That poor child. Thank goodness it wasn’t any worse.
Honestly, don’t get a dog if you’re not prepared to train it and be responsible for it. What is wrong with people!?

The woman's who's daughter was killed last year by the big bull breed her partner bought for buttons is doing some sort of campaign to raise awareness. 🙄

Why people let these dogs into their family homes, I don't know. No amount of awareness can beat pig headed stupidity.

I googled this. Apparently the attack happened inside a house. The police have since seized the dog and it has beem destoyed.

Shame the owners can’t be euthanised too. And a lot of dog breeders. It all goes back to dickhead humans.

doozledog · 09/04/2023 17:38

It's the owners fault. These dogs are for status and nothing more. Most dont get looked after, socialised, or walked. Usually kept indoors and bread off.

funinthesun19 · 09/04/2023 17:43

What an ugly beast that thing is. There really is no need to breed these things. They’re not pet material and serve no purpose whatsoever apart from being a status symbol for complete dickhead morons who don’t care about the safety of people.

Mitch1965 · 09/04/2023 17:43

It is, if the person who owns the dog has insurance (household will cover it, it doesn't need to be pet insurance).

This happened to a friends daughter in the US. They sued the dog owner and got $50k which was used for plastic surgery on her daughters face until she was 10 to correct the scarring and disfigurement.

I wonder if this is possible in the U.K.?

It is, but unless there is an insurance policy for the dog that will cover it then they'll never get the money.

I seen this too when I was reading about the Nuneaton attack https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/21982618/woman-mauled-death-dog-feeding/?rec_article_amp_dpa=true.

It happened in Italy, but it was a woman mauled to death by her brothers Rottweiler who she was feeling while he was on hols.

How utterly horrific. :(

People should not be allowed to own these dogs. Enough is enough.

It's not the dogs it's unfortunately the type of people who own them!

The dog breed they pick aligns itself with status- ie. Vicious, aggressive, scum dogs for scum owners

It's both. Be a crappy shitzu owner, your dog still can't inflict this kind of damage.

Georgyporky · 09/04/2023 17:48

Poor baby. The baby & the dog were in the same house ?

They are drug dealers' dog of choice aren't they?

No it’s both. Why are people so in denial about the dog itself when this happens? Especially when it’s a dangerous breed.

Exactly.

Article actually said inside a property not inside a house as i said. Sorry. Dont know if this makes a difference. Maybe was a shop or a pub.

Fed up with this argument. Dogs that were domesticated to be compainion pets were not these powerful beasts. They need banned or restricted to very limited licensed working environments that are suitable for their needs and not in families or residental areas.

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 09/04/2023 18:04

The picture of that child is heartbreaking.

I hope her parents sue the owners - if I were them I would be off to a 'no win, no fee' person.

pickledandpuzzled · 09/04/2023 18:05

Specialist breeds should be licensed. Owning an unlicensed dog - say any dog over weight x- should be a crime.

Licenses only go to people with experience of managing large breeds.

Sue them?

They'll be feral scum with zero assets so no one will take that on.

TenTree · 09/04/2023 18:08

Dachshunds are often reported as one of the most aggressive types of dog. As a dachshund owner, I can believe it (although mine has never bitten and drawn blood or attacked unprovoked, or provoked for that matter).

That said, you rarely hear of a fatal dachshund attack (although there was one or two involved in the dog walker attack a few months ago).

Aggressive dogs aren’t even the problem. Large aggressive dogs are. And while I appreciate not all large aggressive dogs will attack, surely there are enough patterns by now that it would be better to ban them!?

We ban lots of things that are less harmful (eg cannabis) or only harmful if in the wrong hands (guns) and we all cope just fine.

AluckyEllie · 09/04/2023 18:11

I have a toddler and dog owners
very often let their dog wander over to the pushchair. I always put myself between them or move away- quite a few people get offended and snap ‘he/she’s friendly, they love kids.’
This is why I keep them apart, even if it’s a soft old golden retriever- because I don’t know the dog and if it went for my child the consequences could be horrific. I cannot believe they’ve hidden the dog. Worst sort of owners. It should immediately be put down and the owners banned from keep dogs for having one that was out of control.
