Who told workers at an immigration centre to paint over colourful artwork of cartoon characters in an immigration centre accepting children because it was too "welcoming".

How can anyone be this twisted and mean?

0021andabit · 04/07/2023 16:34

It’s disgusting. It seems that there are people who hate virtue signalling but think this is kind of pathetic performative cruelty is okay.

I think the only positive is it’s the mark of a dying government who have nothing left but pedalling hate, but it’s a tragedy that some of the world’s most vulnerable children get caught in the crossfire.

pointythings · 04/07/2023 17:07

I'd love to see one of the YABU voters on this thread defend their position. But they won't. They're cowards.

DuncinToffee · 04/07/2023 17:33

It's vile but not surprising from someone who supports the illegal migration bill.

Yesterday the HoL defeated the government on several issues with the bill and voted to insert protections for children, LGBT people and pregnant women.

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/07/2023 17:36

@0021andabit Jenrick's In-laws were holocaust survivors, so presumably asylum seeking children at one point and he has campaigned for a Holocaust memorial.

So not only is he a petty minded, cruel scumbag, he's also a virtue signaller and massive hypocrite.

He’s an utter prick. End of.

DrManhattan · 04/07/2023 17:40

How he is still allowed to be an PM is beyond me, oh wait he's a tory so the rules don't apply

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 04/07/2023 17:54

The tories have become a grotesque caricature of themselves.

Tyrionapproach · 04/07/2023 18:04

Tories are all self righteous bastards who hate the poor. They also despise creativity, warmth and joy. Jenrick is a particularly vile specimen even for a Tory though. If he could he'd put those immigrant children in a pie and flog it to his equally ghastly cronies.

AlexTfan · 04/07/2023 18:04

What a vile individual he must be. I hope karma is ready to pounce.

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/07/2023 20:46

From the Jewish Chronicle piece above:
Mr Jenrick said that the memorial, which will include an education centre, would tell a “warts-and-all” history of Britain and the Holocaust
“It will highlight the important stories of heroism but also the mistakes and missed opportunity,” he said.

@TooBigForMyBoots , It's easy to mistype something, but it does seem to be a thing. There are many threads about Harry & Megan, and there's a current one on Judy Dench.

There's a general election likely within a year.

I'm glad you highlighted it. I'd hate to think he missed out on this thread when googling himself because of my spelling mistake.Grin

I was disgusted with him back when allowed that Billionaire Tory Donor to avoid paying £££ to Tower Hamlets council because the Billionaire didn’t want the money to go to “Marxists”.

All this chat of “levelling up” and then lining the pockets of their rich mates at the expense of the most deprived.

It’s shocking he still kept a career after that.

This is especially cruel on the back of those missing children from one of those migrant hotels.

Yes, as Housing Minister he sneaked through that multi-million pound property development, against the planning authority's ruling, and at the very last minute - just before the developer / Tory donor would have been subject to paying the new community donation fee that was due to come into force hours afterwards. Surprise - same day that this news was just breaking, the Tory government released some other dramatic announcement to distract the press, and buried the story.

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/07/2023 00:37

I'm pretty inured to Tory sleaze at this point.

But Robert Jenrick goes well beyond that. The cruelty to young children and those with SEN seeking asylum is sickening. How fucking dare he use the plight of Jewish refugees to further his career when we all know what sort of reception they would have received under him.Hmm

Mistakes and missed opportunities to help those fleeing persecution and death? All this revolting man has learnt is how to use others' suffering to forward his career and get his rocks off on power over the most powerless.

My theory is that they have to pass some kind of humanity bypass test to qualify as a Home Office minister. Jenrick scales new depths.

You must mean Harry and Meghan.

Surely he doesn’t have the authority to demand that? He’s a government minister, he isn’t in the management chain of a charity. I hope they ignored him.

Exactly. Ministers don't get to say how operations are run day to day, they set policy objectuves. Just tell him to feck off. Hell be out of a job soon anyway, so happy days.

blackpear · 05/07/2023 02:06

I absolutely loathe him for this. Heartless, repellent slug.

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/07/2023 13:45

Yep.

I thought this government couldn’t go any lower but here we are. They are nasty scum and can’t wait to see them wiped out at the next election.

FavouriteDogMug · 05/07/2023 14:07

I don't think we should say it's just what we would expect from a Tory. They are individually elected. My local MP is a Tory he doesn't necessarily do a lot to help people In poverty, but he doesn't go out of his way to be mean to children.

LizzieSiddal · 05/07/2023 14:43

@FavouriteDogMug well if they supported Austerity then your MP has gone out of their way to be mean to Children. The first thing the Tory’s did was close down most of the Sure Start centres which, every bit of research showed was doing amazing work for young Dc and their family’s.

And then there’s the decimation of money going into youth services, child poverty going up etc etc etc.

Have any decent Tory MPs made a statement condemning Jenrick?

This is abhorrent. My mind actually boggles at how someone can think like that.
