Hi me and a friend did our card stall at the school the other night. It was great fun to do and we had a glass of wine and didn't stop talking to people all night.I sold 15 cards at 1.50 each and all my packs of tags at £1 a pack. Not bad for 2 hours.I would definately do it again. We had loads of lovely compliments. Her cards were very different to mine very funky and modern with gorgeous embellishments on.Her alphabet beaded ones went down a storm.makes mental note on that for next timeNever done any of those before. She sold about 10 more cards than me but hey who's bitter? She was so apologetic it made me laugh bless her.I was just so pleased people liked mine enough to buy them. Can't wait to do another one now.Whizz you're next.Bet you really enjoy it.

Kidstack, I am sure many of us would be willing to help out. Have a lok at the gallery and see if anything takes your eye. We have yahoo email addresses shown there too.

oh well, i'm london, hope it goes well.....

Dingle · 04/11/2005 16:42

Well done Layla. Some I have done in the past have been very unpredictable. At the very small little pre-school I tend to sell much more than the larger infants school.

I used to share with my mum and have other crafty goodies to sell too.

pootlepod · 04/11/2005 19:46

Well done Layla, I wish I was as brave as you to do a stall.

Good luck for tomorrow Whizzz

UCM · 04/11/2005 20:12

Well done Layla! I am sooo glad as I am about to ring schools and ask for a stall.

It is really good that you are positive and would do it again. Plus you had a laugh which is most important.

Thanks, I think we needed that

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 08/11/2005 19:04

Quick question Re: SChool Fayres - what do you do re: costs / donation to school.

I enquired about a stall at DS school fayre & have just been rung - they don't normally do that sort of thing but she is going to speak to someone else. Yes I want to help the school but I don't want to loose money on my cards (not after the last debacle!). Do you usually offer a % of the sales ?

jayzmummy · 08/11/2005 19:05

I offer £5-£10 for the table and offer a pack of cards for the raffle/tombola.

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 08/11/2005 19:14

Thats an idea - she has just rung back - I'm going to a PTA meeting on Fri to discuss the fayre. I think a % might be better if they will accept it, that way there isn't the risk of running at a loss.

jayzmummy · 08/11/2005 19:17

whizz my very first fayre I offered a percentage....I sold loads and endede up paying more thn the £5-£10 I normally give.

If you offer 10% then you need to sell £50 worth of cards for them to have a fiver....anymore than 10% and you could end up making a loss.

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 08/11/2005 20:24

Good point - I think I'm being too negative after the Craft Fayre distaster at the weekend

Skribble · 08/11/2005 21:20

Most school fayres I have done charged £10, only one charged a percentage. I don't mind £10 as thats usually 10% off my takings anyway.

layla · 09/11/2005 14:58

Whizz,I was happy to give 10% to the PTA of my takings.I just wrote down all the cards as I sold them. How much are you going to charge per card without the jewellery on?

OP posts:
jayzmummy · 09/11/2005 15:05

whizz....just a little idea...Im doing 4 school fayres and to boost my takings I am ordering some lovely "sweet houses" that Ive seen on Skribbles site.
Sometimes you need something to attract the kiddies to your stall so they drag Mum over to have a look. You could try a lucky dip with little bags of sweets...20p a go or in my case I am going to take some of Skribbles houses to sell on.
If you can get the children flocking to look at your stuff then Mum will followand whilst little Johnnie is shoving his hand in the Lucky Dip, Mum can be having a look at your stuff.

Ive made up some Reindeer Food Stockings too so that helps to boost sales by selling not only my jewellery and cards.
HTH and good luck.

Skribble · 09/11/2005 17:58

Thast true Jayzmummy their are so many people doing cards now and people tend to give them the quick once over and walk past, nothing to make them stop and have a good look. Usually with a rather desperate looking person behind the table with huge bags under there eyes .

I would put prices on the front, people tend to assume if you they to ask don't bother its to much. At school fairs if you get the kids interested then the parents will follow, if they can tear themselves away from the mulled wine and homebaking. I am lucky that my customers are mostly the children, who tend to get given so much to spend.

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 09/11/2005 18:08

Layla - cards without jewellery on are £1 for basic ones & £2 for more time consuming ones ie funky foam etc. (I don't know how that compares with other peoples !)

Earring cards I thought £4 & necklace cards £5 - £6 dependng on what sort of necklace it is

I wondered whether to make a few gift tags for 10 or 20p ?
JM - like the idea of enticing the kids with sweets
