Any ideas why my blanket is curving & going a bit like /\ even though my stitch counts are right? Confused

I'm hoping it sorts itself out when I eventually get to the border.

JPduck · 14/02/2021 13:19

@sophs29

Wow so many lovely things to catch up on! I'm still on stacked waves but the last row! I've just lost motivation for it but hopefully the next part is more enjoyable!

@JPduck that cushion is absolutely gorgeous! did you make the Pom poms? I ordered myself a new set of Pom Pom makers the other day, but mine never look that professional and dense if that makes sense Grin

Thanks @sophs29 I did make them myself. Must admit I did weigh the first one (in the Pom Pom maker) so they would all in theory be the same size. I did have to trim the odd strand so they were even.
lazylinguist · 14/02/2021 13:24

I have a pom pom maker and have never used it! Must make something with pom poms on .

Oh @JPduck that's a good idea! I love the look of it on the corners of the cushions!
I saw a pretty and subtle rainbow blanket that was mainly grey with coloured stripes every now and then and at the end of each coloured row was the matching coloured Pom Pom! It was lovely!

CrochetBug · 14/02/2021 17:26

@lucysmam sometimes that happens if your starting chain was too tight. Other than that I don't know.

I've got pom pom makers somewhere. We made a whole army of pompom snowmen once. And ds made loads of pompom sheep Confused

I'm back on my granny square as I shouldn't run out of yarn for that Grin

lucysmam · 14/02/2021 17:43

I used a 5mm hook for the starting chain then dropped to 4.5 for the rest too Confused. Sure it'll be fine!

CrochetBug · 14/02/2021 17:48

Oh no idea then :(
Hopefully it will straighten out!

lazylinguist · 14/02/2021 18:08

I’m back in counting corner. I seem to be missing a stitch on popcorns but the previous row is right and I can’t find the mistake. Urgh. Been trying to do this row all morning.

Oh no! It's the bobbles that get me - I seem to be fine on the popcorns! I've finally finished the Stacked Waves and am on the Lattice Stripe. Nearly at the end of Part 3!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 14/02/2021 18:47

I was fine for Popcorn 1 but popcorn 2 did not go well... Not to scare you Grin

I got to the end of popcorn now but I made DH double count my stitches to check I was right before moving on.

lazylinguist · 14/02/2021 19:02

I was briefly in counting corner just now, for two stupid and non-mysterious mistakes in the very simple first row of Lattice Stripe. Two trebles in each chain space - easy, right? Nope. I looked back and saw both a single treble and a triple treble. Hmm I haven't even had a glass of wine yet.

OP posts:
lazylinguist · 14/02/2021 19:11

Oh dear. Just finished the row, counted and found another mistake. It's actually because I missed a chain between stitches on the previous row, but I reckon I can bodge it without going back to the previous row, by just squeezing a pair of trebles into where the chain ought to be!

Well I think the dog approves of my CAL 🙄

Might have to find somewhere else to lay it out so I can see all of it, clearly the floor means it’s fair game!

I am so close to giving up on brioche sleeves. I've made so many stupid mistakes, I've got some kind of mental block on the second repeat. I may just resign myself to short sleeves in stocking stitch. Aargh!

lucysmam · 14/02/2021 21:02

It seems like everyone's at a frustrating point over these past few days :( maybe there's something in the air!

Have you ever had a "wtf! I've done the whole bloody thing in the wrong stitch!!" moment? I just have with this little bear for dd1. I hadn't but my brain just wasn't seeing what I was doing as right 🤯 Glad I checked youtube for a quick refresher before pulling it all right back!

lazylinguist · 14/02/2021 22:07

Phew, @lucysmam! Well, I've done the first row of Lattice Stripe now. Didn't get much done, because I was too busy watching Harry Potter (Order of the Phoenix)!

OP posts:
lazylinguist · 14/02/2021 22:50

I sped up a bit - Lattice Stripe and therefore Part 3 done. Woo hoo!

OP posts:
sophs29 · 15/02/2021 08:09

I've finished Part 3 too (does happy dance) Grin I was getting worried as I haven't really been counting as I go Blush but after reading everyone's comments I thought I better have a quick count, and luckily all the stitches were there Grin

CrochetBug · 15/02/2021 09:49

When will I learn not to crochet when I can't sleep. Spot the mistake Angry

lazylinguist · 15/02/2021 09:56

I'm not seeing it, CrochetBug, but then I don't have my glasses on and I'm really tired. About to go for a run Shock for the first time in ages. Well, probably a run-walk-run kind of thing. Hoping it perks me up a bit.

OP posts:
CrochetBug · 15/02/2021 10:01

I missed a block out on the corner. But of course didn't notice until I got back to the same place on the next round. So I need to undo a whole round to fix it.

A run? What kind of blasphemy is this! Goodness me. Grin

lazylinguist · 15/02/2021 10:11

Grin I used to run a lot. Very reluctantly at first, but eventually managed half marathon distances. I had to quit for ages due to little niggly injuries, but I miss it and periodically and gently, but probably foolishly, try to start again.

tizwozliz · 15/02/2021 10:23

I'm a reluctant runner right now, in the absence of other options.

Definitely something in the air. I frogged 10 rows of something as I thought I had the colour change wrong, redid it and it still looked wrong only to realize it's totally hidden once you sew the nose on. It wasn't a productive crochet weekend for me. I'd already started something and given up as it wasn't going right.

lazylinguist · 15/02/2021 11:22

Oh dear - lots of crafting niggles all round!

I feel great after my run! Going to do a bot of a post-run yoga stretch now, to ward off any stiffness. Smile Then some crochet!

I've ripped out and come up with a new plan I think. I'm going double up the mohair to use 2 strands and size 5 needles, which will work out roughly DK weight with the fluff. It may not work but it's cheaper than buying another skein of the 4ply so worth a go.

I started couch to 5k in a fit of desperation to get out of the house and get my head showered and I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying it after saying I would never run Grin I usually cycle but I'm a bit reluctant to do long rides in lockdown so C25K is filling a hole..

lazylinguist · 15/02/2021 15:36

I was very unfit and overweight and had really high bp when I first started running. I hated it at first and felt like I was going to die after about 300m. Grin

Fortunately these days I do quite a lot of walking (pretty fast to keep up with dh!), including lots of hills. So even when I haven't been running for ages I don't get too unfit.

I did 5.1k today, at a ratio of about 2 mins run to 30 seconds walk. When I try to get back into it I have to build back up very very slowly or something will go crunch, twang or ouch!

Still haven't done any crochet today- too mych faffing about! Dh is currently trying to fix the washing machine, which has not been working for a couple of days. Angry
