@givemebooks well done!! It's brilliant!
I'm not even on the final granny section yet, my DS2 had his 4 month jabs today 😣 so no chance of any crochet!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 01/03/2021 21:33

I have so much to catch up on! I love the monochrome version and yours is so lovely and bright and cheerful givemebooks

Cushions aren't my thing but I'll watch the KAL with enjoyment! I'll be interested to see how different your projects all look with different yarns and colours.

Ouch sophs, hope he settles for you Cake

lazylinguist · 01/03/2021 21:34

Yayyy @givemebooks! Your blanket looks fantastic!
@InTheNightWeWillWish - I'm jealous - I really want need a craft cupboard!

So far on the KAL:

@lazylinguist
@PlinkPlink
@CrochetBug
@bruffin

and... @tizwozliz are you sufficiently tempted?

Awww @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack - I feel bad that we're not doing the cowl now, if you're not keen on cushions Sad. Still, a cushion cover shouldn't take too long - maybe we can do the cowl afterwards. I really like it and I've always fancied using Malabrigo yarn, which is what was used in the original.

Thanks everyone! And @sophs29 hope your little one has a settled night, bless xx

I will be watching the KAL with interest! I just don't have the coordination for knitting but those cushions look lovely!!

Wish I had a craft cupboard or space!! My CAL wool warehouse bag has become my crafting stuff home for now!!

lazylinguist · 01/03/2021 21:54

The cupboard under the stairs in my house would make a perfect craft cupboard, but unfortunately it's full of other things. I'm not sure where else I could use. Oh actually... there's a sideboard in the hall that has some space in it!

Don’t worry about it, I’ll participate by offering unasked for opinions and advice GrinWink besides, I’ve just ordered about 1kg of fibre for spinning thanks to my lovely SIL giving me a voucher for Christmas so I should probably spin that before the DC go feral and start making nests out of it or something.

Buntyforgirls · 01/03/2021 22:07

I’m interested in KAL, but wondering how complicated the pattern will be- am a beginner/improver knitter- any advice, please? Is that cable??

lazylinguist · 01/03/2021 22:17

Yes @Buntyforgirls - all 4 of the cushion patterns involve some cable. Cable isn't complicated imo. The only difficulty about it really is keeping your tension right. It's easy to make the cable bits too tight, but once you've got the hang of that it's fine! One of the cushions only has a column of cable down one side - that's probably the easiest one.

The cupboard under the stairs in my house would make a perfect craft cupboard, but unfortunately it's full of other things.

The only reason mine isn’t full of other things is because the cupboard under the stairs is a recent addition (don’t ask why I didn’t twig that the house had no cupboard under the stairs and just dead space when we viewed the house because I really don’t know). It’s original purpose was because I wanted to hide the ironing board and hoover but I’ve now moved my wool, bags and paint supplies in there so it’s officially now my craft (and bag) cupboard. As an added bonus I have the ironing board and hoover Grin

I really do like the cushion covers for the KAL. I might have to send the link to my mum with a ‘hint hint Wink’. Then casually follow up with a ‘ooo this yarn would look as a cushion with my sofa/in our bedroom...’ Grin

eitak22 · 01/03/2021 22:51

Will be watching the KAL with interest as someone who can't knit I'm convinced you're all magicians.

Undid my braided cowl as the wool was too busy so going to do a v stitch cowl with it, nice and simple and should show colours of the wool off.

spamm · 02/03/2021 03:16

Sorry I have been missing in action. We are in quarantine due to my DS having an exposure at American football practice, and work is just crazy as well.

Everyone's CALs look wonderful. It is amazing how different they look with the different color schemes.

I am definitely in for the KAL. Happy to do anyone of the 3 projects. And I can confirm that cable is not as hard as it looks - one of my early projects had loads of cable and I learnt to do it very quickly.

I started another WIP - @lazylinguist, I am about half way through that cowl and it is easy tv knitting.

