Hello everyone! I’ve just finished another jumper, for my mum this time. Now to decide what to do next! Might do some more baby clothes because they’re nice and quick.

Knit, Crochet and Natter 3: Is it really still January?!

Help please. I am feeling very stupid with this pattern. Its a jumper. Working on shoulder shaping. I hate steps and have seen on Youtube demonstrations of how to avoid this with short row shaping. They make it look easy to convert pattern but I can't seem to get it. The demos only show a small sample ie one shoulder. I can't get how to convert a pattern that would be the whole shoulder. Confused

Would appreciate if anyone can help, if you've tried this?

harribot · 31/01/2021 16:30

@Myshitisreal

Sending hugs to all and welcome to the newbies.

Cat bed 2 completed for my brother. Little pocket with a catnip pouch added, not sure if the photos are in the order I would like ffs

This is such a lovely idea! How do you make this? Is it a circle that you have turned the sides on? Did you crochet or knit? I would like to make one for my dog. Did your cat like it?
Myshitisreal · 31/01/2021 16:39

@kate105 get out of town!!! That is ridiculously beautiful 😍

CrochetBug · 31/01/2021 16:52

Oh that jumper is stunning!!! I really need to play around with the sizing on jumpers so I can make some for me.

Myshitisreal · 31/01/2021 16:56

@harribot

It's incredibly easy.

You crochet a circle the size you want the bottom to be. The first bed I did in all uk dc. The second was mostly half trebles.

For this one, I made a circle 18 inches in diameter using 3 strands. I made it this size to suit my brothers big kitty but whatever size you want.

Then you do a row of back loop only to create a hinge, and stop the increases and just make it a continuous tube. I did this until the side was around 7 inches. You then fold the side over over to meet the other half of that stitch and do about 10-15 slip stitches, then I stuffed it with cut material. Do more stitches, stuff etc until you finish.

I added a catnip pocket to this one too. I've some pictures and a YouTube link I followed.

Here are pictures

there's a pic in here of it being joined imgur.com/a/uHcDwSE
Ziva lay in it as i was stitching it ♥

I preferred the stitch side down but when you get to the hinge part just look at both sides and decide which you want facing up. It's really incredibly easy. I'll be here if you need help. The cats loved it .

this little trick helped me make a ball of wool of all my scraps hence the colour changes. No ends to sew in, amazing!!!

It's so lovely coming back to this thread regularly. There are always such lovely projects to look at and feel inspired by! Kate105 that jumper is fantastic!

Lovely snow, spamm. 8 inches forecast?! Shock We never get that much, being close to the coast, but there's always more on the fells. It's nice to be able to see it from a distance even when we can't go. We did a 3hr hilly walk today from home - I'm a bit tired now!

I set myself the challenge of learning to crochet this weekend and I am pleased to report that I have nearly finished a WHOLE granny square! Grin I am in awe of the wonderful work you are all making.

lazylinguist · 31/01/2021 18:23

Excellent work, @tinselvestsparklepants - keep it up and you'll soon have a blanket!

OP posts:
lucysmam · 31/01/2021 19:14

Well done @tinselvestsparklepants! The world is now your (crochet) oyster!

What will you make first?

spamm the snow looks lovely. We have some forecast but I suspect it'll more likely rain & we'll have to have wet playtime at work :(

lucysmam · 31/01/2021 20:41

Oooh, crochet mandalas are going to feature on my "must try it" list! You all have lists as long as you are tall, right!? Grin

I only came across them looking for blanket inspo for dd2 but they're talking to me...

Nervousdave · 31/01/2021 21:14

Sorry to hear that @CrochetBug 😔
I havent had a chance to read through both previous threads but I've flicked...
Its amazing seeing everyone's projects! And the socks! I cannot figure out circular needles for the life of me (do you guys cut the long bit to size for every project?!)

lazylinguist · 31/01/2021 21:32

I cannot figure out circular needles for the life of me (do you guys cut the long bit to size for every project?!)

No, you can't do that! You can either buy a set of interchangeable circular needles, which comes with different needle sizes and cable lengths which attach to each other,or you can just buy separate ones of the different size/length you need for a particular project.

I'm having trouble with the bobble row of the CAL. Angry I'm at the last few stitches and the count isn't right. I think I might have to undo the whole row, darn it.

OP posts:
InTheNightWeWillWish · 31/01/2021 21:34

Easter eggs and bobbles of part two done. I’ve got 3 neutral colours in my colour chart and all three have occurred over the last two rows of Easter eggs and all of bobbles. Very slight difference in colours but it does mean the bobbles don’t really stand out. The rest of part two has no neutrals so colour wise, I’m hoping it should balance out but I’m wondering if it’s too big of a neutral block in an otherwise chaotic blanket.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 31/01/2021 21:37

@lazylinguist I also had a lot of trouble with bobbles and had to undo it and start again. Bobbles has probably been my least favourite section so far.

CrochetBug · 31/01/2021 21:43

I missed a stitch on the row below the bobbles (I think it was that section). I could have bodged it but it annoyed me so I ended up frogging and redoing.

