To be shocked by the nasty bullying style of some of the threads on MN.

Having just read the thread about whether or not we should be ok about male nusery workers taking DDs to the toilet I have to say I am completely shocked at the aggressive, bullying comments that the poor OP received. FWIW I agree that we should not discriminate against males working in childcare but think that a lot of the battering comments were frankly out of order! As I read the thread I had that sick feeling that I recognised from my schooldays when I witnessed someone being bullied! I'm new to MN and have found a lot of the info and threads helpful but am so disappointed that, instead of finding a source that I had hoped would be non-judgemental and supportive, I have just connected myself to more of that cynical nastiness that I am so fed-up with on fb and in the media!

The irony!

RunawayWife · 26/05/2010 15:12

/reports post

WombFrootShoot · 26/05/2010 15:15

funnys - BabyAmy thread was one of the best for quite a while.

As a newbie, have you had a chance to look at "Classics" yet? There's one in there with a quite brilliant troll called Extended. (Thread title was something like "Uninvited groping")

Check it out sometime, it will make you laugh.

Sounds very like ds8. We have been with Camhs for four years and keep getting sent away. I have been fighting for a diagnosis since he was two.

He has ADHD,AS traits, ODD, and an IQ well in excess of 200.

He started ticcing at about six, with new ones every week or so. We don't do the swearing yet but we do have lots of very odd noises.

They put most of his behaviour down to high IQ, but I am not convinced. I think they do this to deny any services to him.

I worked in mental health field myself and see lots of things that make me

Thanks for the offer.

RunawayWife · 26/05/2010 15:24

Does he have an LSA at school and a statement I know how hard the fight can be.
200 IQ wow I bet you are exhausted trying to field the endless questions, I know when DS1 was younger I was.

As he was my first child I sort of assumed all 4 year olds could read , write and do long division the way he could, school was like running in to a brick wall.

His first tic was a head flick followed by a head flick and a squeak, then a finger clicking was added and now we have a fantastic array of things.

So far he is not and hopefully he never will be medicated, as long as he feels he is coping then people around him will need to adapt to him not he to them, just because DS1 does not fit in the the box society says he should does not mean he can not design his own box and society conform to that.

Did you say DS8 8 OR WAS THAT A TYPO OF IS HE 8?

Morloth · 26/05/2010 15:28

I have changed my mind about threads about threads - don't hate it now.

But for the love of god, link the thread you are a bitching about and possibly put a link in that thread to the new one so we all know WTF everyone is talking about.

funnysinthegarden · 26/05/2010 15:29

WFS thanks I will check out classic threads.

Anyhoo, am off to report this thread. I am not a newbie, I have lurked for 5 years..........

nobodyisasomebody · 26/05/2010 15:32

It was a typo. He is 8 and an only child. Hmm wonder why?

Yes I thought it normal for two year olds to do maths and read by themselves.

Yes I am exhausted with the questions. He is a very busy little boy and has all sorts of independent projects going on that he is interested in.

He has no help at school, is not statemented as all his diagnosis are listed as "Traits associated with his iq" He has lots of tics but they are unsure if it is ts or nervous energy as he does not sleep much. Quite a thing to see and very tiring to watch.

RunawayWife · 26/05/2010 15:35

I think this thread is unreasonable, the OP posted then went off
look

RunawayWife · 26/05/2010 15:39

Have the school never thought of getting him a one to one LSA????
DS1 had one and she was a God send.
I know some times it is like hitting your head off a brick wall.
He started talking by 10 months and by 18 months it was like having a convocation with an adult, the school at first said his "problems" were because he was too advanced then they thought he was ADHD and he saw endless child psychologist before that was ruled out, it was a long up hill trek but we got there in the end, and to us he is just DS1.

BritFish · 26/05/2010 15:43

whats the BabyAmy thread? sounds intruiging... link!

nobodyisasomebody · 26/05/2010 15:46

They can't I think because he has no statement and he is quite happy to do the work set there, although he adapts it to a much higher level for himself and is given harder work.

He does work of his own choosing when he gets home so they see no problem with him.

Tbh I think schools are crap at dealing with very intelligent children so the parents pick up the pieces once they get home, hence the problems we have been having with him.

He studies phycics and maths among other things, but is still a little boy.

RunawayWife · 26/05/2010 15:51

Nobody are you my long lost twin????

I think you need to push the school to asses him for a statement and not take no for an answer

Jamiki · 26/05/2010 15:54

just 'numptie' ol me here having trouble finding classic threads. Where is it hiding, please tell???

Oblomov · 26/05/2010 15:57

OP, you don't seem to know what bullying is.
I don't think bullying has gone on, on the thread you mention.
And there wasn't any on the Little Amy thread either.
God that one was good

kittywise · 26/05/2010 15:57

littlemrshappy. I don't think the style of MN is right for you. You seem to get offended and upset easily. This is not a place to be thin skinned!

RunawayWife · 26/05/2010 15:59

Points to netmums..... here you go hun

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 26/05/2010 16:01

RunawayWife · 26/05/2010 16:01

Wonders why chickens have no eyebrows?

Hullygully · 26/05/2010 16:03

They have shaved them off. They don't have lips either, do they Chicken?

kittywise · 26/05/2010 16:04

I can't stand people who post on AIBU then throw a hissy fit when no one agrees with them and ask for threads to be deleted. No bloody backbone.
Sometimes you post on here and you get trounced. It's happened to me plenty of times. So? I've never once considered asking for a thread to be pulled.

I hate it when threads get deleted because someone has complained. Show some balls and stand and fight.

I love threads about threads, nothing wrong with them, always good for a bun fight.
