Dilly - love the lampshade, love the title Grin

I need a simple star to attach to a square so not huge, can't find what I'm looking for - any ideas anyone?

Thanks

great lampshade Dilly.

Never done crochet before but have just finished making a cushion out of granny squares and I am now making a patchwork square bag for my dd to take to university.

prefer it to knitting

PurplePidjin · 04/08/2012 20:33

Evening all, I'm home after my adventures with teenagers in Eastern Europe and have done lots of crochet!

Dilly, your phonebox is half done (long one plus one panel crocheted on) it works but i had 2 rows too many on the long one. Could be me, and it was easily adjusted. Unfortunately my plastic hook snapped on the coach to Riga this morning, but I'll carry on with a proper metal one when i get a chance and see if it happens again :) Oh, and i was doing ch1 to turn at the end of each row, is that right? It's not in the instructions...

Pistey and i are meeting at 11.30ish in the yarn department of John Lewis Southampton if anyone fancies joining us BrewCake

PurplePidjin · 04/08/2012 20:34

That would be On Monday

qazxc · 05/08/2012 09:25

Thanks for the links. Unfortunately the Vogue are sold out, i quite liked a couple of their cardigans. Although I probably should stop stockpiling yarn and patterns Blush

Wolfcub · 05/08/2012 09:43

I've managed to get the yarn for mum's christmas blanket, I went for Sirdar click in the end for a combination of affordability and woolyness. Now I reckon that I need to crochet a minimum of three squares every week until the end of November and then spend two weeks putting it together and edging it. Does anyone more experienced think I need to work at a faster rate?

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 05/08/2012 16:03

That sounds like plenty of time Wolfcub
What pattern are you using, and how big are your squares?

Wolfcub · 05/08/2012 16:10

Pantryboy, I'm doing 6 inch granny squares I have shades of green, cream and a sort of heather purple - kind of north Yorkshire moors colours.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 05/08/2012 16:16

Sounds lovely, six inch squares should work up pretty quickly and three a week is an easy target.
If I were you I would sew the ends in as you go otherwise you have the most horrific job at the end speaks from experience

Wolfcub · 06/08/2012 20:38

Good tip, I shall definitely do that as I really really don't like sewing in the ends and the thought of doing that for
64 squares at once Biscuit

Quiche is a mumsnet misspelling of clique. This one's hook flavoured Wink

I am struggling terribly with my granny square - I have no tension. I'm a sloppy hooker...

Team Hooker should start our own thread in the Pictures topic so we can share our projects :)

(I'm doing a granny stripe blanket and it's lurrvely. It's 2.5 ish feet wide and will be as long as I think looks good. It's white and dark green.)

I love the lampshade!

How are you holding the yarn, Dances? I find it easiest to wrap the yarn around my little finger to keep the tension right. As described in this youtube video

DancesWithWoolsEnPointe · 08/08/2012 22:38

I'll try that Jolly - thanks

Wolfcub · 09/08/2012 06:53

I have weak fingers at the moment so I find wrapping the yarn one way around the little finger and then the reverse way around the next finger helps. I have no idea if I'm a sloppy hooker or not [novice hooker emoticon].

SoupDragon · 11/08/2012 10:07

This star is so easy - I can see myself making a whole load of them for Christmas!

OP posts:
DillyTante · 11/08/2012 10:51

Those stars look addictive!

I've just posted a heart pattern to my blog.

Other than that I've been a bit light on crochet since my lampshade. I have a vague plan to create a children's picture book out of crochet. I'm looking for some nice, slightly fuzzy yarn to make this little fella. Any suggestions?