Oh and tip, if you are using your colours in the order of the pattern, don't cut the yarn on the... (erm... am in the bath and can't remember which bit...) the section before the victory puffs I think. Each colour is in 2 row blocks so you can just carry it up, less ends to sew in. I didnt realise that until it was too late Hmm

@InTheNightWeWillWish, although I used random balls from my stash I did map out which colours went where and when to make sure I didn't end up with all the blues together, or any clashing sections. I am a bit anal about those kind of things though. Its my inner Virgo. Or it would be if I believed it all that stuff Wink. Anyway. I think yours looks great. I love the colour of your first row of easter eggs. Smile

lazylinguist · 31/01/2021 21:53

It's funny - I quite liked doing the bobbles on my previous blanket. I don't know what went wrong this time. Anyway, I've just frogged it and am starting the bobble row again. I hope it wasn't a mistake on the previous row! I blame the fact that I was (re-)watching Sherlock at the same time. Grin.

OP posts:
InTheNightWeWillWish · 31/01/2021 22:05

@CrochetBug I did map them out and was mostly happy with where the colours lay. However, I think some of it is I forgot that colours also look different depending on the colour they are next to. So the balls themselves, I can put them next to each other and see the difference in the shades but in the actual blanket, it loses it a bit Confused I’m half debating undoing the last two rows and doing the bobbles in a mustard. But the bobbles were a pain and the next two sections the colours are fine and should balance the neutrals really well (dusky pink, slightly darker green than the Easter eggs, turquoise, finishing larking around on the dusky pink before back to turquoise, purple, light green and blue). I’m going to see how I feel tomorrow. Although I did debate the mustard before I did the bobbles and DH talked me out of it. So there might be a lesson here to not listen to Dh on these matters Grin

CrochetBug · 31/01/2021 22:08

Ah ok. That's a pain then. I had a couple of rows that I wasn't sure about, but once I done the next bit they looked fine.
I hope it didn't come across as "oooh. I did this, why didn't you?" Blush I have a habit of typing as I think and forgetting that the written word doesn't always come across the same way! If I did, then I apologise!
Definitely ignore DH. I would if I had one

InTheNightWeWillWish · 31/01/2021 22:16

@CrochetBug not at all Grin I’m quite glad someone else seems to be as anal as me. I’m mostly annoyed because despite mapping it out, this wasn’t one of the areas that I had concerns about. And because I listened to DH Hmm

lazylinguist · 31/01/2021 22:40

Your bobbles stand out more than mine, @InTheNightWeWillWish! Mine are grey on grey Grin. I think your blanket is looking great!

Evening, thanks for the feedback. I got to row 3 (10 rows) of the grannies in Part one before admitting defeat. My blanket was rainbow shaped Grin

Cba to frog it all just in case it could be salvaged so I kept it and started a new one. This time I used a 6 hook for the chain and gauged the length of 3 chains against each tr from the last row of my first attempt of the blanket. (When I was at my loosest.) Then used a 5 hook for each row after that. It seemed to work. My starting chain was quite a bit longer than my first go and each row since has stayed nice and even in tension. I guess I’ll always have this problem when I take a break between similar crochet projects and forget what to do.

Always start out tight and end up loose. In life as in crochet... Grin Grin Hmm

KnitWitHurlOne · 31/01/2021 23:29

lucysmam yes I have a list! In fact I have also collected a list of jumper links since you posted about your fave coming to its end. Do you ever get the feeling Pinterest etc is spying on you? I didn’t search or mention jumpers, yet the minute I read your post patterns started popping up all over the place. They’re probably not what you’re after but will post just in case.

I’ve managed to make it as far as Lattice stripes (row 13) from part one today. Not helped by constant interruptions from the dogs all day. We’ve had quite large snowflakes today - none settled - but enough to make the dogs act like complete bellends. Ddog 2 in particular is like a kid at Christmas. I seem to spend half of my days cleaning the muppets up at this time of year, between walks and garden visits. I’m not sure at this point which I prefer... kids or dogs. Dogs can’t talk so there’s that. But my trigger happy, yappy ddog 1 and hyper, dopey, messy ddog 2 make me appreciate the (so far) largely peaceful and self sufficient teen dc years. Wouldn’t swap them for the world though obvs. Little shits Grin

petridishmystery · 01/02/2021 00:21

Loving seeing the progress on the CALs! Sharing my stuff makes me feel a bit like a six year old toddling up to her parents with some scribbles to go on the fridge lol. I finished my sock, made a few mistakes and it turned out a lot bigger than i was expecting so I’ve bought a smaller loom, but it looks more sock-like than any other sock I’ve made, to the point where I’m actually bothering to make the second one.

After being basically back to normal where I live since July, with the exception of travel restrictions, we are now a week back into full lockdown so I guess at least I’ll soon have some comfy socks to wear around the house!

@KnitWitHurlOne - same here with the pets and teens! The dog requires a lot more attention and clearing up than the children these days. It's so wet here a lot of the time that I seem to spend my life dealing with mud. Even the cat leaves little muddy footprints everywhere.

Glad you've achieved sock success, @petridishmystery - it looks great!
