I truly believe it's brainwashing. Dogs are everywhere in films and TV shows, start them young on cartoons and dogs are heroic amazing creatures with human traits. It never used to be like this.
What is there to like about a stinking, slobbery, shitting beast in your home, that restricts your ability to be spontaneous, costs a fortune, and makes lots of people avoid you.

Or maybe some people just like different things to you!

Your last paragraph could equally describe a child.

Charlottewebsbabies · 09/04/2023 18:34

I know someone who's just bought one of these 'bully'(?) dogs
Right now its a pup but it will grow up
She's just got her 3 kids back after ss put them in care due to her breaking up with the kids dad,it got nasty and they both turned to drugs
She's got clean, got them back and promptly got one of these dogs
She's spashed it all over fb,with 'it's going to grow up with the kids,so it'll be fine'
It's a fucking attack waiting to happen-its going to grow up and be too big for her to walk it
But it's OK,not only will it grow up with the kids and her other dogs (2 staffs) but she'll train it not to attack-forgetting its a dog-a bloody big one at that

Ss couldn't care less

The law should be such that if a dog harms someone such that they need hospital treatment, the owner faces the same criminal charge as if they had inflicted the injury (or worse) personally themselves.

If your dog were to kill someone, you face a charge of manslaughter.

This

Bingo the child/dog comparison.

Suzi888 · 09/04/2023 18:37

I don’t mean a human inflicted the bite, I mean a human acquired the dog, ‘trained the dog’ and I lose that term loosely, they allowed the dog to be around the child (doesn’t sound like the dog belonged to the child’s family). So how did this occur exactly? The child was unsupervised at the time, with a strange animal. Any dog can bite, some dogs have a massive prey drive, aren’t used to children etc.

The answer is to make the owner accountable for the deeds of the dog. That’ll put a stop to it. That’ll stop the grinning idiots- just like the bloke whose dog attacked the horse a few threads ago.

Bleating you hate dogs is bloody pointless. You can’t ban everything you don’t like, the thread isn’t about that.

I have friends in the U.S they don’t have guns to kill pit bulls fgs. They have them for hunting and protection.

The status type dog has always attracted idiot owners and thats not going to change unfortunately. That poor kid all because someone wants to look hard when out n about with said type of dog. Thick bastards.

Goldenbear · 09/04/2023 17:26

What kind of dog is that, looks scary.

Looks like an American bulldog.

I was walking one of my dogs a few years ago and met a bloke with one. I was assured that the dog was lovely and friendly as he strained on the lead growling at my dog. Yeah, sure.

Different breeds have different behavioural traits. Breeds developed for guarding or fighting need owners willing to deal with that.

Twinstudy · 09/04/2023 18:39

TropicalTheIslandBreeze · 09/04/2023 18:37

Bingo the child/dog comparison.

Nope no bingo there I'm afraid. I don't equate dogs with children. Just that your description could be of either.

I'm sorry you misunderstood. I thought it was quite clear

Suzi888 · 09/04/2023 18:39

“and makes lots of people avoid you.” Erm nope. It makes a lot of people interact with you whether you invite it or not. I’ve been walking an American bully, he is not mine and he is a handful. People still come up. 🙄

Maverickess · 09/04/2023 18:39

Looks like yet another bully type breed. They've been bred to take down animals twice and three times their size, to do that they need to be strong, have a strong bite grip and be aggressive and tenacious. Treated badly, left to their own devices, untrained or those traits encouraged, it's not surprising that they attack people, and their size and strength mean they do a lot of damage even 'just' snapping at someone, and serious damage in a full attack.

Unfortunately that makes them attractive to those who want to look hard and intimidate people, they're not interested in the dog, they're interested in the reaction they think they get when they are in 'control' of such an animal (even though they're not) and the status of having one brings, and using the dog to get what they want from other people.

It's not just large dogs like bully breeds that are like this, but their size and strength make it so much worse when it happens, and their looks and reputation are what attracts the idiots who need an ego boost to own them in the first place.

I agree with others about owners being charged with injuries or worse that a dog causes, licencing and banning certain breeds - including anything with that breed mixed in. And I've got a spaniel and a JRT snoozing next to me at the moment, I'm a dog lover but these dogs are being turned into a menace by at best, ignorant people and at worst, people doing it intentionally.

It takes a split second for a dog to turn.

We can get things banned once public opinion is vocal enough to do so. I remember my mother actively campaigning in the seventies for smoking to be banned in public buildings. Decades later, it did happen. She was a minority back then, but people eventually caught up.

MarshaBradyo · 09/04/2023 18:41

Poor poor baby

Such a failure that this keeps happening

CheeseMcKnees · 09/04/2023 18:42

My friend was attacked by a dog as a child and required facial reconstruction surgery, they sued the owner successfully, owner destroyed the dog that day. This was back in the 90s. Owner was responsible and has safely owned dogs for the subsequent 25 years.

p.s it was a Labrador

DuesExMachina · 09/04/2023 18:42

People who equate dogs with children have a really perverted view of the world.

Dog = animal. Has a right not to suffer cruelty
Child = person with all human rights

And interpret the 'growing up with the kids so it will be fine' as the kids allowed to do what the heck they like with the pup including hugging, pulling tail and ears and climbing on it learning no respect for animals, and when the animal turns, as it inevitably will, we get the tragic consequences.

it really should be illegal to house huge bully breeds with young children.

Terrible. I hate dogs.

Same.

This makes me so so fucking angry, how many more times does this need to be happened before it is taken seriously?!

This x 1000.
I got so upset seeing that photo. Poor baby looks so much like my 7 month old my stomach flipped on first glance…

Suzi888 · 09/04/2023 18:44

@TropicalTheIslandBreeze you want to ban dogs entirely?

reddwarfgeek · 09/04/2023 18:45

Poor poor baby. Poor poor woman.
I hate dogs. It's getting worse isn't it?! What are we to do?
The area where I live is full of stupid twats with massive dogs they can't control. And when you don't love them jumping up around you and your young child, you are the actual one with the problem?
People say dogs are their children. No they aren't. They are wild animals. No dog is worth the life of a human.

Suzi888 · 09/04/2023 18:45

@Charlottewebsbabies take the dog out if it, they sound like great parents…..

DuesExMachina · 09/04/2023 18:46

Maybe SS should remove children from homes with dangerous dogs.

Might focus the minds of the idiotic owners

AlwaysGinPlease · 09/04/2023 18:47

Could you not have just put the link up rather than the photos?

userxx · 09/04/2023 18:48

@TropicalTheIslandBreeze Dramatic much.

Perhaps the reality of what these dogs can do should be shown. I do agree it's a horrific photograph.
