Well, I have now sorted the mistake on the set-up row of the bobbles section and re-done the row of actual bobbles, taking me nearly back to where I was about an hour ago! Time for a soothing cup of sleepy tea, and then I might do the last row of the bobbles section. I believe there is another bobbles section later on in the blanket. I am determined I'll get that one right first time!

Crochet is so much more stressful than knitting! You must have the patience of a saint lazy I'd be dancing round it's embers in the garden by now Shock I admire your persistence.

That is lovely givemebooks!

I've been doing some ripping back and reknitting but I've finally got it into a place I'm happy with and the arm is working in the lace. I've got twice as far with the same amount of yardage so hopefully I'll avoid yarn chicken.

Actually I did say to dh "Right, if the count is wrong this time, I'm throwing it in the fire!" Grin

It was certainly annoying, but I still find mistakes in crochet less stressful than in knitting, because it's easier to undo!

That's brioche knitting, right Flavia? It's stunning!

Bobbles section complete! Starting Stacked Waves tomorrow.

Yay for success though, persistence paid off! Smile

Yes, it's brioche, I'm completely converted to brioche love after years of not seeing the point of it. It's sooo squishy...

lazylinguist · 12/02/2021 09:44

But it's so pretty too! I love the colour combination - they aren't colours it would necessarily have occurred to me to put together (but I am notoriously boring when it comes to colours!) but they are stunning.

Thanks! Smile I can't take the credit for the colours, I was dithering about a contrast for the blue and the dyers helped me pick it out. I tend to stick to blues, grays and greens without outside intervention Grin

Leaningtoweroflisa · 12/02/2021 12:31

flavia is brioche hard to learn please? It’s on my learning new things this year list, I love he contrasts and pattern eg leaves and am very envious of your lovely work in progress.

My mum is trying to relearn crochet as one of my nieces wants to learn, so I’ve just ordered the picapau book for her, based on twiswas’s fab animals.

SoupDragon · 12/02/2021 12:48

I've lined up some crochet brioche patterns on the back of this.

SoupDragon · 12/02/2021 12:49

Picking random colours for my CAL blanket has been quite educational in that respect. They aren't completely random insofar as I make sure they "go" but sometimes it's a big surprise what goes together.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 12/02/2021 12:51

It took a night of me swatching and ripping it out while watching videos for it to click Lisa but it wasn't too bad, aside from the occasional dropped stitch fudge fix!

I'm making the Broadleaf sweater and the pattern comes with videos that walk you through each bit and it is amazing, like being spoonfed the instructions Grin

lucysmam · 12/02/2021 14:40

Argh! I've just pulled last night's brick row - I'm ending up with 198 instead of 197 stitches somehow Confused. I've re-counted the row below & there are 197 stitches, as there should be, so clearly I'm stitching into the same stitch twice somewhere Hmm Not sure where/how though as the stitches are in groups of 6 so I've been marking at 30🤷‍♀️

CrochetBug · 12/02/2021 14:48

Well the ball that I found that I thought was DK quite obviously isn't. So I'll have to order one after all. Everywhere now has the scheepjes back in stock, but the stylecraft I need is out of stock :( I refuse to pay £2.95 postage for a £1.99 ball of wool Grin

Not that it matters. I have enough other WIPs that I can shelve this one again.

lazylinguist · 12/02/2021 16:03

Me too. These threads have resulted in a very long wishlist for me... brioche and amigurumi, plus umpteen specific patterns and types of item/accessory/garment that I've never had a go at!

Oh lucysmam - you can join me in 'inexplicable and infuriating counting problems' corner! There's a handy bit of wall to bang your head against and a fire to throw things into. Grin It's also conveniently located next to the drinks cabinet and snacks cupboard, for when it all gets too much.

lazylinguist that sounds like the ideal place to be atm Grin

I can't even blame the girls talking at to me either; both were upstairs when I did that row.

I'm going to do some more of the little bear instead tonight & try again tomorrow. The ricorumi's nice to work with & looks much neater than the dk I have been using up to now for the amigurumi characters. I think I might buy some more colours at some point.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 12/02/2021 18:34

'inexplicable and infuriating counting problems' corner! Eeerr, could I join that corner please? 🙋‍♀️

Row 4 of stacked waves had two too many stitches. After counting and re-counting and re-counting again and counting the shells then the trebles in the shells, everything was right but my overall count was still wrong. Somehow, despite numerous recounts I’ve managed to just count an extra 2 stitches. Then on row 6 of the stacked waves - I’ve got two too few stitches. This time because I missed two trebles about a 1/4 of the way into the row. I’m halfway through stacked waves that I seem to have been doing for about 4 days now!

I had never heard of brioche knitting before so something else on the list of things to try.

I need the counting problems corner for the sock I’m currently knitting a mysterious extra stitch keeps appearing and disappearing.

bruffin · 12/02/2021 19:22

I made this brioche hat last year, think its a good learning piece, but i had a look at a few videos first as the pattern was a little confusing.

@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack A massive thank you to you for taking the time to really explain your answer to me right back at the beginning (?) of this thread FlowersFlowersFlowers

I'm so touched with your efforts & reading it again today, yes, I do understand it!!! Grin

I'm sorry I didn't reply earlier, but I've been v poorly & not on MN or knitting. I'm feeling confident now that when I restart, I can have a go at what you've explained. You are lovely ❤️

For now, I'll just enjoy catching up with everyone else's amazing creations Brew

tizwozliz · 12/02/2021 20:15

I really like the ricorumi and I only really discovered it by accident - a selection box of it was the only thing I could find to buy in lockdown 1! At the moment I use a 3mm hook with it but tempted to try using a smaller hook on the next thing I make.

lucysmam · 12/02/2021 21:03

I'd never heard of it before this thread tizwoz, it feels totally different to any of the other yarns I've tried over the past 6 or so months though. I'm using a 3mm hook with it, with no problems at all where I was catching it on the dk. I imagine it'd be nice and smooth with a smaller hook too.

I've packed up for the night. What's everyone's favourite (older) song? I've been sat in the kitchen for the past few hours, with dd1, playing loads of music. I've discovered a liking for Mother Mother, and Black Pink. & found out she quite likes Franz Ferdinand and Arctic Monkeys but isn't fussed about The Killers (my favourite) or Bon Jovi! It was fun & we're going to carry on tomorrow. I'm playing through Youtube so pretty much everything at my fingertips.

CrochetBug · 12/02/2021 21:08

I've never used ricorumi, but always use cotton for amigurumi. It gives a much nicer finish!

I've been playing with reversible crochet (like i don't have any WIPs to do). I always struggle to settle to anything on Fridays Hmm

lazylinguist · 12/02/2021 21:14

I really like Arctic Monkeys and The Killers, lucysmam. Never heard of Mother Mother or Black Pink!
