I have just got the washing in, mostly school uniform for tomorrow as it it bloody photos, and I have had to put most of it back in the wash as it is covered and I mean covered in bird droppings .

So from now on I do not care if it is 100 degrees outside I am not putting washing out I am going to use the tumble. I can afford to and I don't really give a stuff about the melting ice caps.
Also I am going to get a saw and cut off every branch of next doors cherry tree that is so much as one inch over the dividing fence.

I am also never going to feed the birds again in the hope they all die this winter.....

Yes I know I am being unreasonable but I will now be up to gone midnight waiting for the wash to stop, then drying it then Ironing it.....

(fed up face)

Mama, we have low energy everything (thanks to DP) even the frigging tumble is an A rated one I would probably get the things dry faster by holding them above my head and streaking down the street.

I do however get pissed off with people who go on and on and on about global warming and making everyone feel guilty that we are not all starving in a 3rd world country.

I am sure the little girl in a 3rd world country that I sponsor does not give two hoots if I am using my tumble or not, as a what was it you called me, ignorant western? well as one of those and by accident of birth not to be born in to some Deli slum, I am able to help people who were, also I am blessed my children do not know what real cold or hunger are and I give thanks for this every night... but right now if you want me to step away from the tumble dryer you will have to prize it out of my cold dead hands!

mumoflittlemouse · 20/06/2010 21:56

You need to tumble only about half the amount you washed at a time for it not to be creased edam. The more you have stuffed in the tumble, the more creased it will come out and vice versa.

BaronessBomburst · 20/06/2010 21:58

My mum made me iron my own school uniforms. I remember going to school with a HUGE blister on my finger where I'd burnt myself and proudly showing everyone. Teacher didn't bat an eyelid but it was 1979. Learnt my lesson though. Haven't burnt myself since but don't iron anymore either.

PussinJimmyChoos · 20/06/2010 22:00

What makes you think I don't care about the environment - just because I think tumble drying clothes is ok?

ReneRusso · 20/06/2010 22:01

Why not get a clothes airer and just hang the stuff indoors? So no bird poo and clean conscience.

TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 20/06/2010 22:02

i do have a dull life....

mamasparkle · 20/06/2010 22:03

I didn't say you didn't care Puss...I said the OP didn't.

I do however get pissed off with people who go on and on and on about global warming and making everyone feel guilty that we are not all starving in a 3rd world country.

Sorry, I am one of those people. Perhaps we should not talk about global warming and just let all those Africans quietly die of the effects of climate change, because we don't want to upset rich Westerners and make them feel guilty now do we?

I don't have an issue with your one off use of the tumble, it's your attitude that bugs!

PussinJimmyChoos · 20/06/2010 22:05

It did seem that way Mama - re-read the post

mumoflittlemouse · 20/06/2010 22:06

hmm, so does yours frankly mama

PussinJimmyChoos · 20/06/2010 22:08

I don't actually think OP was being serious when talking about the polar ice caps - this is in AIBU after all

Mind you, if Global Warming improves the UK weather, then no doubt Runaway Wife and I will be rejoicing, while sat in our gardens with iced tea, while our sheets flap prettily in the summer breeze

honeydragon · 20/06/2010 22:08

mama sparkle the comment wasn't a dig agaisnt you are your belief it was a bit of fun at a impossible situation - the world is very old and climate change is a new science, the best way to live life is to try and do it as econimically (sic) as possible, which people on this thread appear to be doing - and like wifey's post clearly indicates - it is tongue in cheek.

Which leads to my next suggestion

we get everyone on mumsnet to all power down for 10 minutes so wifey can use her tumble dryer guilt free

PussinJimmyChoos · 20/06/2010 22:09

and there will be no bird poo as the heat will have killed the shitting feckers off

mumoflittlemouse · 20/06/2010 22:10

I'm on board with that honeydragon, in fact i'm knackered so I will power down for the night and that should cover the extra wash too.

RunawayWife · 20/06/2010 22:10

Mama you are so full of it, please stay away from my washing it has enough of it covering it already.

