A thread for all woolly crafters, from total beginners to old hands! Previous thread here

I just find it incredibly relaxing and brain-freeing to get everything out of my head and into my journal. Not in an emotional 'dear diary' sense, but thoughts, plans, admin, appointments, orders, kids' stuff etc. Also I teach languages at multiple schools, have private students and do supply teaching at other schools. When it comes to doing my tax return (and remembering where the heck I'm supposed to be Grin), it's very useful! I put fun stuff in there too though!

Oh yes I have a 'my big book of bright ideas' book, which I write whatever's in my head, things I want to make or buy etc so I suppose a journal would be a good idea! Sounds like the organisation is definitely good for you @lazylinguist ☺️

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 03/09/2021 20:59

Ha, I'm on that bullet journal thread. I was TeaPleaseLouise Grin I got all my posts under that username deleted, something to do with outing myself I think.

I love bullet journals, it's like carrying an extra brain around with you.

lucysmam · 03/09/2021 21:39

I could do with an extra brain Flavia, this one feels full up tonight Grin

I really fancy making a proper pair of cable socks - I've quite enjoyed the cable bits of these - but am not so keen on paying out a fiver for a pattern after the fiasco with the cardigan pattern 🙄

Maybe I'll wing it & give it a go without a pattern. & use the ones I can find, that aren't cabled, to help with the heel/toe/cuff sections.

(Maybe this is why my poor brain feels full up...always got the next, next, next thing vaguely queued ready to go 🤔🤯).

What a good way of putting it!

Argh - I'm trying to finish the ribbing on my Goldwing and my silly cat keeps trying to sit on it!

@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack

I remember that username!!!!!

@lazylinguist
it could very well have been one of your threads.
it was sometime around Dec 2015 - Feb 2016.
if it was you then thank you so much!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/09/2021 00:28

@lucysmam

I make socks two-at-a-time (TAAT) on separate short circs, as you can see on pic.
I knit 5-10 rows on one, then swap and do the same on the other.
it's the only way I can keep the tension matching.

So far I've made 2 full pairs, several heels, toes, cuffs and half socks but had to frog them all because nothing fitted. I find knitting easy, but fitting a nightmare!
If they had all fitted straight away I'd have about 8 pairs done by now!

I have 2 pairs that I can actually wear, although 1 one pair not quite right, but I'm not frogging them!
I have another pair almost finished.

Ha - funny to think some of us were hanging out on the Bujo threads together!

Weirdly, I don't really seem to have tension problems much. The only time I worry about it is when I'm making something like a jumper, where being a bit off on the gauge could potentially make a big difference over a lot of stitches, and I'm never entirely convinced I've chosen the right size anyway! Oh and my tension with cables is always bad!

Thanks Zing! It seems two at a time is the way to go so I'll try that with the swirly heel ones & see if it improves.

MerylSqueak · 04/09/2021 09:11

Sorry I haven't kept up very well this week.

I love that blanket @ForCluckSake. What's the pattern?

Was it @lucysmamwhi mentioned cable socks? I spent a happy hour last night on Ravelry because of that post. A thousand or so free cable socks patterns there! I couldn't choose a favourite to suggest.

Two shawls to block today. Not my favourite thing but necessary as they're lacy. I'll post pics if I like them!

lucysmam · 04/09/2021 09:33

@MerylSqueak I tried Ravelry but didn't have much luck. Maybe my search terms/filters were wrong - what did you put in? I don't seem to find much on it tbh, I think maybe I use it wrong 🤣🙈

MerylSqueak · 04/09/2021 09:43

I put in cable socks then dropped down to patterns below the bit where it comes up with suggestions. Then I filtered by craft, availability (free) and then under I think what they call design elements I selected cable again. I'll double check what I did. Did you want crochet or knitting?

lucysmam · 04/09/2021 09:46

Crochet for the moment. I still haven't got round to attempting knitting.

I'll try again using those filters after we've been to asda.

MerylSqueak · 04/09/2021 09:52

Yes. Crochet not so good. I
I'll pm you my search. It's not quite what I put for you. I like the purple ones and the last ones but haven't investigated closely.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 04/09/2021 10:10

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba I try not to say anything on the internet my DGM would be horrified to read so hopefully not for the wrong reasons Wink You put together a combination of colours of stylecraft for me for a blanket for my SIL on your colour pallets thread Smile

lucysmam · 04/09/2021 10:28

Thank you @MerylSqueak, I've had a quick browse for now but will look properly later on :)

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/09/2021 10:57

@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack

yes! that's it. I think I even named it Tea something 😁

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/09/2021 10:59

sorry @lucysmam I forgot your socks were crocheted.
I tried to crochet socks but they were way too thick

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 04/09/2021 12:08

Zing You did, it was very pretty! I'm rubbish at putting colours together, I still have all the ones you made saved on my Pinterest for reference Smile

I've got my jumper sides sewn up and I'm on the ribbing. Then just sleeves to go, I'm leaning towards short ones now so I can soak it and chuck it in the spinner today and wear it tomorrow, instant gratification is my downfall Grin

lazylinguist · 04/09/2021 12:25

I was reading your last post and thought "Ah - we're at the same point on our jumpers!" Flavia, then I laughed when you said you wanted to wear it tomorrow Grin. I'll probably do my sleeves by Christmas... Plus you started yours months after me, I think!

OP posts:
lucysmam · 04/09/2021 16:35

I've done some more of my second sock this afternoon; sewing the ends as I go is definitely better than waiting until I'm done! Hopefully get to the end of the spike stitch section quickly - I've decided I don't particularly like them so will look for an alternative I don't mind if they come up in any future patterns.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 04/09/2021 21:51

lazy Well I usually fly though fairisle because it's fun and then I gave up and did about 100 rows in 15 mins using the knitting machine and decided to do short sleeves so I don't think it's a fair comparison Grin

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 04/09/2021 21:53

Oooh NiceCardigan I'm seriously jealous! Beautiful colours!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 05/09/2021 07:02

Ooo nicecardiagn I love those colours. Do you know what you’re going to make with them yet? I’m not saying you need a project to buy yarn (obviously) but for me, the minute I buy new yarn I have to drop all other projects and work out a pattern with that yarn. And usually start it too because I have no self control Blush

Deramores have got mystery bundles on sale at the minute and I’m so tempted. I love a mystery bundle. I was talking to DH about mystery bundles and he just didn’t get it, what’s the fun in not knowing what I’ll get. With the need for regular sized stripes in rainbow order and not getting the thrill of a mystery bundle, can you tell my DH is quite ordered?
