I'm having a nightmare with the shell stitch, I've pulled it back and started again six times and have just been to the library to get a book to help as the pattern (I use the term loosely) is a bitch. I am about to pull back for the 7th and last time. If this doesn't work I give up!

PurplePidjin · 21/07/2012 17:17

I won 2nd prize (80p) for my bootees Shock

And the WIs feathers were ruffled because the judge deemed my rattle unsuitable for babies. No one can work out why someone would think that!

And the mean, fat, stupid girl from school is still mean, fat and stupid. And single

PurplePidjin · 21/07/2012 17:18

Wolfcub, pop the pattern up here and I'll see if i can figure it out for you? or more likely make up my own that i think is better

SoupDragon · 21/07/2012 18:52

Yay for a prize!

What on earth was unsuitable about the rattle?

I am just about to add a leaf to my apple cozy. It's not in the pattern but it neds a leaf IMO.

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 21/07/2012 19:04

I spent it on homemade cakes, 4 for £1 at the end from the tea stall

No one could figure it out, several nice older ladies (WI types, beautiful knitting!) were as Confused as me!

Apple definitely needs a lear. And a wiggly worm :o

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 21/07/2012 19:47

Well done PP.

SoupDragon, that cosy is very pretty.

I've started a new blanket using diagonal box stitch here

I didn't intend to use this pattern I just wanted to try it out but it seems to have taken on a life of its own Smile
I've also used the pattern to make another square for Expat's blanket.

SoupDragon · 21/07/2012 20:31

Ooooh... nice blanket. I've just packed 14 balls of Stylecraft in my suitcase :o I was going to do a granny stripe but that diagonal one looks tempting...

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 21/07/2012 20:35

Are you off somewhere lovely Soupy?

I was going to do a granny stripe then some of the pupils in my class taught me this stitch and I was hooked.

I taught them to crochet in December and by the end of the school year they were teaching me new patterns.

I'm going to need to order some more Stylecraft soon.. so many colours, so little money!

SoupDragon · 21/07/2012 21:21

Nowhere nice Antigua we go there every two years as I have a timeshare villa directly on the beach in an all inclusive resort. This blanket will remind me of the holiday :)

Oh, you lucky lucky thing. Sounds lovely.

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 22/07/2012 08:39

Nice holiday Grin
I also like the look of that diagonal box stitch. Have some wool left over from my throw and will see if it's enough to make a cushion cover...

Daisybell1 · 22/07/2012 08:52

Well done Pidgin! I'm doing an item for our local show

Daisybell1 · 22/07/2012 08:54

Ooh, and can anyone recommend a pattern for a baby blanket? I've got a ball of blue 3 or 2 ply and no other yarn in that thickness. So has anyone got an interesting pattern for a blanket? It may need to be one of those centre-out ones as I'm not sure how much wool I've got!

SoupDragon · 22/07/2012 10:03

For information, wooden crochet hooks, plastic darning needles and some nail clippers get through security as an in flight crochet kit Smile

SoupDragon · 22/07/2012 10:04

A giant granny square may be your best bet if you don't know how far your yarn will go.

Ahoy there Hookers! Grin

My woolly wool is on the way for Mumof2 and expat's blankets, and I'm just planning my squares.

I thought I might have a go at the rose from this pattern, but apart from the fact that I've never worked from a stitch diagram and not sure I'm reading it correctly, I do not understand what "cockling both parts" can possibly mean, and a quick Google was less than enlightening. How does one cockle, please?

Daisybell1 · 22/07/2012 12:00

That's interesting Soupy :-D I'd wondered how I'd cope on holiday without any of the k-stuff-that-shalt-not-be-mentioned but crochet could be a brilliant alternative Grin

SoupDragon · 23/07/2012 00:38

I'm fairly certain "cockling" is on the list of Things You Shouldn't Google. :)

I imagine you'd get away with wooden knitting needles on a plane.

S'okay Soupy, all I got was a range of instructions on how to gather bivalves Grin

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 23/07/2012 10:07

I actually took up crochet because of a long flight - had been meaning to do it for ages and then was thinking of things to keep away the boredom on a transatlantic flight!
My hook was ok - the regular aluminium one, and I made some lovely squares on the flight that are now an attractive cushion cover!!! Was a good icebreaker with the flight attendants as it turned out a couple of them had a knitting hobby...
P.s. liking the diagonal box stitch - had a go last night and made some lovely progress. Am a little concerned about how to make the square though as the pattern I'm following, the author seems to think its a mathematical impossibility to do a square and I will end up with a rectangle - I like a challenge!!

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 23/07/2012 12:24

StuckInTheFens - I used diagonal box stitch to make a square for one of the blankets and it worked perfectly.
I'll put up a picture later on

GrapesAnatomy · 23/07/2012 16:40

Hello

Just wondered if you wonderfully lovely ladies could help me with something?

I want to make these 10 minute booties but a larger size (9 months) - any ideas how I could increase the pattern?

This is it:
