Oh good lazy Grin you can explain it to me then Wink

lazylinguist · 03/10/2021 11:03

In the video she doesn't use an extra dpn to pick up the 'legs' from the cast-on end of the icord, she just does the Kitchener stitch by grafting the stitches directly from the icord with the darning needle. And she picks up both 'legs' of each stitch rather than just the rh one.

It's from about 9:15 into video.

That's a lovely pattern@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack . I imagine black is a bit of a challenge. The pattern I am looking at is this one. I suppose I am doubtful because I can't see why it needs to be knitted from the middle out. Also because I am thinking of doing it with another yarn too but I would want to double it and I am not confident. I suppose it wouldn't be too hard.

Sewing up is my least favourite job too. I've made a cushion case that I like everything about except the sewing up. I've redone it three times but I still hate it. It just sits in a drawer.

lazylinguist · 03/10/2021 12:04

Flavia - I love the Rococo jumper. It will look very elegant in black!
Meryl - gorgeous scarf pattern! I like the picture of the blue version where you can really see the overall effect of the design.

I've got umpteen jobs to do today before I can sit down and have a go at this icord malarkey. Rainy dog walk done. Now housework and teaching invoices to do. Fortunately dh has offered to go and do the weekly shop!

Oh that is lovely Meryl! This projects notes are quite helpful www.ravelry.com/projects/ArtLady/seol-gansey-scarf

If you wanted to see how she writes her patterns and you have access to magazines in the Libby app though your library, there's a Gansey lace sweater by her in The Knitter. It's on my must knit list except that it only comes in bust size 36...

Ahh, thanks lazy I'll have a watch of that Smile

Thanks for spotting that. It seems that knitter has a fair few problems with the pattern!

lucysmam · 03/10/2021 20:19

Any tips for frogging after sewing ends in? I decided to frog a pair of gloves, to turn into another pair of gloves, but cannot for the life of me find just the one end to unravel them by Confused

MerylSqueak · 04/10/2021 06:43

Not really@lucysmam. I just dig around with a darning needle and a strong light. Maybe phone light on a tripod?

lazylinguist · 04/10/2021 08:58

Ooh no I'd be hopeless at that, @lucysmam - sorry!
Well with all that fuss about doing my icord bind-off, I didn't have time to even look at it in the end! Won't get time this evening either as I'll be at choir. Tomorrow it is then...

InTheNightWeWillWish · 04/10/2021 09:25

lucysmam I would try using a bright torch on the ends where I would expect the sewn ends are. Then sort of poke about with a needle.

In one of my early projects that I had to frog after sewing in ends, I basically went about 7 stitches in and made a little snip with some scissors and frogged from there. Just forfeited the bit of wool in the first few stitches.

NiceCardigan · 04/10/2021 09:47

I managed to do the icord on my sweater @lazylinguist but I have no idea how and would probably be unable to repeat it.

We are away in Gloucestershire with the DC and their partners and everyone is sleeping off last nights last dinner so I'm regretting not bringing my knitting as I could be doing some now. I'll have to read my book instead.

lazylinguist · 04/10/2021 10:24

I may get some extra knitting time after all. It's been like a monsoon here for a few days and I may find I'm unable to get to work due to flooding!

OP posts:
lazylinguist · 04/10/2021 10:26

Hope you're having better weather than us for your stay in Gloucestershire, @NiceCardigan. Fancy not bringing your knitting though - tut! Grin

OP posts:
CrochetBug · 04/10/2021 11:15

@lucysmam I ended up snipping a corner and sacrificing a few inches of yarn much like InTheNight did.

@NiceCardigan not taking your knitting Shock I hardly ever leave the house without some yarn and a hook Grin

@lazylinguist hope the flooding isn't too bad! Extra knitting time is always good though.

I've just found out that an old friend of mine (as in she was old, not that I've known her for 30 years, although I have known her for about 13 years) has died. I'm watching Rocketman and crying.

Also had a rather large delivery of tablets. I'll rattle when I walk!

lazylinguist · 04/10/2021 12:55

So sorry to hear about your friend, @CrochetBug. Flowers
Rattling when you walk sounds kind of fun. Like maracas Grin. Let's hope all those tablets do the trick!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 04/10/2021 14:45

Sorry to hear about your friend crochetbug. Hopefully the tablets will help and you’ll be able to reduce them shortly as the diet changes take hold.

lucysmam · 04/10/2021 17:10

Thanks, I think I might just give up & make the gloves out of the other pink aran I bought.

Sorry about your friend @CrochetBug Thanks sending you a gentle hug.

CrochetBug · 04/10/2021 17:19

Thank you all. For once DS responded with something other than "OK?" Said with a tone of confusion as if I'd just told him I have a foot fetish or something (I don't). I got "oh. That's sad" which I guess is an improvement as reactions go Hmm

I was also going to frog a glove. I started a pair for DS1 last year. I've finished one and was going to make the second. His hands are too big. And they are the biggest size the pattern makes so I'll have to make them up. He has ginormous hands. And feet. He's generally rather massive. But then I'm only 5ft1 so think everyone is tall Wink he's really fussy about gloves too!

So far the tablets are making me pee even more than usual. Ffs. Grin

lucysmam · 04/10/2021 18:08

Everyone's tall to me as well CrochetBug; I'm 4'11" 🤷‍♀️

lucysmam · 04/10/2021 21:42

I started the second pair of gloves; I need the 3.75mm hook I think rather than the 4 I tried 🤷‍♀️ .

MerylSqueak · 05/10/2021 06:53

I'm sorry to hear about your friend@CrochetBug Flowers

lazylinguist · 05/10/2021 21:57

Hurrah - I've done my icord bind-off! The actual icord bit was easy and made a lovely neat edge. As expected, it was the picking up stitches and grafting the ends together with Kitchener stitch which was the fiddly bit!
