I don't even know why I bought it. I think it must have been on offer, I wouldn't have bought so much of it otherwise Confused

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 29/01/2021 22:15

Grin at least it's pretty when it's not tangled! I bought 6 balls of a hideous dark purpley-blue colour in a sale and the postage cost of sending it back meant I was as well to keep it 😫

tizwozliz · 29/01/2021 22:18

I thought Murray deserved a fish :-)

Oh, that is too cute! Smile

lazylinguist · 29/01/2021 22:43

Thanks for the heads-up about the Jennifer Steingass discount code, Flavia! I definitely want to make the Goldwing jumper. In fact I've just idly been looking at wool for it. I fancy using Cascade 220. Anyone used that before? It seems to be a fairly popular choice for that pattern. Malabrigo Rios even more popular, but it's about £10.50 per ball!

tiz Murray is so cute and I love his little fish! I’m actually really jealous that I can only do flat things at the moment. Clearly I need to improve my skills so I can make myself a Murray. I’m going to say it, even at risk of being flamed, but I think he’s actually the cutest character you’ve made so far 😬

givemebooks · 30/01/2021 09:32

Morning all! I am feeling quite ill this morning so not sure how much of the CAL I will get done! Even if any but I just had a quick read and seems Ihave some new stitches to learn for this part so feel excited about it!

@tizwozliz Murray is just amazing! What a character and how cute with his fish! This group could do with a mascot and I vote for Murray! Ha!!

Trying to get my projects updated on Ravelry today. I always mean to do it as I go along but it never happens. It's a shame as sometimes I could really use finding out what yarn/colour I've actually used for a partially completed project when I find it months later, especially if it's something I've given up on because I've run out of yarn and need to order more!

Also wondering if I could ask for colour suggestions, I've been asked to make another duck. I don't have the colours right now to do an identical but recipient is happy to let me choose. Any suggestions - I have yellow for the beak and feet, and terracotta and white, but no blue or aqua right now.

How have I missed three incarnations of a knitting thread???

I'm a yarn addict and feel no shame about it. Always have something on the needles. Yesterday started a new project to use up some (very ugly) yarn I got in a luck dip. It's a liberating pattern as it's supposed to be random... cable to the left or right as you like, the idea is meandering rivers... love something I can do without slavishly following charts and patterns.

Welcome RaspberryCoulis - glad you found us!

tizwozliz - I've been thinking about your duck colours. White might be nice for the face, but I'm guessing you'd want to change the colour of the hat.

I'm busily trying to finish at least the main body of the multicoloured Among Us crewmate today. I got nanna to pick up a second ball of the yarn from Poundland the other day but am not entirely sure I'll need it...so now I need to think of something equally as bright to make with it Grin

She picked up two more of the softer coloured ones too (3 for £2 so why not!). I now have 16 of those in total & dd2 has bagsied it for a blanket! Nanna was offering tips on sewing granny squares together but I fancy something else, just not sure what yet.

Goodness everyone’s been busy! I just thought I’d make a small start on my Jennifer Steingass pattern before finishing off a pair of socks. Somehow I’ve almost knitted the whole of the body Smile

KnitWitHurlOne · 30/01/2021 13:38

Thanks for the welcome(s) Brew

Typically I was awake til gone 3a.m after posting, so that’ll teach me for speaking too soon! Though I was mostly staring at the ceiling so maybe I should’ve stuck to the thread. Bloody hormones! Angry

I have now begun the CAL . I’ve just finished row 1 and reading row 2 instructions. My face is mostly doing this Confused It’s been so long since I followed a non amigurumi pattern that I’ve forgotten most of the lingo. Also remembering how varied patterns are! The difference between UK/US and also that every pattern I’ve used has explained things in a different way. So think it may be slow going while I google my way through it all.

I’ve decided to wing it colours wise. I’m thinking pale colours. Maybe only two. I’m starting with this pink and beige/cream and will see how it goes.

KnitWitHurlOne · 30/01/2021 13:47

Loving all the pattern shares and seeing everyone’s creations. Loads of talent on these threads. I can’t wait to try some new things and consult you all for help. I’ve never tried cabling or knitting with colour patterns.

Still waiting for my light to turn up but I’m set up in my corner and not moving except for loo and refreshments for rest of day. Should stop procrastinating and try to get started on row 2 I guess Grin

CrochetBug · 30/01/2021 14:17

Welcome @KnitWitHurlOne. Yes do get on with it. Procrastinating will get you no where.

I had a bad day and night yesterday but have finally pulled myself together and am on part 2 row 2.

KnitWitHurlOne · 30/01/2021 14:32

Well my tension is... Confused

Did I read earlier in threads people* saying they started patterns with one size hook and then went down or up? I had to start my CAL with a size 5 to get the tension right but now on row 2 I’m so much looser and have to keep frogging it. I don’t know whether to start again completely or not? Don’t make me

I think I’m a repeat offender at this. Always too tight with start chain. I tried the Attic24 cosy blanket years still a WIP ago and had to frog off the first few rows in the end because my blanket was curved. Managed to keep the rest of it intact but don’t know whether to do that with this or try to rectify it early on.
Anyone have any tips on how to start and maintain tension as you get into a project. When I try to loosen deliberately on chain it always looks so messy and uneven. I think I prefer working in the looser way, rather than the tighter way I start.

KnitWitHurlOne · 30/01/2021 14:33

Thanks Cochet hope you’re ok Flowers

KnitWitHurlOne · 30/01/2021 14:36

Sorry if my pp makes no sense! I’m trying a 4 hook now. I’m going to finish the row and see if I can stretch row 1 into submission Grin

CrochetBug · 30/01/2021 15:03

@KnitWitHurlOne I know lots of people who do their starting chain with a bigger hook. So if the yarn asks for a 4mm, do the chain with a 5mm. Then go back to the 4mm for the rest of it.

lazylinguist · 30/01/2021 15:44

@NiceCardigan Shock sounds like you're speeding ahead! Which Jennifer Steingass pattern is it, and can we see a pic of your progress so far?

Wrt hook size, I think my starting chains are ok, but with the CAL I didn't see the suggestion of going down a hook size for the Grannies, and that section is definitely a bit bulkier and wider.

First part of Easter eggs done! I can't wait to get onto the bobbles, they're my favourite crochet stitch I think!

lucysmam · 30/01/2021 16:09

@KnitWitHurlOne I do my starting chains with a bigger hook -I find it easier to do the first row that way.

@sophs29 that looks lovely. Really nice colour choices.

The crewmate is done; backpack, helmet & balloon still in progress but it's time to make tea with dd2 (wish me luck, she talks at 100mph Grin )

sophs29 · 30/01/2021 16:15

Thank you @lucysmam
That's my fav one you've done so far! Love those colours! Was that yarn from Poundland did you say?

lucysmam · 30/01/2021 16:24

Yep, 3 50g balls for £2. It says dk but seems finer to me & even dd1 commented earlier that it doesn't look the same as the pale rainbow stuff.

I've attached a pic of it's sleeve so you can see

I'm in the middle of the Easter Eggs now. @lucysmam - I love that colourful Among Us character- that yarn looks great!
