Following on from my other thread I would like to thank you all for pointing me in the right direction wrt learning to knit.

That site you linked to NQC was fab, really good, I have taught myself how to cast on, purl, cast off, and reminded myself of the good old knit stitch! (I have a picture of my trial piece if anyone fancies a larf)

And now I have a project - I am going to knit myself a cosy for my cafetiere. There I've said it, can't go back on it now

So what are you all working on? Anyone want to join me in my Knitting Circle?

suedonim, that's really adventurous

housemum · 17/01/2007 10:07

Hello - can I butt in please? Not exactly a novice knitter - I was the nerdy kid who learned to knit by making dolls' clothes - I did this till I was about 13 (obviously none of my friends knew - I never came out of the wool-closet).

Am not a patient person, though learning to be more so - have never completed an adult garment (the fuchsia-pink fluffy wool 1980's half-finished cardi still haunts me when I dare to delve in the back of the wardrobe). Largest completed garment was a Sylvester the cat jumper for eldest dd when she was 6 or 7, made lots of baby cardigans, getting back into it now youngest DD at pre-school. I have some of that lovely sock-wool mentioned earlier and am working on cardi for youngest dd. sunny cardi

Phew - that's a lot of typing. Re tea-cosies, did whoever wanted one find a pattern? I have one from Simply Knitting magazine but my scanner isn't working at the mo. It's shown in the picture as cream ribbed with 4 or 5 crochet flowers on top.

Must get housework done then can knit tonight - haven't since pre-Xmas and DD has grown (again!)

housemum · 17/01/2007 19:31

OMG have I just killed another thread?!

tamum · 17/01/2007 19:34

Oh sorry housemum! Welcome That cardi looks lovely, quite a challenge if you don't usually finish things I should think- the yarn is quite fine, isn't it?

I used to make clothes for my Sindy too....

Tatties · 17/01/2007 20:28

Evening all

Housemum, welcome!

I have got started with the baby blanket here .

I actually don't think it'll take me too long and it'll be good practice for me.

How are you all doing?

My sweaters seem to be coming out ok so far... Have had a great evening, watching DVD's of Desperate Housewives (DH not on TV here in Nigeria) and knitting furiously.

housemum · 20/01/2007 10:19

Thanks to this thread for kick-starting me. Have now got back, left front and right front of cardi. Off to start sleeve one now...

Tatties · 20/01/2007 22:02

How are you getting on Housemum? I think it definitely helps to write down what you plan to do, makes you feel obliged to continue! I am plodding on with the blanket.

Sleeve one just started - mad weekend of ferrying kids around to activities/firends etc then to cap it all the central heating pump sprang a leak (only a drip thank goodness!) today which shorted the pump, tripped all the sockets, put me in a grump this morning as I had wet hair and no hairdryer. May get on with more later, or more likely veg out with yesterday's papers... (the lovely gas man came and fixed it)

tamum · 24/01/2007 17:01

Hello everyone, long time no see. I have just made some baby Ugg bootees which I think are quite cute- there's a picture here and I can find a link to the pattern if anyone wants it

Pruni · 24/01/2007 17:03

tamum · 24/01/2007 17:06

Right, I'll get started then

Tatties · 25/01/2007 21:20

Oh hello

This had fallen off my thread list... I am still doing the blanket!

Can I join in please?

I finished my first ever scarf (from the Stitch n Bitch book) yesterday - just need to sew in the wool ends to tidy it up (only I need to go to the shops to buy a bigger darning needle )

Going to do the ribbed scarf next in there. My main problem is that my local department store has a really lousy selection of wools and accessories. Was thinking of finding some good online suppliers so I can get more choice and have placed a small order with Dragon Yarns . Does anyone else use any online shops they can recommend?

Twiglett · 26/01/2007 18:35

is it the alien one .. I'm doing that one .. I'm so fed up of it

I'm not giving it a fringe though cos DH doesn't think that's right for a 6 year old boy

how long does a scarf have to be by the way? .. is it supposed to go down to waist on both sides or something?

RubberDuck · 26/01/2007 18:45

No, I just did the beginner one - knit stitch with 3 different colours repeated. Am doing the "ribbed for her pleasure" scarf next (arf)

tamum · 26/01/2007 18:47

DragonYarns are good Rubberduck, but there are loads of others. I'll try and find a list I posted a while ago because it would take me ages to do it again. In the meantime, though, GetKnitted are one of the best...

Tatties · 26/01/2007 18:48

lol RubberDuck!

OP posts:
tamum · 26/01/2007 18:51

There's a thread where I put lots of links here

RubberDuck · 26/01/2007 19:09

Oh, that's a FAB list, tamum! Feel much better about not being near a decent wool shop now

I've just seen your thread, Twiglett, with the picture of the alien illusion scarf - that looks so GOOD! You can't give up now!! I may well do that for my own 5 year old as he was really upset that the first scarf is earmarked for Daddy

Fillyjonk · 27/01/2007 12:07

omg that has NQC who is now a knitting guru asking for help!

RubberDuck · 27/01/2007 12:45

MY WOOL ARRIVED!

I feel childishly excited - is it silly for a 32 year old woman to get excited over a delivery of 2 balls of wool, some stitch protectors and a darning needle?!

knittedpolly · 27/01/2007 12:59

Hello,im new to this but can i join your knitting circle.Im expecting my third baby in september and considering finding out the sex just so i know what colour to start creating baby snugglies in!Im obsessed with it.

RubberDuck · 27/01/2007 13:08

knittedpolly: yellow and green - tried and true "don't know the sex of the baby" colours

Fillyjonk · 27/01/2007 13:26

"natural" colours are nice for babies, I think

there is someone...can't remember who who knits lovely stuff for babies in alpaca...samantha something? they had it at the posh shop near my mum's...

anyway, IMO alpaca is too scratchy but the colours were nice

have you seen the erika knight stuff?
