To think Auriol Grey being jailed is not appropriate.

I’m interested to hear the thoughts and reactions of others as to me given her cognitive issues and the fact she is partially blind, it just seems like such a sad accident, I can’t see why she was jailed.
I think what she did was awful, but it surely just highlights the lack of appropriate social care she clearly needed?

Not defending 'a fucking convicted killer', rather suggesting the 3 year prison sentence is excessive for what what a tragic accident.

She shouldn't have shouted and gesticulated, the cyclist should've controlled and stopped the bike.

I agree it's a stiff sentence. There are plenty of people defending the pedestrian (who regardless of sentence is a convicted killer) and blaming the cyclist, my comment wasn't aimed at you

RogersOrganismicProcess · 03/03/2023 19:47

She walked away when the cyclist lay dying. THIS action is the one which is the most difficult to understand and forgive.

Mistakes happen, they happen to aggressive arseholes and they happen to those without bad intent.

It takes someone arguably verging on evil to walk away as someone dies as a result of your ‘mistake’.

OneTC · 03/03/2023 19:48

Oh wait, yes it was directed at you

Course they can be but again it is understandable imo that a partially sighted person may be alarmed and gesticulate to a cyclist on the pavement heading their way.

So alarmed that she couldn't take one step to the side? The only thing this alarmed person could do was continue straight down the path, swearing, so the cyclist had no option but to pass her on the very edge of the road where she was nudged, accidentally or otherwise, into traffic?

That sounds more like anger than alarm to me.

Yes exactly. This is what takes it from a stupid but tragic accident to just another level. To actually see someone lying in the road bloodied and feel no sympathy or even guilt/fear for the consequences of your actions

OneTC · 03/03/2023 19:50

She showed fear when she scarpered.

To her mind I'm sure it was due the the cyclist's mistakes - the cyclist had made several after all.

And, again to her mind, she hadn't been involved in the actual accident and there was no reason for her to hang around and call an ambulance etc because the other person involved (the driver) was there.

I'm not excusing her but I can certainly understand everything she did. I'm ND.

MetalFences · 03/03/2023 19:53

Oh, did I misunderstand the circumstances of this case? Did the pedestrian push the cyclist into the road?

Well, she said she did.

bonjello · 03/03/2023 19:53

I really feel for her family. They wanted justice and people are still making out it was her fault she died.

No she didn't.

BadNomad · 03/03/2023 19:54

I'm sure people wouldn't be so forgiving if her "alarm" had caused a child on a bike to tumble into traffic and die. But a 77-year-old woman means nothing.

So basically she thought serves her right and walked off.

Yup.

It's like a weird hierarchy. Because she was disabled she gets defended!

Clymene · 03/03/2023 19:55

The only mistake Celia Ward made was cycling past Auriol Grey.

Well I certainly didn't suggest that. Is that how you think?

That wasn't even a mistake. She was completely innocent here.

Correct. She shouldn't have been on the pavement to start with and she should have given way or at least passed on the correct side.

That shouldn't result in death though.

OneTC · 03/03/2023 19:58

BrigitteBond · 03/03/2023 19:53

No she didn't.

She admitted making light contact.

No one acting reasonably makes intentional contact with a moving vehicle because it's really stupid.

I think what AG did was disgusting all she needed to do was take one step to the right or shout stop.

AlwaysGinPlease · 03/03/2023 19:58

Look at the bleeding hearts. Falling over themselves to justify, to excuse this horrific crime! What happens when she does it again? They should lock her up permanently so she can't because like I said when it's a child she does it to, you'll all be singing a very different song.

I don't think she'll do it again.

It's quite hard to sidestep a cyclist who won't give way properly. I imagine it's even harder with limited mobility and other problems.

You've made up the 'intentional' element.

OneTC · 03/03/2023 20:03

She stuck her hand out whilst the cyclist was going past. If she didn't mean to touch her she was going a really funny way about it

Sugarplumfairy65 · 03/03/2023 20:04

Moonicorn · 03/03/2023 19:26

Because she doesn’t have a disability. The judge said she has no learning difficulties or relevant mental problems.

Why is this so hard to understand?

I suppose we reached the point where an unsubstantiated mention of ‘mental health’ lets you off the hook for virtually anything quite a while ago 🤷🏼‍♀️

And by the look at the way she was walking, her CP is mild too.
