Very cute, very easy once you get the hang of where the seams go, but at 9m i assume dc will spend at least some time on their feet so i'd go for something flat soled:

In English

Ch 10, dc in 2nd from hook and across, ch 1 turn (9sts)

Work dc rows for 3" (16 rows)

2dc, 2htc, tc, 2htc, 2dc across.

Dc around edge of sole. Sl st to join, ch 1.

Dc in back loop only around. Sl st ch 1. Finish off and restart in corner of heel. Change colour here if you like - i like to change to Sirdar Snowflake :)

3 rows of dc.

Mark centre of toe. Count 10 sts each side and mark. Dc around until you reach the first marker. dc3tog, dc2tog 7 times. Dc to end of row, sl st ch 1.

Mark centre. Count 7 sts each side and mark. Dc to first marker. Dc3tog 5 times. Dc to end of row, sl st ch 1

Dc around. Either finish here or carry on to get a cuff

Sorry if i've x posted, had to make one to pattern it!

If that's too small, just make the sole bigger and rejig how many decreases you do - might need a third row in a bigger size :)

GrapesAnatomy · 23/07/2012 18:37

Thanks Pidj. You might be right about the flat sole though, still i am going to give them a go. The baby they are for is not crawling or standing yet. I've tried a few different bootie patterns but I just can't seem to get them right Sad [cross] They seem to come out funny shapes or odd sizes, I tried these yesterday but they came out all squishy and too small Confused
I wonder now if they were uk dc or US. I find that so confusing. I did hook through stitch, yo, pull through, yo, pull through two. That is uk double I think? I did them in RICO creative cotton.

GrapesAnatomy · 23/07/2012 18:41

Is that pattern for different booties? Confused

PurplePidjin · 23/07/2012 18:56

The Ravelry mary janes are in US - that's the same stitch you use for granny squares. Yo, through, yo, back, yo, through 2 loops, yo, through 2 loops.

Yes, i wrote you a version of the pattern i use that'll work in dk - there's a pic on my profile of the ones i do in chunky/snowflake :)

PurplePidjin · 23/07/2012 19:01

Try this one for the 10 minute bootees

PATTERN:
-CH 56
-DC IN THE 3RD CH FROM THE HOOK AND IN EVERY CH, CH 2, TURN
-HDC EVERY DC, CH 2, TURN
-HDC EVERY HDC, CH 2, TURN x4 rows
-HDC THE FIRST 13 HDC, DC2TOG THE NEXT 28 STITCHES, HDC LAST 13 HDC, CH 1, TURN
-SS THE FIRST 12 HDC, DC2TOG THE NEXT 16 STITCHES, SS THE LAST 12 HDC

Well if you'd only said they were prize winning booties...Grin

Thanks Pidj, you are a star Thanks

PurplePidjin · 23/07/2012 19:33

I made a 10 minute one, and tbh the best thing that can be said is it's quick. It ain't staying on baby, that's for sure, not past the static newborn stage - once baby can reach their toes, that thing's going flying! The pattern i use can have a cuff or strap added - gives you time to catch it before it gets flung, at least Wink

JollyHockeyStick · 23/07/2012 21:36

You folks are wonderful and so clever!

I made a cube last night. But it's quite round. Never mind, Ds loves it and I managed to have fairly consistent tension and to sew it together without too much swearing Grin

PurplePidjin · 23/07/2012 21:47

Piccies, Jolly, it's The Law Wink

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 23/07/2012 21:48

Well done JHS.

Has anyone used Debbie Bliss Amalfi? It's on sale on The Black Sheep site, there are some lovely colours

JollyHockeyStick · 24/07/2012 10:10

Cube has been uploaded :)

SoupDragon · 24/07/2012 11:23

Nice cube :)

I think it's difficult to stuff a cube and keep it square unless the sides are really firm.

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 24/07/2012 19:54

It's vair cool :o

Afaik the only way to make a crochet cube stay cuboid is to use it as a cover for a fabric cube Wink

PurpleFrog · 24/07/2012 20:32

PurplePidjin - I hate to disagree but I think another way to make a crochet cube stay cuboid would be to use it as a cover for a cube made out of plastic canvas! Wink

PurplePidjin · 24/07/2012 20:45

I thought of another one - use a cube of foam instead of toy stuffing :o

I might try that, actually, my local fabric shop does cut-to-size foam and i need a little project to take abroad with me

JollyHockeyStick · 24/07/2012 20:57

DH actually suggested using a square of foam before I did it. He's clearly a natural.

Thank you all for your feedback. I'm going to make at least one more in a different colour but I may just stuff it too, so it matches the one I've made already.

JollyHockeyStick · 24/07/2012 20:58

www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/baby-plush-toy-blocks

Is the pattern. I seem to have sewn mine together differently somehow.

PurplePidjin · 24/07/2012 21:12

Have a look at a tennis ball next time you get the chance Wink

JollyHockeyStick · 24/07/2012 21:12

Also, I sewed mine with thread. Am I supposed to use the yarn?

PurplePidjin · 24/07/2012 21:14

I would use dc to join the two parts, and it looks like that's how they've made the ridges on the ones in the photos. Or you can whipstitch it.

Yes, you use the yarn :)

JollyHockeyStick · 24/07/2012 21:17

Ah, that's why their one is different. Very clever! Thank you :)

PurplePidjin · 24/07/2012 22:14

I reckon yellow ones hooked together with white would be pretty cool though

SoupDragon · 29/07/2012 02:21

Gratuitous beach shot with incidental crochet.
