Knit, Crochet and Natter Thread

I was hoping to join a local rl knit&natter group, and then lockdown happened. Sad But knitting and crochet are keeping me cheerful during lockdown and as the nights are drawing in!

There seem to be quite a few ongoing chat threads on other MN boards, so I wondered if there might be any interest in a rolling knitting and crochet thread, for anyone who fancies chatting about knitting, crochet and life in general of course! Total beginners and scarily experienced needle-wizards and everyone in between, all welcome.

Share your projects, yarn stash confessions, pattern niggles or newbie questions. Not sure if it will fizzle out after a few posts, but hey ho, worth a try!

Rav10 ( I think!!) gives 10% off some wool sites as well

lazylinguist · 01/12/2020 19:41

Kate105 that jumper is stunning! 😍 It's just the kind of thing I like. I can only hope that my sleeveless jumper with fairisle yoke turns out half as well as that.

Good tip on the Rav10 code, Knittingnanny - will have to try that next time!

Kate105, that's stunning. Lovely colours as well as lovely pattern.

Sophs29, welcome to the wonder of Wool Warehouse😍by far my favourite.

Deramores does my head in. The website is slow, and there’s not enough info about the yarn when you do a random search.

Wool Warehouse is just perfect.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 01/12/2020 21:52

Oh, that's lovely Kate. That green is gorgeous!

sophs29 · 02/12/2020 07:35

@TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince can't believe I've been missing out all this time haha! Its so easy to filter results and find exactly what you need want! Grin

@Kate105 that jumper is stunning! I wish I had time to attempt something like that!
I have a nearly 3 year old and a 4 week old so finding it hard to fit in any crochet at the moment!

SoupDragon · 02/12/2020 07:41

I am building up a collection of small D rings from Woolwarehouse from when I need to spend a small amount of money to get free delivery. One day I will work out what to do with them 😂

Kate105 · 02/12/2020 07:43

Thank you for your lovely comments! I am quite proud of this one. Love a good fair isle!

SC10 does as well. Not on reduced items though.

My MIL asked me what I wanted for Christmas yesterday, so I just listed some knitting/crochet-related stuff. She's the only family member who knits. My side of the family never buy me knitting stuff because they don't really get it!

I've asked for any of the following: digital row counter, case/roll for crochet hooks/dpns/circulars, some pretty stitch markers or any yarn that takes her fancy.

Can l ask about row counters?

I’ve never used one, as l know I’d forget to use it. Or I’d use it and then convince myself l hadn’t.

Are there any that do it automatically?

bruffin · 02/12/2020 11:29

Emoji
Not that i know, im exactly the same. I have downloaded an ap that you can use for rowcounting which doesnt cost

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 02/12/2020 11:36

I’ve actually bought little clip on lobster numbered row counters. I clip them in every 10 rows or so. But then sometimes l forget them too🙈

CrochetBug · 02/12/2020 11:51

I use an app on my phone for keeping track of rows. It's great because I can upload the pattern to it so its all in one place. I did pay for the premium featured. Well worth £6 per year!

lazylinguist · 02/12/2020 11:57

I thought of using my phone, but I thought it would be annoying that the screen would time out and I'd have to keep pressing the button! I've got a couple of plastic row counters which go on your needle, but they only fit on certain sizes. And I have a bigger plastic on a string you can put round yiur neck, but the dial moves too easily- in a bag it gets turned by knocking against things. I clearly have a problem with row counters! Grin

CrochetBug · 02/12/2020 12:07

The screen doesn't time out on the app I have. I tried a few different ones row counters before this, one that went on the hook, one that fastened to my finger and a loose one. The app is so much easier imo.

lazylinguist · 02/12/2020 12:44

Ah ok. Well if MIL doesn't get me a digital one, I'll definitely try that app out!

Sorry. Just realised my last post could read a bit snippy. Blush I didnt mean it to.

Here's a picture of sock number 2. I'm in love with these colours! They remind me of flowers and fruit salad sweets.

Can I join in? I feel like I’ve found my people

I learned to crochet at beginning of lockdown and made a few blankets for baby that I had back in may

Since being on maternity leave I’ve mainly stuck to easy things so I don’t get too frustrated but have made lots of bobble hats for the family, scarfs, leg warmers and now I’m doing lots of Christmas decorations

Wow @Onedropbeat I love that cute little star!! have you seen the crochet snowflakes? I really want to try but just trying to find the time!

lazylinguist · 02/12/2020 14:05

CrochetBug - no hint of snippiness! Smile Cool sock - definitely fruit salads!

Lovely star, Onedropbeat,!

I have to confess, I'm a bit bored with making my paper chain. Still, it's long enough to fit perfectly where I've put it. Grin

Oh phew! I read it back and was a bit worried!

Love the star @Onedropbeat.

And the jumper @Kate105 made is gorgeous! I made myself a cardigan but I'm a weird shape so it didn't fit very well. I took the sleeves off and now its a sleeveless slouchy shrug thing. I found a lovely jumper I wanted to make, but its so expensive buying enough yarn for a fatty like me, and ill probably have the same sizing issues. I probably could adjust the pattern but I'm lazy Grin

CrochetBug · 02/12/2020 14:20

Of forgot to say @lazylinguist that 'paper' chain is perfect Grin

Great paper chain.

You need to suspend a red pom-pom on fishing line from middle loop :o

lazylinguist · 02/12/2020 14:51

Oi, don't call yourself a fatty! . I'm a size 14 and fairly large of boob, which, combined with my poor understanding of knitting pattern sizing, makes it pretty tricky to work out what to make. If my Lettlopivest fits me it will be a miracle.

That could be arranged! If there's one thing we have plenty of in this house other than yarn, it's fishing line!

Instead of making the paper chain longer, I was thinking of making some knitted baubles in the sane colours. I've got an easy chart pattern, knitted flat.
