I just watched the top 40 on viva tv and was absolutely shocked at the sexual content of a large majority of the videos. I am by no means a prude but the Rhianna video tia amo was really truly inappropriate for day time viewing. The girls in it are really hot but my 9 year old who sings this song would be really embarassed to watch this video. Another one was by Kesha singing " send me a dirty picture " THe Kylie video had a mountain of people in a sort of orgy. I feel like crying what the hell has happened !

You've just got old

PS I totally agree with you... and maybe I am a prude.

Onajourney · 11/06/2010 15:21

YANBU - I feel the same !

Meglet · 11/06/2010 15:23

yanbu.

But I do watch Gaga's Telephone video on youtube sometimes, albeit the clean version - and even that had me .

TheCrackFox · 11/06/2010 15:29

YANBU

I know I am as old as the hills but pop videos have got completely out of control. I would like to see age ratings as a lot of them should only really be on after the watershed.

mrsrat · 11/06/2010 15:36

D o you think there is anything we could do like lobby someone. My mind just boggles about how far they will go to try and sell a song. I would say that of the 40 videos ( I was ironing whilst watching honest ! at least 25% had really explicit content.

I felt the same when I was 25 to be honest.
I remeber writing to the BBC about something which was on TOTP

That song by Rhianna (is it rude boy?) has awful awful lyrics. Makes me wonder if she's just a puppet for some record company bloke's fantasy.

mrsrat · 11/06/2010 15:50

No I think the Rhianna song is called Ti amo. The video has her and a beautiful blonde dressed in bondage type gear getting up close. I didn't watch all of it but it really a bit too much.

YANBU - I deleted the music channels from my Freeview a couple of years ago when that "Call On Me" video came out, I don't want my daughter watching that! Even Miley Cyrus has gone down that route now...

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/06/2010 16:15

I totally agree. You should have seen my jaw muscles quilt with quivering disapproval a couple of weeks back when saw that lady gaga video.

Lol at us all though. And 'pop videos' - the use of that phrase pigeonholes us as old timers.

Next we will be calling the Top 40 the Hit Parade like our grans.

whiteliesaregoodlies · 11/06/2010 16:43

Me too. Our "family friendly" gym likes to have the music channel videos on in the workout area and the cafe, and I swear I blush at some of them.

My mum still calls it the hit parade though - and refers to songs as someone's "latest number"!

TakeLovingChances · 11/06/2010 16:51

YANBU!

OrientCalf · 11/06/2010 16:53

I am 25 and yanbu

OrientCalf · 11/06/2010 16:54

frankly though at 25 I'm probably too old to be in their target market

LostArtofKeepingASecret · 11/06/2010 16:57

YANBU. I usually only watch MTV2 and Kerrang channels where the video are generally ok, but my DD wanted to to watch some chart stuff. I was at some of them. I'm surprised that they are not rated like films, I'm sure if some of the scenes where on tv they wouldn't be shown until after the watershed.

at hit parade.

HerBeatitude · 11/06/2010 16:57

It's not just that we've got old.

It's that the porn culture has infiltrated so many areas of our lives and is particularly prevalent in anything being marketed to young people. Their minds and attitudes are more open and less experienced, adn they are being groomed to accept that sexual display along the lines of what powerful men want, is the norm.

I fucking hate X Factor and Britain's got talent - family viewing with dancers dressed like hookers being presented to my children as acceptable entertainment.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 11/06/2010 16:58

YANBU

It's part of the insidious pornification of our culture

< puts bonnet full of bees firmly on head >

Jamieandhismagictorch · 11/06/2010 17:00

I agree HerBeatitude, unsurprisingly

And you can't even understand half the words to the songs in the Hit Parade

HerBeatitude · 11/06/2010 17:01

In my day, they had proper tunes.

Oh wait, it was the Sex Pistols.

AllarmBells · 11/06/2010 17:02

YANBU. If you lobby someone I'm right with you.

I see it as adult-only viewing for when DD has gone to bed. Such a shame there can't be two Charts (or Hit Parades or whatever they call them ) - a family one, and an adult one for Lady Gaga to push the boundaries of performance art or whatever. I'm dreading when DD's friends are into it and we have to start looking at what we can allow her to watch.

I do love Lady Gaga and I like the Bad Romance video, but it's no way suitable for under 18s. Apart from the lapdancing and the weird sexy outfits, DD (5) would be traumatised by the boob shooting and the charred man, and possibly the emerging from a cocoon bits too.

And it has been going on for a long time - can't remember how old Christina Aguilera's Dirrrty is, but that's like hard porn. And which was the one - again a good few yers ago - where Kylie was doing things like a hooker in a lorry? Absolutely vile.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 11/06/2010 17:03

I wonder if it should be part of the "let girls be girls" campaign

seimum · 11/06/2010 17:07

They are definitely porn. DH had to have 'chat' a few weeks ago with DS (age 12)caught w.... in front of them

pagwatch · 11/06/2010 17:07

i wouldn't even mind if the content were just rude.
It is that the content is helpless, hapless young women rolling around pouty and legs akimbo in the hope that some seedy looking twat may pick them as the one he wants to shag.
Often this is the case even when the woman is the star of the vid..

the presentation of the need to be attractive enough, porny enough, willing enough to just get some alpha bloke to look at you is terrible.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 11/06/2010 17:07

helloooo pag
