To think Auriol Grey being jailed is not appropriate.

I’m interested to hear the thoughts and reactions of others as to me given her cognitive issues and the fact she is partially blind, it just seems like such a sad accident, I can’t see why she was jailed.
I think what she did was awful, but it surely just highlights the lack of appropriate social care she clearly needed?

And fact she is clearly heard shouting "Get off the fucking pavement" just before pushing her. I think 3 years was quite lenient.

Nucon · 03/03/2023 12:17

@yentirb there's an article from the lady driving that's been released today. She's being treated for PTSD and her marriage has broken down as she's really struggled to cope

yentirb · 03/03/2023 12:18

@Nucon that's awful 😢

IClaudine · 03/03/2023 12:18

I would imagine there must have been details revealed in court that convinced the jury to convict her. I think there is more to it than the surface details in the press.

www.itv.com/watch/news/woman-jailed-for-manslaughter-after-scaring-cyclist-riding-on-pavement-into-path-of-traffic/6h4p3wq

She verbally abuses her, and it's a shame about the angle, but it looks like she's pushed her at around 14/15 seconds on the above video.

Her aggressive behaviour caused the cyclist to fall into a busy road and to her death. I think manslaughter is about right.

She didn't push her she waved her arms around and caused the cyclist to swerve into oncoming traffic . She has cerebral palsy and is partially sighted.
Assuming she realised that the cyclist had been hit by a car she should have stayed at the scene.

There is nothing to be gained from sending a disabled lady to jail for what was clearly an accident.

Accident or not, she caused it and has shown absolutely no remorse for it. I don't care if she has a disability, she had absolutely no right to behave like that. Maybe her jail time will help her reflect on her behaviour.

Of course there is- justice for the dead woman's family for a start, and for the poor woman driving the car who witnessed the cyclist die whilst Grey fucked off and did her shopping.

I'm assuming you were in the courtroom and heard all the evidence and testimony against her?

There's currently at least 1500 posts of people nicely agreeing with you in the other 2 threads btw if you want a bit of view reinforcing btw

yentirb · 03/03/2023 12:14

I watched the video she didn't push her but she did wave at her and gesture her to move and was quite close to her when she did it. This lead to the cyclist falling off her bike and into oncoming traffic

She admitted in court that she made contact with the victim.

OneTC · 03/03/2023 12:21

*not nicely, mostly

givemushypeasachance · 03/03/2023 12:22

Here's a 23 page long thread on it still actively being posted on today where every she's a monster/she's the real victim angle has already been argued to death: www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4754508-to-think-this-woman-should-not-be-put-in-prison?page=1

Her KC has said she's appealing it.

Ah, thank you for clarification.

She said herself that she made contact with the cyclist. Let's stop the narrative the she didn't.

DappledOliveGroves · 03/03/2023 12:22

This article has the CCTV footage: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-64824436

I cannot see that she made any contact with the cyclist. That pavement absolutely does not look wide enough to be any kind of shared pathway. I don't think the bike should have been on the pavement.

Fair enough - leaving the scene wasn't ideal - but I do not think the verdict was right.

Xol · 03/03/2023 12:22

Sugarplumfairy65 · 03/03/2023 12:21

She admitted in court that she made contact with the victim.

Which is not the same as pushing.

GrasstrackGirl · 03/03/2023 12:23

Didn't she lie to the police as she didn't realise that she had been caught on CCTV too?

BrigitteBond · 03/03/2023 12:23

IfYoureGonnaBreakMyHeart · 03/03/2023 12:14

Apparently it was one of those split pavements with a side for pedestrians and a side for cyclists.

It wasn't

IClaudine · 03/03/2023 12:23

Sugarplumfairy65 · 03/03/2023 12:21

She admitted in court that she made contact with the victim.

If that is the case then the right decision was made by the jury.

She probably won't serve the full three years.

The full video hasn't been made public but it would have been shown in court.

Hoistupthemainsail · 03/03/2023 12:24

soggydigestives · 03/03/2023 12:08

Well I don't think the cyclist should have been on the pavement in the first place, however, even with cognitive issues and partial blindness, pushing her into the road was wrong. I saw the video footage and even though you don't actually see the lady get run over, for that to have happened she must have realised there was pretty close oncoming traffic, and actions should have consequences.

It was a shared path.

UdoU · 03/03/2023 12:24

fairgame84 · 03/03/2023 12:07

I read that she didn't push, she gesticulated towards her and no contact was made.

From the BBC:

Ms Grey believed she had made light contact with Mrs Ward.

Considering how much slighter Celia was, even a light push from Aoriol would have had her on the ground.

GrasstrackGirl · 03/03/2023 12:25

BrigitteBond · 03/03/2023 12:23

It wasn't

The judge said it was.

Even if it wasn't, the cyclist didn't deserve to die.
