Next week I am on holiday in America, so many people have told me that scrapbooking in America is cheaper! If so where is the best shop/stores to go to.

Thanks

Look in local newspapers (and free mags) for coupons for Michaels.

Oh yes, you should go to Michaels

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 17/08/2007 05:05

I have a Michaels and Joanne's within 2 miles of me, but don't scrapbook. What a waste, huh?

I thought I was the only adult female in America who didn't. It is nice to know there are 2 of us. I don't know how many of my friends think I'm crazy because I tell them I'd rather save the money and play golf.

pinkbubble · 17/08/2007 08:35

Oh ok, will try Michaels, it is true scrapbooking is quite limited over here and quite expensive too.

Thank you so much for your help and tips. When I'm over there I will look out for the free newspapers to see if I can get any discounts.

I am soooo missing Michael's and Jo-Ann's right about now.

I've been jazzing up some plain tshirts and sweatshirts for DD1 to wear to nursery and remember the selection of iron-on appliques in both these shops .

Just gave my sister an excuse to make a run to both shops. BIL will be so pleased about that.

expatinscotland · 17/08/2007 19:25

I make a scrapbook every year for my mum from the girls.

Something she can take round all her card clubs (poker, bridge, bunco, etc.) and to her friends to show off.

She loves it, and now DD1 helps cut and paste and draws on some pages.

NotADragonOfSoup · 17/08/2007 19:39

Expat, I never had you down as someone who'd make a scrapbook!

Pinkbubble, no that's fine. Thank you very much though. It's the looking that's the real bit.

expatinscotland · 17/08/2007 21:28

I love 'em, Soupy. Been doing them for a while. Started with all Creative Memories stuff - I'm really dating myself there, but they used to be about the only acid-free, lingin-free sellers out there.

I still use mostly Creative Memories albums, although I found some great ones in Costco last year thanks to a tip off from an MNer and bought 10, so have been using those because I also do one for MIL.

They make economical, lovely gifts for relatives, especially with photos being so cheap to print now.

I also some terrific papers from Costco last year - another MN tipoff - to add to my stock.

I still mostly journal with gel pens, it's just my style, but my sister gave me some software with all kinds of fonts for journalling as well.

DD1 already really enjoys it.
