To be shocked by the nasty bullying style of some of the threads on MN.

Having just read the thread about whether or not we should be ok about male nusery workers taking DDs to the toilet I have to say I am completely shocked at the aggressive, bullying comments that the poor OP received. FWIW I agree that we should not discriminate against males working in childcare but think that a lot of the battering comments were frankly out of order! As I read the thread I had that sick feeling that I recognised from my schooldays when I witnessed someone being bullied! I'm new to MN and have found a lot of the info and threads helpful but am so disappointed that, instead of finding a source that I had hoped would be non-judgemental and supportive, I have just connected myself to more of that cynical nastiness that I am so fed-up with on fb and in the media!

OP posts:

Fran, its not in the English dictionary, it must be a Scottish word my family use.

Also was their any need for that! That is exactly people get fed up in here, its rude! and not AIBU!

WombFrootShoot · 26/05/2010 12:19

Here we go..

Hullygully · 26/05/2010 12:21

Oh deary me.

"Compilable" isn't a proper word. It was a little joke because it sounds like a version of "compile."

I think you meant "compliant," although that would be slightly odd as it would suggest that they were eager to do comply with your wishes ie "biddable."

Ne'er matter. Perhaps you take things a little too seriously LMH? Perhaps you aren't really very H after all?

squeaver · 26/05/2010 12:22

Personally I love a thread about a thread.

But a thread about a thread about a thread is even better.

skihorse · 26/05/2010 12:22

If there is "no bullying" on mn - then why are there threads like this every week?

As the great Aislene Horace-Morgan once said "know yourself little girl".

FranSanDisco · 26/05/2010 12:23

No it's not Scottish as DH never uses it. Now are you bullying me??

Hullygully · 26/05/2010 12:23

I hope she wasn't advocating onanism? I always had my suspicions about that Aislene.

WombFrootShoot · 26/05/2010 12:24

Compliable is a wurd

Hullygully · 26/05/2010 12:24

STOP!

Stop this who's a bully nonsense at once you lilylivered knicker elastics.

LittleMrsHappy · 26/05/2010 12:24

As I said it not in the dictionary, but as home we use it all the time, piece (sandwich) ginger (pop) compilant (they considered you) I must remember on MN, that we all must not use correct words

Hullygully · 26/05/2010 12:25

So is intangible. And even dissonance.

muddleduck · 26/05/2010 12:26

play nicely or I will send you all to your rooms.

I DON'T CARE WHO STARTED IT!
YOU ARE ALL OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER!

(especially Hully who is REALLY old)

Callisto · 26/05/2010 12:26

Wow, I've just seen some of the posts on the other thread. There is a really nasty tone to it from the start. It's like a lynch mob decended on the poor OP.

werewolf · 26/05/2010 12:26

Risible.

WombFrootShoot · 26/05/2010 12:27

Cheshunt is a place

Hullygully · 26/05/2010 12:27

And still doesn't have a blue dress. But has got a purple one wot her dsis gave her.

LittleMrsHappy · 26/05/2010 12:27

Yes Fran, just because your dh never uses it, it must make it soo........

muddleduck · 26/05/2010 12:28

but "rising to the bait" is a phrase

Hullygully · 26/05/2010 12:29

LMH. I am afraid that I simply don't believe you. Are you saying that in your house you say "compilant" to mean "they considered you"? Really really really?

If so, like Wow! And where do you live?

FranSanDisco · 26/05/2010 12:29

Sorry LMH. I thought you had acknowledged a spelling error and therefore was having a (bad) joke with you. I am easily amused and very childish and humbly apologise . Please feel free to point out all my spelling and vocab errors - it's fair play and all that. DH is Scots and I know they have their own 'dictionary' which I love may I hastely (sp?) add.

Hullygully · 26/05/2010 12:29

And can I come round for a piece and a ginger?

What other words have you got?

muddleduck · 26/05/2010 12:29

oh FGS buy the one from fat face with the extra bit on the front.

UndomesticHousewife · 26/05/2010 12:30

Mumsnet never used to be like this. I have been on here for years since dd1 was little (she is now 10), AIBU didn't exist.
There are so many 'rules' that people make up as they go along because it doesn't suit them.

I was 'told off' on another thread the other day because I hadn't read all 900+ posts before posting because my post could have already been said.

The tone of Mumsnet has changed so much, people come on here asking for advice about various aspects of their lives and shouldn't expect to be bullied in the process.

Mermaidspam · 26/05/2010 12:30

FFS (not you, OP)

thumbwitch · 26/05/2010 12:30

But it isn't a lynch mob! They thought she was being unreasonable and they said so - that's what happens! No one called her rude names or took the piss out of her, although some people were a bit about her automatic fears of male workers.

I agree that there is bullying on MN sometimes - but I don't think it is always justified to shout "bullying" when it is just strong disagreement.
