Oh no lazy how annoying! Yarndale on Saturday though, I'm very jealous Smile is there anything you've got on your must see list?

That's lovely CrochetBug!

I've been knitting swatch after swatch at the moment and I'm having trouble matching a pattern to the wool I have. I could recalculate the stitch counts but I really just wanted something interesting but not too brain intensive. Something will turn up but until then, more swatching...

lazylinguist · 21/09/2021 18:19

I haven't really sat down and looked what there is yet, Flavia. Must do that over the next couple of days. Awaiting dh's pcr result. Although I'm perfectly well and double jabbed and therefore am no longer required to self-isolate if he tests positive, my schools might choose not to have me in (because they can easily manage without an hour or so of French for one week for the sake of being on the safe side!). Ah well.... all the more time for knitting!

Oh, sorry, I meant the MOT being annoying, not your DH Blush I hope he feels better soon and it isn't Covid!

lazylinguist · 21/09/2021 18:33

Grin Dh isn't too annoying when ill, fortunately! He's not one of the moaning, groaning dressing-gown-of-doom types! In fact I keep having to tell him to sit down and rest. While I was out he made a massive batch of crab apple wine, and now he's feeling feeble again Hmm.

DHs are always annoying. That's why I don't have one Grin and I can't find a man who can handle me

sophs29 · 21/09/2021 19:02

Aww cute card @CrochetBug
And hopefully your DH starts feeling better soon @lazylinguist My DP is one of the typical men that gets man flu and is the only human on the planet to ever of felt ill 🙄😂

I finished another pair of socks/slipper socks, they only took me 2 days which I'm quite proud of! I'm a bit annoyed that one has more purple in than the other but oh well, they're still comfy and a birthday present for my sister, might even make her a second pair!

I finished one of the two WIPs I wanted to do this week. A messy bun hat for my friend. I just need to see my ends in but that’s only a 5 min job when I remember where I’ve put my needles.

Currently trying to work on my random stripe blanket but I’m not sure if I’ll get it done this week and whether I should instead move to a different project. I’ve got about 5-6 hours in the car as a passenger over the next two days, so plenty of time to get some crochet done but my random stripe blanket isn’t portable so I might have to dig through the ottoman to see what can be done easily in the car.

Oh @InTheNightWeWillWish I love the idea of a messy bun hat! That one looks great! I'm always sporting the 'mum bun' 😂 what type of yarn did you use?
I've been looking to make my DS a hat and looked at some messy bun hats too last night and they all use chunky yarn! I don't think I have any in my stash! Only Dk or 4ply!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 22/09/2021 08:33

That's pretty InTheNight!

If you double up DK it'll give you a chunky weight sophs or 1 DK and 2 4ply will be a little heavier again. There, my enabling is now done for the day Grin

sophs29 · 22/09/2021 10:14

Oooh thanks for the tip @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack Grin

InTheNightWeWillWish · 22/09/2021 12:23

Sophs the pattern was a paid for one from Etsy but uses DK. I liked it because it has a full beanie option, messy bun option and a headband option, which I’ll make for myself. The full beanie only uses 100g of DK, I think the messy bun version used probably about 70g of DK.

This is the pattern - www.etsy.com/uk/listing/796522470/avalyn-beanie-pdf-digital-pattern-file?ref=yr_purchases

tizwozliz · 22/09/2021 13:40

Going to see my friend and new baby at 4 so finally finished the blanket (just sewing the ends in) and whale I was making!

They’re lovely tizwozliz.

My car was definitely designed by a crafter! The passenger door handle is just the perfect size for squeezing a ball of yarn in place!

lazylinguist · 22/09/2021 18:19

That's so lovely @tizwozliz!
@InTheNightWeWillWish - I love the messy bun hat (and indeed the look of a messy bun - unfortunately my hair is incapable of tye volume or length to achieve one that doesn't look crap!).

OP posts:
sophs29 · 22/09/2021 18:57

Thank you so much @InTheNightWeWillWish I just bought the pattern! I can see myself wearing all styles so worked out a bargain really! Haha great thinking with the yarn holder!

