lazy I’m 5’4” so my CAL was longer than me some time ago. But being a short arse I’m used to things generally being taller than me Grin What’s impressive is that 6’2” DH had to hold my CAL up to his eyes to stop it draping on the ground when I showed my mum.

myshitisreal actually I think that is what I was thinking. I either need bright coloured buttons to match the wool or I need something plain that won’t take away from the colours but not a black, brown, grey or white (which doesn’t leave much in the way of plain Grin) as I don’t think they’ll compliment and just be a bit too neutral.

auntlucy it’s better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission Grin or just pretend they were always part of your stash. I’m making some stuff for a care home and DH was on the call when I said I’d need more wool, so he couldn’t argue, plus he can’t argue when I’m doing it for a good cause. But then I snuck a few little other bits in Blush

Thanks Flavia, that's what I thought on re-reading it. Thankfully, just the one row to frog 🤣 I will get it!

sophs29 · 08/03/2021 09:53

@AuntLucy welcome Grin what a colourful little collection! do you have any ideas what you'll be using them for or is it just because they were too pretty to resist? Grin

AuntLucy · 08/03/2021 10:21

@sophs29 A bit of both - I have a new baby myself so for the next year I can do plenty of stash-busting 100g cardigans for her, plus a friend is pregnant so I thought I'd whip up a rainbow blanket for her - nice easy knitting for when you have a baby sleeping on you and are too tired to follow a pattern 🙂

sophs29 · 08/03/2021 10:31

Oh how lovely @AuntLucy my DS is a little over 4 months now so the lovely sleepy stage has gone haha! those colours would be brilliant for a rainbow blanket!

AuntLucy · 08/03/2021 10:32

@InTheNightWeWillWish my favourite alpaca yarn dropped to £6/skein on Amazon last night which is 70% off, and in SUCH a pretty blue, and only 5 skeins left. So I had to order them. No project in mind yet, but I do so enjoy going out to the barn and sorting through my yarns and rediscovering some spontaneous purchase which is just the thing for a new project, so I'm sure I won't regret it.

lucysmam · 08/03/2021 16:35

I'm not entirely convinced about this pattern - there's a cluster of 5 stitches where each cable section is, that seems really very obvious & the cables aren't seeming to stand out much at all.

You can't see very well on my pic but I've marked where I mean with little pins.

I've messaged the etsy seller again 🙄 hopefully they might be able to work out where on Earth I'm going wrong with it

@AuntLucy you have a yarn barn? Jealous much. I only have a cupboard. Welcome. I wish I had a baby to snuggle.

@lucysmam what pattern are you using? It sounds infuriating.

I'm feeling particularly bhshsbhdjjejenhd today. I've only just actually got up. I've got a headache and am grouchy as hell. Crochet and chill for a bit I think.

My CAL is bigger than me with my arms up above my head. If I stand on tiptoes it still hits the floor. But I'm only 5ft1 Grin

lucysmam · 08/03/2021 18:14

@CrochetBug this one it's driving me nuts but I'm not sure if it's me or the pattern itself tbh 🤷‍♀️

I'd get up & snap a pic of it, but I cba to move 🤣

lucysmam · 08/03/2021 18:18

But I can screenshot on my phone!

I'm using the L/XL version

I'll try and have a go at it if my headache passes and see how I get on. :) its a lovely cardigan! I can see why you wanted to make it!

CrochetBug · 08/03/2021 18:28

Is there instructions for how to do the twisted cable stitches?

lucysmam · 08/03/2021 18:40

I had to youtube how to do it -you do the first two fptc in the last two front posts, then go back to do the first one, it passes behind the two you've just done & through the big hole they create to get back to the first front post. I wondered whether not doing them behind might be better maybe. That seemed like extra work to get pretty much the same result to me.

lucysmam · 08/03/2021 18:49

Maybe my eleventy billion three messages, so far, to the person on etsy has sent her back to revisit it - she's going to send me an updated copy of it so I shall frog riiiiiight the way back to my foundation row later on & try again with that.

CrochetBug · 08/03/2021 19:10

Hopefully that solves it! I can't work out how to do the cable bits at all, sorry. Google didn't help as every hit was different so didn't match up to the pattern Confused

lucysmam · 08/03/2021 19:42

Ok; I have an updated pattern, I had a realisation in the shower that the cables should be worked 4 3 2 1, instead of 3 4 1 2, and I have a foundation row...what could possibly go wrong 🤣🤣🤞

CrochetBug · 08/03/2021 19:45

Good luck!

CrochetBug · 08/03/2021 20:57

I don't know when we are starting the KAL, but I'm practising before my mum comes over tomorrow so she can check out my lack of skills Grin
So far I've cast on 20 (only 10 at the point I took the photo). I assume its right. It looks right. Wink

Ive got the wool fir the KAl, but got about 6 inches of my cat blanket to finish first

lazylinguist · 08/03/2021 21:17

Who's still waiting for KAL yarn? I'm still plodding on with my extended CAL, but am happy to start the KAL as soon as everyone is ready!

lucysmam · 08/03/2021 22:00

Well, I am still not convinced at all - I'm not seeing how the repeated row of sc won't just end up as lines across the whole thing.

I'm half way through the row before that so we'll find out in the morning maybe.

tizwozliz · 09/03/2021 08:59

I'm go going to skip the knit along this time, going to get some needles and try and learn but resisting jumping straight into it. Now the weather's improving I need to find some time for gardening as well as sitting on the sofa.

I've got plenty of hexagons to make for my temperature blanket anyway as well as various other bits on the go. I think I've decided on the colour ranges now and plotted the first 67 days.

lazylinguist · 09/03/2021 10:30

I love the idea of a temperature blanket @tizwozliz, and am supposedly very slowly making enough crochet squares for a blanket), but the idea of sewing them all together absolutely does my head in!

@lazylinguist

I think an octopus will look fab in those colours! My KAL wool just arrived. Oof - it's a big ball!
I was shocked how big it was. Is that Glencoe?
Jennyz123 · 09/03/2021 12:31

Ah thanks for the welcome @CrochetBug! Yarn everywhere, drinks and biscuits- I knew I'd found the right place! 🙂 I've had a look on Ravelry as suggested by a PP, it's fantastic. I've now ordered some circular needles as I think I need to bite the bullet and get used to knitting in the round if I'm going to progress much further. Very nervous- wish me luck!
