Yes it's Glencoe. I might make a swatch, because I always have problems with gauge when I do cable.

Cute tea cosy, @Buntyforgirls!

My new looms that I ordered back at the end of Jan have finally arrived....and I’ve just realised I already have the blue one 🤦🏼‍♀️

I really thought I’d gotten a size down from what I already have. Technically I can afford to get the one I actually want but I should probably try and resist because I don’t really need it. Once lockdown is over where I live I may try and sell the extra loom, this brand isn’t sold here and the shipping from US is super expensive so I don’t think I’d have any issues shifting it. Sigh...

At least the green one is the right size, altho I've tried a few stitches on it and I can already tell it’s going to make the dodgy nerves in my hand flare up, so think it’ll be something I can only use in short bursts. That’s as fine a gauge as you can get on a loom! It’s supposed to make a small adult sock but I certainly won’t be making anything that can fit over my cankles I don’t think 😂

Urgh! My cables are still not right! Back I go again.

I'm going to do something else though tonight. The mantis isn't well & dd2's very worried about him so I'm going to make her a bookmark since she commented earlier that the one she's using is rubbish.

I'll make a mini Hogwarts house scarf unless I find a mantis one (although a mantis might not be good right now!)

spamm · 09/03/2021 17:26

@Buntyforgirls - that tea cosy is completely adorable. How clever!

My enforced sitting and knitting was productive as I finished the cowl for my sister. I was achy all day Sunday but much better on Monday. Now have to figure out when DH will qualify fir the vaccine.

I frogged my socks and started again and I am much happier - I think a ribbed sock will fit so much better. Let's see what this pair is like! Still waiting for my KAL wool to arrive.

Ooh that was the same cowl I'm (still!) making, wasn't it @spamm - the Sockhead one? It looks really good. I've been distracted from mine by the CAL!

lucysmam Hope Errol gets better soon! I don’t suppose you can take a Mantis to the vets. You’ve got a lot of patience for this blanket, I’d have probably given up by now, found another pattern and started making it.

lucysmam · 09/03/2021 21:53

Thanks InTheNight, he seems to be alright at the moment. He's alert to movement & hanging as he should be. I didn't know they could vomit until seven o'clock this morning though! I suspect he's just over eaten so we'll see how he goes over the next few days.

I'm stubborn af sometimes but am about ready to find a different pattern for what I want! It's really frustrating me!

spamm · 10/03/2021 02:55

Yes - @lazylinguist - thank you! I am pretty happy with it, it came out nice, although if I were to do it again, I would probably use one size smaller needles (as the pattern says) and try and tighten it up a bit. But I think my sister would love it. I may make another one for my mom for next winter.

PlinkPlink · 10/03/2021 08:10

Oh my... I've missed alot.

So... I've never done cable before so I need to get some cable needles. I'll order them today and they'll arrive pretty quick with amazon.

I've got to check my stash too as I could do with using up some of the wool I have had in there for years 😂😂

@lazylinguist that ball of wool looks lovely!!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 10/03/2021 09:40

Bent paperclips work too Plink if you want to get on with it in the meantime Smile

Poor Errol lucysmam, I hope he's better today. I had no idea insects could vomit either Shock Have you checked Ravelry for the patten your using? They can be on there even if they're not for sale on it and if it was you could check out the project notes of anyone else who's made it.

Oh I love how the colours pooled on your cowl spamm!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/03/2021 09:40

I just made some of these, as requested by Gds’s school - he’s in reception.
Other than that, with so much yarn in a mass of different colours to use up, I’m making a ‘patchwork’ knitted blanket, but in long strips, so less sewing up, which will eventually go to a charity. They want at least single bed size, so it’s going to take quite a while, but nice mindless TV knitting.
Also making a Worry Monster - another stash buster - which will eventually go somewhere it’s needed. But he’s non-TV knitting, or I’m bound to go wrong amid a lot of loud cussing.

Bent paperclips! Grin very inventive! Grin

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 10/03/2021 10:26

You'll inevitably lose your cable needles, they can disappear into thin air in the blink of an eye so it's handy to have backups Grin

lazylinguist · 10/03/2021 11:24

So, it is just @spamm waiting for KAL wool, or is anyone else too?

I did a little bit more of my Sockhead Cowl last night after finishing another section of the CAL blanket. It felt quite relaxing - I think I still find crochet more tiring on the wrists and hands than knitting!

lucysmam · 10/03/2021 13:59

He seems to be better today, thanks Flavia. No more vomit & he's following movement so still alert. I think possibly just over-eaten.

I didn't think to check Ravelry, good idea! I'll do that now while I eat the slice of pie my friend's dad sent round for my lunch.

lucysmam · 10/03/2021 17:20

I've been busy this afternoon making this Hufflepuf scarf bookmark for dd2. There were/are plenty of other things I could have been getting on with but my brain is ready for "silence day" as I have named tomorrow. Both girls back at school so, other than work, I plan to spend the day alone and in, well, silence!

lucysmam lovely little bookmark. I’m in the process of making a hufflepuff scarf for my mother in law but it’s taking so long. Then I’ve got to make a ravenclaw one for FIL. I should be getting on with that but instead I’m making them dragons.

CrochetBug · 10/03/2021 21:14

Love the little scarf (proud Hufflepuff here)
DS2 wants a Ravenclaw one because none of the ones you can buy are the right colours. Even the official ones. :(

My mum cast on for my KAL for me because the ones I did were so tight Grin
Not that I've done any since! Grin

lucysmam · 10/03/2021 21:59

Thank you both 😊 I thought it might cheer her up a bit. I now have several requests for them in various house colours 🙄

I'm frogging the cardigan & going back to the blanket and bear for a while.

I have no idea where I'm going wrong but my cables don't do the crossing over thing they're meant to do 🤷‍♀️

I'll give it a while then try again.

CrochetBug · 10/03/2021 22:12

@lucysmam does the pattern creator explain how to do the cable stitch? I know you said you found a YouTube video, but I'm wondering if it uses a different technique. When I googled it I found loads of different ways to do it, none of which were over 4 stitches like your pattern says.

lazylinguist · 10/03/2021 22:14

Both girls back at school so, other than work, I plan to spend the day alone and in, well, silence!

Silence day for me tomorrow too! I shall settle down to do my job application, and maybe fit in a swatch for the KAL, while @spamm awaits her wool and @PlinkPlink her needles! Today I went for a tour of the school I'm applying to, and quite liked the look of it (hard to tell with no kids there though Grin).

lucysmam · 11/03/2021 06:42

@CrochetBug is the closest I could find to do the stitches behind the first two.

I'm going to frog it today & carry on with the others for now. I'll message the person on etsy again in the meantime :)
