..to wish Andy Murray would shut his mouth?

I know he's a brilliant player, the best we've got etc..but why does he have to celebrate every point with that hideous, square-jawed, gurning, faux wild-animal roar? There was a pic of his mother on the front page last week with exactly the same expression. Put me off my porridge.

YANBU, he is minging. And I am usually very patriotic! I just wish he was a bit more personable.

Colliecross · 30/06/2010 09:43

YANBU I don't watch him for that reason

pagwatch · 30/06/2010 09:44

But it is a matter of taste isn't it. I think Roger Federer is an arrogant self important yet ultimately boring twat....

Eye of the beholder and all that.

RunawayWife · 30/06/2010 09:46

I just cant wait for him to be beaten, smug little shit.

mumofthreesweeties · 30/06/2010 09:46

Interesting there should be a thread on Andy Murray as was just this morning thinking how much I hate his voice

tametiger · 30/06/2010 09:52

He always look to me as though he has a severe dose of dandruff - shudder.

YABVU. Bet you lot are simply shimmering with 'gorgeousness'... [rolls eyes]
Let the man play and say what he wants. When he wants it.
He has earned it.

tametiger · 30/06/2010 09:56

Roll - I for one am a-shimmer with gorgeousness and I still think AM is gross to look at.

OP posts:
Rollmops · 30/06/2010 10:05

You see, things like Ed [shivers with disgust] Balls who have single handedly destroyed the school system and are vile to look at, should regularly receive a proper bashing; Andy Murray is a great tennis player and has every right to say whatever comes to his pretty little head. So there. Hah.

TottWriter · 30/06/2010 10:06

YANBU. I don't mind him as a player, not at all because he's clearly very good, but the whole animal roar celebration does grate. I was thinking about that the other day. I know it's an utterly petty thing to dislike about someone, but hey. I don't know any of them personally, so I have to go on petty little gestures to distinguish them.

Rockbird · 30/06/2010 10:12

RunawayWife, thank you. You have saved me thew bother of typing that

mozette · 30/06/2010 10:13

Of course he is smug,he's the British number 1!

Saltire · 30/06/2010 10:17

Of course he's smug, he's Scottish and technically he it means Scotland have made into the final 8 of a tournament!
Unlike some teams I could mention

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 30/06/2010 10:23

Yes, but only at Tennis, not a PROPER sport.

tametiger · 30/06/2010 10:23

What about Culloden?
Anyway Wimbledon is a British tournament and AM is British numero uno.

OP posts:
TottWriter · 30/06/2010 10:26

Who cares about his nationality? I just hate that overly macho roar. It's so...vulgar.

Rockbird · 30/06/2010 10:33

I can't stand him, I don't care if he's Scottish or Siberian.

And he's hardly beating off the competition to be British number one. Eddie the Eagle was the British number one...

Saltire · 30/06/2010 10:34

at rockbird.

tametiger · 30/06/2010 10:38

Serves him right if he dislocates his jaw mid-roar and gets stuck like that (as my mum used to warn me).

OP posts:
BlankFrank · 30/06/2010 10:41

He's only 56% Scottish at the moment: andymurrayometer.com

suitejudyblue · 30/06/2010 10:58

Gurning, shouting, roaring whatever Andy Murray is a fantastic competitor and example of acheivemnet in his field.
I really don't get why people are so keen to slag him off, I bet he doesn't give a second's thought to whether he's British or Scottish (and the remark about England at football was a joke before you all mention it).
He's allowed to be pleased/pump himself up when he wins points, its that determination that makes him a winner.

Now, the grunting female players I'll give you YABU

tametiger · 30/06/2010 11:49

But the girly grunters at least feed the fantasies of grubby old male tennis fans. Not sure anyone fantasies about AM - not in that way.

LetThereBeRock · 30/06/2010 11:52

I can't stand him. He's so dour. Does he ever smile?

hmc · 30/06/2010 11:52

Don't know about "the best we've got": I don't care a toss whether he wins or loses - he is Scottish and I am English (decides to be chippily anti-Scottish when it comes to sporting events - to even things up a bit)
