I downloaded the couch to 5k app if that counts for anything? I also downloaded the food app that goes with it. There's some really tasty recipes!

Anyway... tomorrow Grin

My hands are aching from too much fiddly amigurumi so after I'm picking up my woodland ripple blanket again (was reminded how nice it is by the cushions up thread) It's good to do something that requires next to no thinking and no counting above 6

I tried the Zombies Run app initially but I've come to terms with being a massive wuss
when I run in the dark and switched to the NHS one instead, there's too many trees and shadows on my route Grin I didn't realise there was a recipe one CrochetBug, I'm off to get that!

I did a few rounds on my sleeve and I like the stitch size with 5.5mms though I think I'm going to have to rip it out to pick up fewer stiches.

That's a lovely colour scheme Tiz!

Hope you have a working washing machine by now Lazy!

lazylinguist · 15/02/2021 18:42

Nope. R.I.P. washing machine. New one ordered. What a boring thing to have to unexpectedly spend money on! Hey ho.

Still haven't done any crochet, due to extensive washing machine research. Going to now though.

Dh is making a (loosely) Scottish dinner. As we were a bit bored, we randomly decided to have a Six Nations themed week of dinners (well, days Grin) because of the rugby. Tonight is venison steaks with neeps and tatties, followed by cranachan.

Our freezer broke down in lockdown 1, our washing machine broke down in lockdown 2 so keeping fingers crossed we escape lockdown 3 without having to buy a new appliance!

lazylinguist · 15/02/2021 19:18

Shock That's pants! It's so expensive to get things repaired that it's often not worth it.

@tizwozliz
That's lovely. I made a woodland blanket the same as you which inspired my friend to ask to me make her the cushion cover

lucysmam · 15/02/2021 20:28

I'm tired just thinking about going for a run. It's most definitely not my preferred form of exercise!

lazy we had to replace our washer not long ago; they don't seem to last long at all.

I'm just deciding between more bear or more blanket. I've hurt the bottom knuckle of my right thumb trying to tighten up our radiator valve to stop it dripping, so probably blanket since it's not so tight.

lucysmam · 15/02/2021 21:15

I'm not getting far...scroll of fb...couple of bricks...scroll of mn...couple of bricks...check on Errol...couple of bricks...chat to whichever dd has come for a chat. Maybe just the one row tonight then 🙄

I did see this cardi on a fb ad though that I rather like! Added to the rather impressive list I have going on 📝

lazylinguist · 16/02/2021 09:30

Ooh lovely socks, @NiceCardigan! I was back in the counting corner again last night. Did the whole of row 3 of Raised Lines on the CAL, turned it round and realised the second row of raised dtrs didn't line up with the first, as I'd failed to skip a stitch right at the beginning Hmm. Never mind eh. Grin

I'm kind of missing knitting atm! In theory I like having 2 projects on the go, often one knitting and one crochet, but I feel like I'd be going too slowly on the CAL if I were alternating with working on my cowl!

Oh my goodness! I have just spent a good couple of hours trying to add all of 6...6!!! transactions to my new Rainbows accounts spreadsheet. I get so far through & then get a very random pop up box that tells me to re-enter about seventy bazillion passwords (which, of course, I don't have). Then it tells me it can't export it when I finally manage to save it ffs! On the plus side, it all adds up properly but I'm going back to the old pack that didn't want passwords galore, tomorrow.

I'm going to do some more blanket this afternoon unless dd2 is feeling crafty. In which case, we'll craft first!

lazylinguist · 16/02/2021 17:38

I'm knackered! Just been for a very hilly 5 mile walk in the wind and blustery rain. I was already a bit achy from my run yesterday, so I'm a bit hobbly now! Definitely time to sit down and crochet, though I fear I may seize up and not be able to move again!