Thank you @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack and @givemebooks he slept well and is happy this morning! Hoping to get crocheting again this evening!

givemebooks · 02/03/2021 10:14

Morning all! So after an evening of thinking of what my next project would be and sat looking at all the left over wool from the CAL I found the 2nd blanket add on pattern for the CAL known as carols blanket and decided to make another blanket!!

Have sat this morning and weighed my left over yarn to see if there was enough and i should be good to go!

In the extra pattern it said they bought an extra of yarn a but i think i will just use what ever i have the most of!

So here we go again!! :)

Thank you *@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack and @givemebooks* he slept well and is happy this morning! Hoping to get crocheting again this evening!
So pleased he did @sophs29 I remember the jabs age well, so harsh on the little ones and can throw them right out of there routines!! But all worth it in the end x
Buntyforgirls · 02/03/2021 10:43

Can I join in with a cushion cover of my choice, one that is more suited to my ability??
Have found this www.lovecrafts.com/en-gb/p/rainbow-pillow-cover-in-3-sizes-knitting-pattern-by-ladyshipdesigns
and love it!
Thinking of using spring colours inspired by style craft attic 24 palettes- love the current sweet pea colours in the current CAL.
Can I ?Can I ?( in the style of donkey- pick me pick me, ha!)

lazylinguist · 02/03/2021 11:35

Of course you can, @Buntyforgirls! In fact, it occurred to me that if any only-crocheters wanted to join in another 'Along', people could do a crochet cushion cover instead. Actually, I don't know why I didn't think of that when we first started discussing KALs and CALs - it would be very easy to just do an all-welcome CraftAlong by choosing an equivalent crochet and knitting project at the same time!

@Flavia - every time you mention spinning, I get a powerful desire to try it. Presumably it can't be very expensive to buy a drop spindle and a bit of fleece to have a bit of a go?

OP posts:
FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 02/03/2021 12:11

I got this drop spindle and a mixed box of British Breeds fibre from The Fibre Hut when I'd tried to spin Merino and failed. I think it's so much easier to learn with a woolly wool than a slippery one

Kate105 · 02/03/2021 12:22

Hi everyone sorry I’ve been quiet! Work is manic and I’ve not been feeling great so everything else has taken a back seat. I’m going to pass on the cushion KAL, not really my thing I’m afraid! But I’m still here and I’ll still be nosing away at what all of you lovely lot are making! I’ve been so impressed by the CAL blankets! They’ve been so quick!

lazylinguist · 02/03/2021 12:50

I had just found my way to the Fibrehut website when I read your last post and was planning on getting a kit or asking for one for my birthday! I looked at the Merino and thought how lovely and soft it looked. Grin Will definitely go for a more woolly one on your advice. I should probably choose Herdwick, as it's a very popular breed here in Cumbria.

Don't worry about throwing the sock across the room @NiceCardigan I've done that too - who hasn't? My patterns are nowhere near as complicated as yours. I'm coming up to the home straight on the second sock of a lacy herringbone pattern and I'll try to send a pic when it's done. Anyone else getting a painful bicep?

lucysmam · 02/03/2021 14:09

Hmm, I've been sorting my wardrobe by doing the "turn hangers the other way so you can see what you're wearing" thing & there are two jumpers I haven't worn in forever but have kept for a couple of years now because they sparkle Blush. I'm going to have a google and see how easy it might be to frog them (I may already have something pinned for one of them Grin )

CrochetBug · 02/03/2021 16:06

@lucysmam what's the "turn hangers the other way so you can see what you're wearing" thing? I've never heard of it and am trying to work out what difference turning my hangers round would make?

lucysmam · 02/03/2021 16:08

@CrochetBug turn them the opposite way to how they'd normally be then, as you wear & wash things, put them back the right way round. Turns out I wear about 6 of the tops I have in there & my ratty not suitable for work jumper 🤷‍♀️ the rest just sit there.