@tizwozliz they're lovely! They compliment each other so well!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 22/09/2021 21:05

lazy my hair looks awful in a messy bun too! I do tend to have my hair up in a bun but it tends to be a librarian bun at the nape of my neck. My friend can definitely rock the messy bun though and she’s got lovely blonde hair so the grey will look really nice against her hair.

I’m usually a cold person but my head actually gets too hot in full hats but my ears get cold, so I tend to go for headbands. As sophs said I could see myself making all three styles (although not necessarily for myself) and so it was a great bargain. Especially as I tend to lose my headbands quite easily, so I might be making myself one quite frequently. I had a teal coloured crochet headband (bought before I started to crochet) with a giant flower on it. I used to wear it for work before I lost it. So I’d turn up on a farm with my giant crocheted flower headband Grin I’m planning on using my birthday present wool for my headband so when I go back to work and site visits (I’m still at work but it’s too hot for a headband and I’m stopping my site visits) so I can look equally as unprofessional!

I don't even manage a librarian bun, InTheNight! Speaking of librarians... I'm about to apply for a job as a school librarian! Quite fancy it!

Love seeing everyone's work. The socks are looking great! The baby blanket, the bun hat, the crazy impressive yoke. So much going on here. I read every day.

I'm on the verge of finishing my cable cardigan. I've learnt soooo much - cable stitches, and more importantly the construction of garments as this is my first. It was all made as separate pieces and sewn together but i feel confident in my skills Moving forward. This was broken into 4 pocket pieces, a hood, 2 side panels, 2 front panels, a back piece and 2 sleeves. Absolutely crazy but im worth it 😂 i made a few changes as well, I made it longer and the sleeves are very short so I'm making those longer. Made the pockets bigger. Ill post it up as soon as I can get a good picture. I feel like i could take anything on now after that. I have been considering mahjong myself another one and also found an incredibly lovely granny square cardigan online I've been dreaming about.

Love that hand dyed wool 😍

lazylinguist · 23/09/2021 20:22

Sounds impressive, @Myshitisreal! I hate sewing pieces together and am crap at it, which is why I'm making a no-sew jumper! All done in the round, and you cast off stitches for the sleeves, put the armhole edges onto a stitch holder and then pick them up later on dpns and knit the sleeves in the round too. Not a single stitch of sewing!

OP posts:
Myshitisreal · 23/09/2021 20:51

Yeah that sounds more like it 😂 to be honest I had no idea what I was letting myself in for when I bought the pattern. I've done a fair bit of googling and read some articles about the different types of jumpers etc. I'm so proficient in some areas and so basic in others. I didn't know what a yoke was 🤭. So I'm on a big massive learning curve. I never had the confidence to read patterns or make clothing, so I took a big jump with this one.

I took photos today, ill stick a couple up. I think the only way I'm gonna get a good picture is to wear it and get someone to take photos, so the bed pics will have to do for now .

Myshitisreal · 23/09/2021 20:55

There we go. I'm still bordering it, and need to finish the sleeves as far too short. I started doing rows after casting on, but the stitches being in a different direction is bothering me so I might take those out and make a tubular section to finish the sleeve and sew it on. Can't half ass it now 🧐😵

That looks great @Myshitisreal!

Very cute whale and blanket @tizwozliz

And great socks . I don't think the extra purple really spoils them.

Progress on my scarf is very slow but I really like it. I've started two new courses recently and I am knackered!

I’m in counting corner - it’s just a basic sock pattern but goodness knows what I’m doing with it.

lazylinguist · 23/09/2021 22:06

I made a mistake on the sleeve decreases on my jumper. Not too big a deal though - will sort it out tomorrow!

lazylinguist · 23/09/2021 22:09

Wow - fab cabling, @Myshitisreal! And it's got a hood! I've never made anything with a hood before. There's a hooded cardigan thingy I linked to ages ago on the thread which I fancied making, but the hood looks weirdly big, so I'm not sure... Plus it needs bits sewn together Angry Grin
