I'm going to make a baby blanket for some good friends who are expecting their first. Grin

I'm thinking of doing a ripple (attic24 pattern) of mostly cream with red, yellow, blue and green stripes. Probably 2 cream, 1 colour: repeat to end.

What do you think?

I have itchy trigger fingers for ordering wool! Blush

Hmmmm. I do think I'm going to want a grippier hook, but I don't want to mess up my tension either. Confused

This is the grippy hook I had knit pro waves soft grip

I think my work is a bit loose aswell, it's def not as tight as the one on the blog.
I'm just going to carry on with it now, im on line 7, so cant bear to start again! I will use a smaller size hook on the next one I make though.

rockinghorseShit · 05/06/2014 13:56

Here is a pic of what ive done so far. Is it ridiculously loose?? Its the first thing Ihave actually made!

That looks like mine, I dont think it's necessarily wrong as such. But I remembered it having a closer texture and that's what I wanted this time.

I only frogged 1.5 rows though, so although annoying not heartbreaking.

Like the colours! :)

oh poo, I cant decide what to do now, ive changed to a 3.5mm hook and it's much better, but it would look funny changing now, so I think I will keep on with the 4mm hook now, I just couldn't bear to start again, I am addicted to it, I have totally neglected the housework today!

Suddengeekgirl · 05/06/2014 19:22

rockinghorse - I really didn't mean to make you think you've done it wrong or anything! Confused
The looser tension will give your blanket a more lacy look I think - which isn't wrong, just different.
I'm really impressed you've got so far so fast - took me days to crack the foundation chain first time!

Wine to ignoring the housework! :)

oh no, don't worry, I didn't think that, just wanted to see what people thought of it to check it isn't laughable!
I think it will look ok, but next time, I definitely want it to look tighter, you live and learn!

Suddengeekgirl · 06/06/2014 21:40

Here's mine so far...

Still looser than I remember. Hmm
I like it though. :)

(Apologies for lousy pic - sat on sofa and any be bothered to switch lamp off!)

Did my colours in the wrong order so just frogged 4 rows! Grrrr!

Oh what a bugger having to pull all that out! Have you got back to where you were yet?
We've been away in our caravan for a couple of night, but I took the blanket with me and managed to get some done!

Suddengeekgirl · 08/06/2014 18:53

I was too disgusted with myself to do more than 1 row last night.

Today I spent all my child free time trying to pattern match on the curtain fabric I've bought for our enormous bay window. It took a lot of brain power. Confused

I've finally caught back up to where I was. :)

That looks lovely Smile.

rockinghorseShit · 10/06/2014 22:05

that's lovely!
I'm thinking about my next one now, a single bed size for my dd, I want to make the next one tighter and ive found that the one im doing now has got slightly less slack as ive gone along, but still not how I want it .

Im wondering of my technique is wrong, or if I should be using a size 3 hook for my next one?

rockinghorseShit · 23/06/2014 14:59

Hi Geekgirl, just wondering how youre getting on?? Im on row 63, and still thinkgin it needs to be bigger...
Im getting a bit tired of it now and want to get on with something else!

Suddengeekgirl · 23/06/2014 18:56

I'm slow! Blush

I've not even finished 2 rounds of my colour repeat pattern!

To be fair we've been away and busy etc. the heat makes me not keen on crocheting - hot fingers feel fat an sluggish. Confused

I think my last blanket was about 100 rows so I've got months worth of crochet to do! Eeek! unless I turn it sideways and make a smaller blanket iyswim

I'll post a pic once I've finished the second round of colour/ pattern.
Can you post a pic of yours? :)

That's lovley rockinghorse, are you going to put a border on it or leave as is?

rockinghorseShit · 25/06/2014 13:40

Thankyou pie&mash yes, I think it needs a border it seems unfinished especially on the straight edges, just need to decide which colours to use, am thinking yellow and green maybe

piemashandliquer · 25/06/2014 22:04

It'll look great, do post the finished article!

Suddengeekgirl · 26/06/2014 20:17

rockinghorse - that's fab! You've whizzed through those ripples! Grin

Here's mine. I am much slower!

finally finished! I am not completely happy with it, I feel it is a bit botched in places, especially the edging, and I tried to put fancier border on it, but it looked really scruffy, so ripped it off.......
overall, enjoyed doing it.
How's yours coming on SGG?

Suddengeekgirl · 03/07/2014 21:16

That's lovely! Grin I don't think it looks botched at all! And the simple straight border looks good - anything else might be too fussy with the ripples. I'm going to do a straight edge on mine.

But I am SO SLOW! There are mitigating circumstances as ds broke his arm this week so I've been rather distracted....

Back to it tomorrow. :)

rockinghorseShit · 03/07/2014 22:43

thanks!
I am straight onto starting my next one, just done the first row, looking forward to using some different colours....I am addicted. I'm using the 3.5mm hook this time so hopefully it will be tighter.

Hope your ds is ok, is he in pot?
