I just watched the top 40 on viva tv and was absolutely shocked at the sexual content of a large majority of the videos. I am by no means a prude but the Rhianna video tia amo was really truly inappropriate for day time viewing. The girls in it are really hot but my 9 year old who sings this song would be really embarassed to watch this video. Another one was by Kesha singing " send me a dirty picture " THe Kylie video had a mountain of people in a sort of orgy. I feel like crying what the hell has happened !

If I had girls I know I'd worry about this - this idea of women being sexually available and adventurous for any old twat with his arse hanging out of his trousers. But it's all right, because it's post-feminist (or something)

pagwatch · 11/06/2010 17:11

at Jamie

Jamieandhismagictorch · 11/06/2010 17:15

Yeers - strange choice of words to describe said man. Germain Greer would have something to say about the word twat being used as an insult

lazarusb · 11/06/2010 17:16

I was scared when my ds1 got to 12, but then luckily, he decided to like the music I was listening to when I was young (so long ago..). Which was great till my cds started disappearing!

pagwatch · 11/06/2010 17:18

Arn't we are allowed to use twat as we have reclaimed it in feminist manner?

If not, I like cock monkey

Jamieandhismagictorch · 11/06/2010 17:29

or piss-stained shitster

SirBoobAlot · 11/06/2010 17:35

Anal pixie?

Jamieandhismagictorch · 11/06/2010 17:37

this could run and run ....

grapeandlemon · 11/06/2010 17:42

I totally agree.

I saw a Justin Timberlake/ Fiddy cent offering at the gym recently and was absolutely disgusted. It was set in some kind of brothel and they were looking up Women's skirts as they bent over to serve them drinks. and that was the tame part. Actually. I will post it so you can tell me if I am overreacting. It is just filth and I wanted to complain but who too?

I learnt yesterday that there is no age limit on Nuts and Zoo!!!! Therefore my 9 yr old could buy it legally.

I used to love 'The Box' - it had funny videos (blink 182) and vids for the mums (5ive) etc. Then i just got fed up with seeing women's arses in the air wiggling and gyrating. Just so so boring and dull...

Jamieandhismagictorch · 11/06/2010 17:51

You aren't over-reacting. It's a good song, good video even, but it shouldn't be on YouTube

shockers · 11/06/2010 18:03

We had a class party just before half term. The children are yr4 (8-9). I had to tell one of the girls that there was no way she would win a prize unless she calmed down her sexy dancing... the others were doing it too, but this girl was rubbing her chest and crotch as she writhed around .

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 11/06/2010 18:08

I'm frequently at the vids shown at my gym; not sure what channel but I hope it's not one available to all ages.

Of the worst I've seen, one portrayed a group of doll-line women in short gingham waitress uniforms, making cakes in some kind of production line bakery (no idea what the song was as I always forget my earphones like a true old gimmer) - many 'jokes' with buns and cherries. Bad enough, but then further depths were plumbed when - you guessed it - they got down and dirty big style with the squirty cream.

In the other one a girl was doing much writhing beneath spraying water, interspersed with shots of a hunk doing his manly posturing/singing bit. As it got towards the end, we had shots of him actually dry-humping her against the wall!

I agree it's not that we're getting older, the boundaries are just constantly being pushed as the record company execs try to make these samey recordings edgy and different from every other bloody samey bland dance track.

And I remember being shocked during my last phase of gym attendance 10 years ago (yes I only see these vids in the gym, which I don't attend often) - but then it was mainly a matter of scanty clothes and a bit of writhing on satin sheets; seems innocent now.

grapeandlemon · 11/06/2010 18:08

yes I really like the music. It is just not appropriate to play at a family gym in the cafe, and the message it send out is actually really awful.

Cretaceous · 11/06/2010 18:12

Love Jamie's expression "insidious pornification" of our culture. Hadn't heard that before, but it's very apt. We are so used to all these images, that we don't notice as they become increasingly lewd, increment by tiny increment.

Surely there's a Facebook campaign about this . If not, there should be...

WillowM2B · 11/06/2010 18:26

I'm usually too busy salivating over admiring Justin Timberlake to notice what goes on in the videos but that one you linked to grapeandlemon is particularly err...sordid, and I've not really noticed it before.

Though as Cretaceous says, maybe I am so used to these images that have crept on the scene that the content is less noticable.

I am becoming increasingly pissed off with Miley bloody Cyrus attempting "raunchy" - totally, totally inappropriate seeing as so many young girls (mine included) are fans.

WoofyWifey · 11/06/2010 19:01

YANBU and I agree that BGT is totally unsuitable for family viewing too if they are going to let women parade themselves half naked in the name of entertainment. It's a joke. But anything that sells, spins money, brainwashes and appeases the nation is okay. It keeps the masses quiet and distracted. I'm glad to read I am not in the minority thinking it's getting out of control

grapeandlemon · 11/06/2010 19:07

OurLady I know the one you mean! It was called babycakes.

cordelia28 · 11/06/2010 19:11

Yanbu it really really concerns me is there anything we can do about it? What about those petitions you can do online to the government- one for age ratings on Music videos. It's everywhere though infiltrated into everyday life even kids tv something HAS to be done!

Thandeka · 11/06/2010 19:12

Seriously a mumsnet campaign on this would be awesome, I work in young peoples sexual health and see first hand the effects these vids can have. Please please let's campaign!

grapeandlemon · 11/06/2010 19:17

I would be up for contributing to a campaign in any way I can. I remember when I was "young" the George Micheal video "I want your sex" was only shown after a certain time. Really showing my age there...

That video would be really tame now, just a Woman in her underwear. Now they are practically naked bending over whilst guys rub off all over them and this is considered daytime TV.

Thandeka · 11/06/2010 19:20

It's not just the videos though it's the lyrics too, Asher Roth song I love college advising putting two condoms on, other songs about wanting to bends girls over or shake their asses. Due to my profession I defo ain't a prude but this stuff really winds me up!

BertieBotts · 11/06/2010 19:24

Just adding my voice of agreement!

WellMeantHellBent · 11/06/2010 19:41

I think, as with everything, if you don't want your kids to watch something you don't have it on. I don't think this is a recent thing, I remember some really dodgy Take That videos when I was younger, although I agree that they are becoming more normalised in music videos, but I have the radio on if I want to listen to music at home with DC's there.

DP was a 12 year old boy once and he would wank over anything so I'm not sure you can say something is porn because of that!
