I'm going to make a baby blanket for some good friends who are expecting their first. Grin

I'm thinking of doing a ripple (attic24 pattern) of mostly cream with red, yellow, blue and green stripes. Probably 2 cream, 1 colour: repeat to end.

What do you think?

I have itchy trigger fingers for ordering wool! Blush

oh yes, and code SC18 or SC19 should get 10% off at WW - not on colour packs or overseas deliveries though!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/05/2014 13:17

Yes, just buy the pack. You know you want to.

I agree about the shrimp not looking great on it's own but it works well with the other colours.

Suddengeekgirl · 30/05/2014 14:46

You are all a terrible influence! :)

Right. I think I have decided.

Pomegranate
Saffron
Meadow
Cloud blue
Cream

Need to try and work out how much to buy now...

Lovely choices.

I like sherbet as a pale blue but cloud looks great with your other colours.

What pattern are you planning on using?

Suddengeekgirl · 30/05/2014 17:34

Thanks :)

It'll be the attic24 ripple. I've done it before and once is cracked the foundation chain/ first row it was ok.

I'm going to do 2 rows of cream, 1 row of colour, 2 cream , 1colour etc etc. probably in red, yellow, green, blue order. I can't do random combos in my crochet or in real life! I'm a planner! Confused Blush

Wish I could find my pics of the first one I did so I could work out how many in foundation chain and how many rows.

I would love to make something similar to this. I have 2 friends expecting later on in the year, I would like to use similar colors to yours, I think, Woolwarehouse looks an excellent website, and the price of the stylecraft yarns are a bargain. I am dying to buy some, crochet is addictive.
what size blanket are you going to make? I am thinking pram size blanket, can I ask how many balls of each wool you have bought?
Sorry to be nosy, but I am only a beginner and now too confident yet!

Suddengeekgirl · 31/05/2014 14:17

rockinghorse - I'm no pro! Attic24's website has loads of photo tutorials which I found really easy to learn from. :)

I've bought one of each of my colours and 3 cream balls (so 7 in total.

I'm not sure how big the blanket will be in cm but the last one I did was large pram/ cot sized. It was a foundation chain of 140 and was about 100 rows, so maybe a meter long? It was big enough for my then 3yo ds to snuggle under till it went to its proper home.

I think doing stripes is pretty forgiving if you need to use a different dye lot when you run out of wool unexpectedly.

great, thankyou, I was thiking maybe 3 balls of the cream and one of each colour. I am so excited about starting it!
I have made the sample and I am really pleased with it, but it took a while to make the chain and the first row was tricky as I found it hard to see where I shoud be going into. Im not sure Ive done it right at the edges where you do 2 into the top of the foundation chain. Good job im not a perfectionist! haha
I will be interested to hear how youre getting on with yours x

Do any of you know if Parchment and Stone are too similar to have on a three colour blanket with cream? I can't see them in rl, so would like to have an idea before I order them. I've included pic of the squares I want to make.

Wow you're good Owl! I think I'll jsut stick with two colours. Cheers!

OwlCapone · 31/05/2014 18:05

I think I have the entire Stylecraft colour range... Blush

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 31/05/2014 18:35

Me too owl, I keep promising myself I will downsize and use it all up but the problem is I start a project and need another ball of a certain colour to complete it so I seem to be in a vicious cycle of replenishing my stocks ... And then they bring out new colours as well!

MrsGubbins · 31/05/2014 18:42

if you're on facebook, there's a great post on the My Craft Life page with the stats for number of balls of wool, foundation chain all relating to the completed size of blanket that you want. She's also posted how to calculate your foundation chain based on size of blanket wanted. Good Luck.. I'm itching to start a huge blanket!

Suddengeekgirl · 31/05/2014 20:31

Oooh that sounds really useful! :)
Any idea where to look - found her on FB but couldn't see the post.

I've decided to restrict myself to the 17 in the granny stripe pack plus black, white and dark brown (those are for when I crochet animals and flowers etc). Otherwise I will get totally out of control! Having bought all these this week I'm now going to donate the rest of my old stash to charity.

Suddengeekgirl · 31/05/2014 21:09

mrsgubbins - actually I've just found it. It's in the first tutorial for the granny stripe blanket. :)

This is the ripple I made doing 3 rows cream, then two rows colour. I really love how it looks and was a bit sad to give it away when finished.... So I have started another :)

Hope it turns up!

This is my Granny stripe blanket so far. I think the saffron is just about my favourite too, and yellow is not normally a favourite of mine.
