wow that's such a change! Does he still like it now he's had some time to get used to it? Bless him for donating it too!

@MerylSqueak I love that jumper you've linked in your last post! Wish I could knit! The yarn makes it look great too I think!

Me and my boys don't have covid, just the worst cold ever 🙄😂 but it's great news so it means I can go to my mums tomorrow on her birthday!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 24/10/2021 17:49

Oooh Meryl I do like that very much! Thanks!

I'm working away at my sleeves for my test knit, we're heading out tomorrow so I'm going to hopefully get a fair bit done while DH drives. I would drive but since he doesn't knit being a passenger is wasted on him Wink

How are you getting on with your last sleeve *lazy?

I forgot to say I love your jumper sophs! That's a really nice colour scheme you've used.

Those are brilliant lucysmam! I would tott string them up as bunting. It was me with the autumn bunting but I've done a pumpkin which the DC have liberated and that's about it so far Grin

lucysmam · 24/10/2021 20:44

Happy birthday to your mum for tomorrow sophs, I hope you all have a lovely day!

I think I'll make a chain to string the ghosts and pumpkins from, tomorrow.

You can't see very well on this pic, but this is where I've got to with the thread village. I'm considering frogging it & starting again tomorrow - I don't think my turning chains are lining up properly & it's slightly squiffy 🤔

lucysmam · 24/10/2021 21:13

One finished house side - I am going to frog; the edges aren't quite straight, but it fits the blocking guide nicely so I'm pleased about that. & it didn't take as long as I thought it would even though the thread feels strange to crochet with.

sophs29 · 24/10/2021 21:16

Aww thank you @lucysmam your little garland is going to look so cute! I'm so sorry I'm no help regarding the village, I find it really hard to imagine things unless I'm crocheting them myself if that makes any sense! I'm glad you found the right 'yarn' for the job though!

sophs29 · 24/10/2021 21:17

Oooh @lucysmam the thread looks very shiny 😍

lucysmam · 24/10/2021 21:27

I think it's a combination of the thread itself having a slight sheen, my pillow being shiny (I don't actually like these pillows any more 🙄) and using the flash 🤣

I enjoyed making that little piece tonight so hopefully 🤞🤞 I'll have the makings of a cottage to show off by the end of the week. I need to acquire some foam or something to block them on though, and trace their "footprints" onto plastic wallets so I don't end up with them stuck to paper.

I'll pop up a picture of the bunting tomorrow when it's in place on the fireplace. They needed blocking slightly to stop them curling at the edges, so they're currently drying 👻🎃

sophs29 · 24/10/2021 22:39

Oh and thank you @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack I missed your post last time I quickly scrolled through! I'm jealous that you can knit in the car, when I was younger I used to suffer really badly with travel sickness and it's recently started to come back again so I can't look down in the car or it's just so much worse! I hope you manage to get lots done though ☺️
