I have just got the washing in, mostly school uniform for tomorrow as it it bloody photos, and I have had to put most of it back in the wash as it is covered and I mean covered in bird droppings .

So from now on I do not care if it is 100 degrees outside I am not putting washing out I am going to use the tumble. I can afford to and I don't really give a stuff about the melting ice caps.
Also I am going to get a saw and cut off every branch of next doors cherry tree that is so much as one inch over the dividing fence.

I am also never going to feed the birds again in the hope they all die this winter.....

Yes I know I am being unreasonable but I will now be up to gone midnight waiting for the wash to stop, then drying it then Ironing it.....

(fed up face)

getting the uniform washed and dried and ironed on time every week is a total pain in the arse isnt it?

Wanderingsheep · 20/06/2010 21:36

Mamasparkle, I think Runawaywife was joking a bit in her OP!

PussinJimmyChoos · 20/06/2010 21:36

Mama - I knit too so just gentle teasing

It isn't just Western attitudes though..DH is from a non Western country and the whole green movement is practically unheard of!

TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 20/06/2010 21:37

mamasparkle, youve just given me the best laugh of the day.

Downdog · 20/06/2010 21:37

lovely when they aren't covered in bird poo that is.

mumoflittlemouse · 20/06/2010 21:38

Bit harsh about the birds dying bit, esp if you are not using the washing line again but.........apart from that, I do not think YABU at all.

I get sick to death of pegging all the washing out outside and then finding that even after the hottest, windiest day ever, it isn't dry and has to be hung out indoors/tumbled after all. Grrr.

Also the bird poo/ bugs hitching a ride/ spiders web potential of pegging it on the line, which results in starting all over again just like you had to today.

Gah. I hate laundry full stop.

mamasparkle gawd, give her a break, she will be ironing at midnight, poor love. Sometimes it's not about saving the planet, it's about getting through the day.

And anyway we've just (finally) switched to energy saving lightbulbs .

mydoorisalwaysopen · 20/06/2010 21:38

School uniforms are in the washer now, will go in the tumble drier as soon as I get up in the morning - they absolutely will not be ironed - just folded quite brusquely. NOTHING gets ironed in my house but I always tumble dry everything so ironing is not really necessary - I imagine that the energy used by the TD is offset by the energy not used by the iron. I'm sure someone will tell me the TD uses a billion times more electricity than the iron - but it's what I tell my conscience.

Wifey - I don't drive a car,
I don't use standby on the electrics
and use electric torches
i've flown once in the last 10 years
and we only really have the heating on in our house from january to march if that (well insulated semi so nice and warm from next door- ).

Therefore I think I can safely pass my share of good eco type personess over to you to do your tumble drying without the planet melting immediaely if you use the tumble dryer - infact open the fridge and dawdle over whats inside at bit too, on me ....

Wanderingsheep · 20/06/2010 21:40

Baroness, does your next door neighbour have loads of crap in the garden waiting to go to the tip? Coz if that is the case I might just be!

I left the back door open once because it was hot, went back to go outside and walked straight into a full spider's web which was smack bang in the middle of the door frame! They make them so quickly!

RunawayWife · 20/06/2010 21:41

Mamasparkle DP is tree hugger enough for both of us

I wont tell you how much he gave to the national trust when he sold his first dotcom company, his uncle brought a wood a whole massive wood to stop developers and the whole of his family are green mad. You would not beleive the badgering I had to do to get him to get a car.

I was till I went to the states and saw the amount of waste and over use there, so when the U.S of A China and India cut down on the damage they are doing to the planet I MIGHT reconsider my tumble dryer, but most likely not.

I am sure bashing my clothes clean on a rock and hanging them over trees to dry would not make a jot of difference to anything.

You are NBU at all. I want to wipe out all pigeons. Filthy grey winged wizards of satan. I'll stuff them with their own shit until their eyes burst! So fed up with everything in the outhouse being clarted in turd!

PussinJimmyChoos · 20/06/2010 21:42

No no no!! Don't put down the cost of the school shirts or you will be told they were made by some 21 week old with no sewing machine and you should be ashamed for not making your own school shirts using hemp sacks

helmethead · 20/06/2010 21:42

Tumble drying saves ironing + i'm not having a third child so feel I've done enough to save the planet . I hate the crinkly sun dried clothes.

The tumble dryer uses MUCH less electricity in hot weather! I checked

HouseofCrazy - mine was £40 from the second-hand ads in the local freesheet.

PussinJimmyChoos · 20/06/2010 21:44

TeamEd - time spent not ironing is better spent watching New Moon Not long to go until Eclipse.....

RunawayWife · 20/06/2010 21:45

HoneyDragon I thank you.
I shall bake you a cake in my electric oven

I will still feed the birds in winter, DS2 loves watching them, I think if I put any food out now I would have to add a few imodem [sp] as the local birds clearly have the trots

OP posts:
RunawayWife · 20/06/2010 21:48

Pussin you do make me laugh .

I had enough of DS1s school sweat shirts to see DS2 to the end of primary... what did the school do...change the colour so I had to get new ones!!!!!!

I am sure bashing my clothes clean on a rock and hanging them over trees to dry would not make a jot of difference to anything.

Not if you were the only one to do it, and that's a little extreme anyway, but the attitude "what difference can I make alone?" is the wrong one and I sincerely hope you're not passing it onto your kids/other people.

Lady in the Kirtle - oh dear, you must have a pretty dull life then if my post gave you the best laugh of your day!

honeydragon · 20/06/2010 21:49

Helpful suggestions

make the school uniform out of pigeon feathers?

trap all birds in giant bio dome and use the shits methane to power lap tops?

then we can hang our clothes on the line and only get cobwebs on them and that weird orange stuff excreted from ladybirds.

PussinJimmyChoos · 20/06/2010 21:50

You bought new shirts.....you mean you didn't dye the existing ones??

BaronessBomburst · 20/06/2010 21:51

Sheep - don't know, I can't see over the fence. I'll go upstairs and try and peer out the bedroom windows.

The spiders are so prolific this year that I turned round yesterday when reversing the car and found a web spun between the headrests and 8 legs inches from my nose...... My husband told me to reverse using the wingmirrors next time.

This laptop is getting so warm have just had to put baby's muslin under it to stop it burning my legs. Should be cleaning the bathroom really. Sigh.

edam · 20/06/2010 21:54

'What difference can I make alone' is a ruddy good question though.

What I really want to know is what on earth my tumble dryer is doing wrong? All these people who say you don't need to iron after tumble drying - do you have some super-advanced machines or something? My combined washer/dryer certainly doesn't produce crisp clothes that need no ironing... (greenwash - I don't actually use the tumble dryer very often, but when I do, it's certainly not producing crease-free clothes).

mamasparkle · 20/06/2010 21:55

Honeydragon and Puss, I'm not suggesting any of these things - simply that saying you don't care about the environment and don't give a stuff about the polar ice caps is ignorant and disrespectful to people who are directly affected by climate change.

I wonder how funny you'll all find it when climate change DOES start to take its toll on people living in the West!