OP posts:
InTheNightWeWillWish · 16/02/2021 19:21

Tried to sit down to crochet after the dig walk and DH said we should do lego (we’ve spent some Christmas vouchers and bought a few Lego pieces). We’ve done part one of one set and now I’m going to try and crochet. Ignoring my CAL for now and trying to do my mum’s blanket as I’ve got about 5 weeks to finish it and I’m about 1/10 of the way through 😬 (and hopefully get through my CAL too).

lucysmam · 16/02/2021 19:52

We ended up making bath bombs & starting off some sugar crystals to grow this afternoon 🙄 I'm not sure dd's sugar solution is sugary enough as it seems to have just dissolved the sugar on her skewer, so am going to tinker when she's in bed so I don't get in trouble Grin

For now though, I'm going to crochet while everyone's busy doing their own thing.

lazylinguist · 16/02/2021 22:00

I've finished the first section of Part 4 - the Raised Lines. I liked that section!

OP posts:
sophs29 · 16/02/2021 22:04

Eurgh @lazylinguist I have two rows left of this section, but it's just dragging on again! doesn't help that my DP said "oh that's a good size for a baby blanket, aren't you finished yet?" So now I'm lacking even more motivation haha! I do love how it's looking though so that's one of the things that's keeping me going! I don't know how you all make blankets in all just one stitch! My attention span can't cope with just a couple of repeated rows 😂

lazylinguist · 16/02/2021 22:24

I'm painfully aware that I'm probably going to be carrying on with the blanket long after the rest of you have finished, as I'm going to do however many repeats I need to make it long enough for the double bed! I'm a bit baffled by how little yarn I'm using though - I'm only on my second 100g ball of each of my two colours! I must have bought way too much!

OP posts:
InTheNightWeWillWish · 16/02/2021 22:49

lazy I really like the raised lines. I’ve done front post and back post stitches before so I knew what I was doing on that one. And I didn’t need to look up the stitch again before starting. I’m 2/3 of the way through floral puffs, which I also really like. I love the texture of the puff stitch and I end up having a little squish of each puff as I work them Grin I worked on part 4 all weekend and got about halfway though, so this is another long section.

sophs29 · 17/02/2021 07:32

@lazylinguist yes I haven't used much yarn either! Still on my first ball of all the colours! I will definitely make my DS one but will have a break between them!

@InTheNightWeWillWish I'm looking forward to the floral puffs Smile

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/02/2021 08:04

Hello, everybody, I’m new to the thread but have been knitting like mad since the beginning of Lockdown One.

With a massive multicoloured stash to use up, I’m now making scarves and soft toys for Knit for Peace. I’m thinking of a ‘squares’ blanket, but I’ve never got the hang of crochet and don’t feel like starting now - does anyone know of a reasonably neat way to join multicoloured squares without? Would be grateful for suggestions.
I thought I might knit in strips so to speak, width of a square but obv. a lot longer.

Anyway, here’s the scarf and twin Teds I recently sent off to K for P. Have also made ‘rainbow babies’ from a (free!) Jean G pattern, since there was a request for black and brown faced dolls. Busy with another scarf and more rainbow babies now.,

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/02/2021 08:11

Meant to add, I’m full of admiration for all your socks!

lazylinguist · 17/02/2021 08:18

Lovely teddies, GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER! I made a knitted squares blanket a while back which required no joining of squares afterwards - you just knit in blocks of knit and purl and reverse the blocks on the next section to make a chequered effect. It's designed to be made in one colour, but there's no reason you couldn't just change colours - still easier than sewing squares together! Hang on - I'll see if I can find the pattern.

Morning, I have lurked on this board for many years and now I've also been lurking in this thread, makes me sound way creepier than I am! I have also been dabbling in crochet for years and have a very sizeable wool stash, which I get out every now and again.
My sister is having a baby in a few weeks and my mum and I want to make her a blanket. Like everything in our lives, we have left it quite late. My mum is a mean knitter, I haven't knitted for years but can probably manage. Is it crazy to try and make a blanket using squares of crochet and knitting together? Should I try to knit some squares, which are actually squares and don't have holes in?

lazylinguist · 17/02/2021 10:02

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER HERE is the squares blanket. Looks like some people have made it in different colour stripes and one has done alternate colour squares.

Hi DustyOwl! Did you mean use a mixture of knitted squares and crochet squares, or use crochet squares and knit them together? If you're after a really easy knitted blanket which comes together quite quickly, the one I just linked is really good. You only need to know how to knit and purl - that's it!
