Well I've finished Part 5 of the CAL and started again at Part 1. Oof!

@lucysmam oh thank you for the tips!
I have little ice pop bag things you make yourself so going to do that with DS1 one day and he hates his hands being cold or sticky so this would be great! I also like the idea of making different ones for when my niece & nephew are finally allowed round!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 28/02/2021 07:50

Good luck lazy hopefully you end up in counting corner less this time round!

lucysmam · 28/02/2021 08:34

I'm hoping someone more experienced will be able to help, before I place my Deramores order for both yarns I wanted

If I were to double up black dk, to make it similar to aran, weight wise, would I need 2 balls (in which case I may as well order the aran) or could I pull from both ends? Or is there a trick I'm missing?

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 28/02/2021 09:01

lucysmam You can use kitchen scales to split the ball, you find the end from the middle and wind it while the ball sits on the scales. It's much easier than wrestling with two ends at once. It'll mean you have two shorter lots of leftovers but if you want to join them you can use a Russian join and it's pretty much invisible, especially in black.

lucysmam · 28/02/2021 09:20

Brilliant, thanks very much Flavia, I'll do that then since I have a full ball of the black dk with no plans for it. How's your jumper going?

I found a discount code for Deramores too, if anyone's ordering from there. NOW10 gives 10% off at the checkout :)

Sooo... anyone got any views about a KAL? Who would like to do one, and does anyone have any pattern suggestions to add other than the Versa Cowl?

PlinkPlink · 28/02/2021 10:44

I wanna do one!!! I wanna do one!!!!!!! Grin

I'll have a look around today and see what suggestions I can come up with...

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 28/02/2021 10:54

My jumper is going well thanks! I was going to do a hood then looked at the pattern picture and the instructions and went meh, can't be bothered Grin

I bought the DC a pogo stick that's arriving today so I'll either get loads of knitting done or none...

lucysmam · 28/02/2021 11:08

Ooh, we used to have pogo sticks, and those circular plastic discs with a ball in the middle, I loved them!

Before I press go on my order, do any of you use Knit Pro hooks? I'm considering ordering the sizes for the cardi to try them.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 28/02/2021 11:49

Might be a bit late, but I got a set of knitpro knockoffs from Amazon I find way more comfy than the actual knitpro ones. If I can find it in my organised chaos and you need a 6mm I could post you the one I have if you'd like, I don't use it at all. I only bought it to see if it was more comfy than the knock-offs once I'd crocheted for a bit.

lucysmam · 28/02/2021 12:19

I haven't ordered yet, Flavia, my friend who takes in my parcels hasn't answered yet about sending it there & it seems wrong to just do it - even though I know the answer 🤣 If you're sure you won't use it, it was a 6 & a 4mm that I was going to order to try so I'd appreciate it :)

10 out of 10 for enthusiasm, @PlinkPlink! Grin

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 28/02/2021 12:40

No bother, I just found it! If you PM me your address, I'll get it posted.

CrochetBug · 28/02/2021 13:04

I'm hoping to join the KAL but as I can't knit I'll leave it to to others to decide on a pattern. Then I'll try and join in.

lucysmam · 28/02/2021 13:56

Thank you, I'll pm you in a mo.

I've just finished the second ice pop holder for my colleague. It's pretty in the rainbow yarn

Impressive that you're willing to leap into a KAL as a total knitting newbie, @CrochetBug! I think knitting will always be my fave, even though I've really enjoyed doing lots of crochet over the past year.

I figure there's only one way to learn, and that's to do!

Well I've finished testing different methods to eliminate the turning chain. Some I've seen online and some I thought up myself. I think the orange, yellow and blue are best (in that order)
The pale purple looks ok, but was fiddly as hell. Hopefully you can read (and understand) my scribbled notes.

Very true!

Here is a picture of my 'finished but another whole blanket's length to go' CAL Grin. I'm really pleased with how the different stitches stand out even though each section is in a single colour. As you can see, I still haven't sewn in a single end. Blush

I'm up for a KAL but be warned I'll be asking how to do everything - my granny taught me to knit and purl. I've made up everything else since then with mixed results!

MutteringDarkly · 28/02/2021 16:34

I meant to say I love seeing all the CAL results - all gorgeous, all so different.

tizwozliz · 28/02/2021 16:37

I love the two colour blanket, it shows off the stitches so nicely.

Has anyone done a wool warehouse order recently? How long have they been taking, I'm impatient!

CrochetBug · 28/02/2021 16:41

@lazylinguist I love the 2 colour look. Its classy.

@tizwozliz mine took about 5 days i think. Maybe a week max but it wasn't long.
