Today, at my local hospital (I was there to see consultant) after being passed around from room to room, because of much confusion about why I had been referred there - a midwife and I (who was the MW who looked after me in my 1st pg) were discussing my nephew, who last summer was born with a very rare condition.

She was asking about how he was getting on with treatments, how he was progressing developmentally and what his physical problems were, when I heard a fellow patient (who was hugely pregnant) sitting opposite me turn to her friend/mother and say "huh, would have been better for everyone if that'd ended in miscarriage"

I turned, growled, and said "If you haven't got any thing nice to say, shut your face"

luckily my name was then called and I scuttled away to my appointment...

Well, was i? My DP seems to think I should have ignored her, and her ignorance.

YANBU

What a horrible thing to say. You were quite right to defend your nephew.

pjmama · 27/05/2010 19:34

Cheeky bitch!??! Unbelievable that anyone would say something like that at all. Even more unbelievable that they'd do it whilst chipping in on a stranger's conversation.

Good for you for not letting her get away with it!

DetectivePotato · 27/05/2010 19:34

YANBU, I think you were remarkably restrained. No idea what I would have said, not a lot, I'm a wimp. But good on you for pointing out that what she said was totally out of order.

Stupid fucking bitch. Cannot believe some people are actually like this.

happycopter · 27/05/2010 19:35

Jesus Christ on a horse-drawn apple cart. What an incredible thing to say.

I'd have wanted to smack her. And I think you showed remarkable restraint.

cfc · 27/05/2010 19:36

Stupid ignorant cow. I hope she squirmed the rest of her time there.

fireupthequattro · 27/05/2010 19:36

hmmm what an appalling thing to say. I'd have said I hope you don't believe in karma, because you don't know what's going to pop out of your flaps, especially with an odious mother like you.

and tried to waddle off with head held high...

Hope your nephew is doing well. Sounds like a lovely MW.

jenduff · 27/05/2010 19:36

What a vile woman she was - good for you for standing up to her

TheCrackFox · 27/05/2010 19:37

What a cow, she got off lightly.

TakeLovingChances · 27/05/2010 19:38

YA100%NBU! I am in that someone could be so mean about your DN, a poor little child who didn't ask to be born with that condition.

Whatever happened to compassion

Well done you for tell her to shut her beak. She is a total cheeky bitch.

DetectivePotato · 27/05/2010 19:38

"pop out of your flaps, "PMSL"

prettyfly1 · 27/05/2010 19:39

YANBU I would have said far worse. grrrrr.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 27/05/2010 19:40

Yes I hope karma doesnt come to bite her in the arse.

What an incredibly rude woman... wait no.. too tame. Fucking bitch is much more appropriate.

OnlyWantsOne · 27/05/2010 19:40

rofl @ pop out of your flaps!!

I was really cross actually, and when leaving my appt made a big point of strutting back into waiting room and puffing my already puffed chest out - she had gone...

SoupDragon · 27/05/2010 19:41

Holy crap there are some nasty, ignorant people out there. You were right to tell her to shut up.

ChocolatePants · 27/05/2010 19:47

YANBU at all. What a twat, to say something like that.

Firawla · 27/05/2010 19:54

OMG! I cant believe she was so rude and horrible, I think yanbu @ all she got off very lightly, many people would have said much worse to her. She shouldn't be ignored it gives a license to continue her attitude

OnlyWantsOne · 27/05/2010 20:00

Snobear4000 · 27/05/2010 20:02

Perhaps you should have offered, "your dad should have settled for a blowjob".

I would have tried to stay calm, and said, "yes, you're probably right, it would have been for the best", and then talked about a range of things, including the cost of public parking spaces at the hospital, and how much you still have to pay on your car loan and such, until she tells you which make and colour of car she has in the hospital car park, and then gone and keyed the fucking thing and ground some fresh shit under the doorhandles.

Or summit like that.

fireupthequattro · 27/05/2010 20:03

Snobear4000 - are you for hire?

SirBoobAlot · 27/05/2010 20:08

What a total bitch YADNBU. Cow.

CharlieBoo · 27/05/2010 20:13

Cheeky biatch!!! How dare she!!! You did right telling her to shut her gob up! I hope she squirmed with embarrasment.

Pmsl at 'pop out of your flaps!'. Love it hahaha.

NiandraLaDes · 27/05/2010 20:19

YANBU. Not even a tiny bit. Fair play to you. It's incredible how rude and insensitive people can be, what a hateful bitch she is.

Oh, and Snobear4000 - fantastic!!
