SC10 usually gives 10% off non sale items.

lazylinguist · 21/01/2021 14:42

There seem to be several codes. I used sc19 and CrochetBug mentioned Rav10.

lucysmam · 21/01/2021 14:53

Code sc23 worked for me.

When I got my CAL yarn, I got sent a zodiac crochet calendar too. This is the Aquarius (20th Jan - 18th Feb) critter. His little description is:

You’ll feel drawn to working on a community project that will let your helping hands (and hook) shine. You’ll have a giggle and enjoy expressing yourself creatively too with your original ideas.
Stash: full of novelty yarns and bright colours
Favourite colour scheme: electric blue and navy
Favourite stitch: granny treble
Crochet style: most likely to alter a pattern to suit personal style

Do you think they’re talking about the CAL? Grin

@InTheNightWeWillWish oh oh oh that's so cute! Definitely sounds like the CAL Grin

I have a weird memory* in the sense that even years later I can tell you who bought something and when (eg I can look at baby photos of DC and tell you who bought their outfit and for what occasion), or why I bought something. So most of my extensive stash I can tell you which project the balls are left over from. But I've got one ball that I don't even remember buying, let alone know what it was for Hmm

*don't ask me what I did yesterday though.

Myshitisreal · 21/01/2021 18:37

Thanks everyone 👍🏼

SoupDragon · 21/01/2021 18:58

But I've got one ball that I don't even remember buying, let alone know what it was for

It appears the Odd Sock Monster is branching out into balls of yarn.

yarncakes · 21/01/2021 19:33

Just marking my place :) I am a crochet addict. X

Ooohhhhh. I hope so! Especially if s/he delivers yarn at the same rate as odd socks Grin
Runforwine · 21/01/2021 19:39

Thanks for all the encouragement everyone. I'm still struggling but am determined not to give up. I've order a book which will arrive tomorrow, fingers crossed it will help.

lazylinguist · 21/01/2021 19:48

That's the spirit, Runforwine! Is there any specific bit you're struggling with, or just taking a while to get the hang of it?

Runforwine · 21/01/2021 20:05

lazylinguist I am having trouble with the double crochet, in my head I know how to do it, but my hands don't seem to be able to do it!

lazylinguist · 21/01/2021 20:44

Are you using UK terminology or US, Runforwine?

OP posts:
lucysmam · 21/01/2021 21:08

I've made a start on the multi-coloured crewmate dd2 wants. 36 stitches/round 6 in, I can't get round 7 right - I've worked out that scinc,6 sc x8 gives me 48 stitches...but then I have a spare stitch from round 7 once I've done 48sc Confused.

I've counted & re-counted & have no idea why it isn't working out!

lucysmam · 21/01/2021 21:10

Never mind; I've just twigged - I'm only stitching in 35 of the stitches.

So now I'm even more baffled, unless I just chuck in the odd sc? But then I'd have 49 & my next round wouldn't be right either!

CrochetBug · 21/01/2021 21:14

@lucysmam how many should you end up with? I'm trying to picture it. It sounds like you're using a different pattern to me.

lucysmam · 21/01/2021 21:16

@CrochetBug I'm trying to make a bigger one so no pattern as such, just attempting to 72 stitches round for the body iyswim?

lucysmam · 21/01/2021 21:23

Actually; I think scinc, 2 sc in next 2 sts should take me there.

& then same again to 60, and then 72.

But I think that'll give me a more hexagon shape than I want so might reverse the inc & sts so they're not sat on top of the same.

CrochetBug · 21/01/2021 21:24

How many sc did you do for round 1?

I think I'd do
Round 1. 6sc
Round 2. Sc inc - x6 (12 sc)
Round 3. Sc, sc inc - x6 (18 sc)
Round 4. Sc, sc, sc inc - x6 (24sc)
Round 5 sc x3 sc inc - x6 (30sc)
Round 6. Sc x4, sc inc - x6 (36sc)
Round 7. Sc x 5, sc inc -x6 (42sc)
Round 8. Sc x 6, sc inc- x6 (48 sc)
Round 9. Sc x 7, sc inc - x6 (54sc)
Round 10. Sc x 8, sc inc - x6 (60 sc)
Round 11. Sc x 9, sc inc - x6 (66 sc)
Round 12. Sc x 10, sc inc - x6 (72sc)

Does that make sense? So an increase of 6 stitches per Round.

lucysmam · 21/01/2021 21:27

Your way seems less chunky increases than mine, thank you. I couldn't see the increase to 42 Blush. I'm going to write that down for future reference!

CrochetBug · 21/01/2021 21:34

No worries.
As a general guide you need to increase by however many stitches you start with on each round. So if round 1 is 4 stitches you increase 4 each round. If you start with 7 then increase 7 each round and so on. And stagger where the increases are so they aren't on top of each other.
Or maybe that's to make a circle rather than a 3d shape.
Now I'm confused Blush

lucysmam · 21/01/2021 21:35

Grin sorry!

But very much appreciated Thanks

I'm sure the legs will confuse me too Hmm

JPduck · 21/01/2021 21:37

Can I join you?
I like to crochet. Didn't choice to do the current CAL however I've chosen one from a few year years ago to start once I've made my friend a cushion cover.
Recently made the woodland CAL pattern for my cousins new baby.