I was hoping for a little sarcasm in my OP.
I bet I have done and do do more then you ever have / will with regards to saving the planet, I just don't go round banging on and on about it.

So because I use a tumble dryer I an a ignorant westerner? I am also clearly trying to single handed wipe out the African nation by drying a load of washing.

I would love to stay and debate this but there is a polar bear just floated past my front room window and I am a bit peckish so I thought I would get my harpoon gun out and have a polar bear sandwich.

PussinJimmyChoos · 20/06/2010 22:12

Get him quick wifey before he shits on the uniforms as well

mamasparkle · 20/06/2010 22:15

Puss - 'simply that saying you(IE the OP) don't care about the environment and don't give a stuff about the polar ice caps is ignorant and disrespectful to people who are directly affected by climate change.'

Mumoflittlemouse - it's not uber-worthy to care about the environment, perhaps if you informed yourself about the dreadful effects of climate change on poor people then you might see that. People in the world's richest countries who cause climate change have a moral responsibility to try and help those in poorer nations IMO - there are already 150,000 extra deaths a year, many of them children, because of the effects of climate change and the rising temperatures. For example, more frequent droughts that lead to children in the world's poorest countries starving to death.

More here -webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/+/www.dfid.gov.uk/pubs/files/degrees-of-separation .pdf

It is seriously no laughing matter, I'm sorry if you think me caring about this makes me uber-worthy!

Comments like the OPs about not giving a stuff about the polar ice caps just make me mad.

RunawayWife · 20/06/2010 22:17

I am just wondering when archaeologist will dig up a fossilized tumble dryer that was clearly to blame for the Ice age...

We are a chunk of rock floating in space (I believe God put it there but I know not everyone does) this chunk of rock always has and always will have fluctuating temperatures sometimes to the extream.

I am just grateful it was not a pterodactyl that was in the tree, good old first ice age... Anyway I have decided to chop down next doors tree (when he is not looking) and start on building an ark, I will be ready

OP posts:
mamasparkle · 20/06/2010 22:18

OP, you're misunderstanding me - your use of the tumble doesn't make you ignorant but your comment does. If I am full of it - well, I wish more people were to be honest if it meant that they would take climate change more seriously.

"I bet I have done and do do more then you ever have / will with regards to saving the planet, I just don't go round banging on and on about it."

I seriously doubt it OP - your husband may have done his bit but without giving too much away about me I doubt that you have done more!

StealthPolarBear · 20/06/2010 22:18

ouch!

StealthPolarBear · 20/06/2010 22:19

You'll have to catch me first OP

RunawayWife · 20/06/2010 22:21

First off he is not my husband he is my toyboy .

Second I am sorry you have no sense of humor.

Thirdly I have just taken the wash out and it still has shit on some of it so I am now washing it for a 3rd time

And lastly I don't care what you think

OP posts:
Wanderingsheep · 20/06/2010 22:22

OP was being tongue in cheek though, Mama! She does really care otherwise she wouldn't have started a thread in AIBU!

I don't understand why one tiny person putting on the tumble dryer this once has got you so mad. She can hardly send her children to school in clothes covered in poo can she? Or soaking wet clothes! Then we'd be telling her that she was BU for giving her poor children colds.

RunawayWife · 20/06/2010 22:23

StealthPolarBear please come here so I can marinade you a bit first

OP posts:
PussinJimmyChoos · 20/06/2010 22:23

This is not a serious debate though - just a jokey thread in AIBU

Furthermore, I think us 'Westerners' do far more for Third World countries than their corrupt governments do. There are people living a wealthy, upper class lifestyle a mere 10 minutes drive from destitute people with children picking rubbish from bins in order to survive - and they turn a blind eye to it. At least we are aware of what is going on and are trying to do something about it.

We do what we can, but until this corruption stops, there is only so much that can be done. A lot more needs to be done here as well - the supermarkets like to highlight how 'green' they are, but still have shelf after shelf of excess packaging..

But Mama, can't you see that this thread was just being sardonic???!!

honeydragon · 20/06/2010 22:23

Stealth you can settle this, are you currently feeling
a- too hot?
b- too cold?
or
c- pissed off 'cos the op fucking harpooned you?
