Fruit shoots are evil............

So I never buy the things, but yesterday all children were thirsty and I hadn't prepared by taking water. Anyway the shop I chose to go in ONLY had fruit shoots with a good lid thingy, no water, no juice, no milkshake....NO alternative.

Now my dcs didn't go crazy with the mythical sugar rush......but dc4 has just found one that he must have thrown under something and squeezed it all over my lounge carpet. EVIL EVIL THINGS!!!

I'm sorry, I'm not a fruit shoot fan, but I also cant stand hearing the argument that having cordial in water is terrible because you have to work to filter the water out of it. Actually, if you made a glass up with 5 parts water, 2 parts juice, that will hydrate you MUCH faster than plain water.

It's about water potential being the same as your body's tissue fluid so that it is easily absorbed. That's why people made a science out of isotonic drinks.

If you don't like it because sugar rots your kids teeth etc... fine. But there is loads of sugar in fruit, and I assume you don't ban that?

Personally, I'd steer clear of the ones with no sugar, because they tend to have loads of E numbers, and I'm much more concerned about the amount of chemicals DCs ingest than I am about a bit of sugar!!

ta posie

very brave to come back, assume you plugged the hole and your children aren't drowning in a sea of sausage rolls.

i'm off to buy that stain remover

do you think it will remove dr pepper from the dog if i spill it on her again - one wonders?

thesunshinesbrightly · 26/05/2010 20:13

LadyintheRadiator

Thought not,you poor thing.

Try moving your ass, might work your brain abit harder.

Good luck.

Ihatepink · 26/05/2010 20:19

The thing is that is the only thing my OH nieces drink. When they come round they bring some with them - of course my LO wants some! Horrible and she also realises that I've watered it down - so can't do that!

BigF - Use a water bottle with the pop up top for the experiment (homework) - I think its the bottle cap they are wanting not the specific type of bottle.

fortyplus · 26/05/2010 20:49

Give it another few years and you won't be worrying about Fruit Shoots - the kids will have started on the Bacardi Breezers!

It's so funny when you've got teenagers and you see other parents being as paranoid as you were!

OracleOfDelphinium · 26/05/2010 20:56

LadyintheRadiator, I'm so glad you said that. It was really bugging me too.

thesunshinesbrightly · 26/05/2010 21:22

wot so if i write lk ths then it wud really bug ya. mite get a wle pg out u sdo's,wiv nthin beta 2 do.xxxxxx

OracleOfDelphinium · 26/05/2010 22:18

Sorry, dear, you lost me with 'mite get a wle pg out u sdo's' (though I am quite sure the apostrophe in sdo's doesn't belong there, whatever that combination of letters is supposed to represent).

'Might get a wheel peg out, you pseudos', perhaps?

I think Fruit Shoots are the work of the devil, but misplaced apostrophes are definitely even worse.

OracleOfDelphinium

Are they, you think's doe's you, how's that for you, you likey...........!!! or maybe ????? Hmmm, have'nt quite's decided yet.

OracleOfDelphinium · 26/05/2010 22:55

indeed, s'uns'hine.

BoffinMum · 26/05/2010 23:19

I am such a bad mother my children drink Aldi Fruity Shots which are apparently the poor cousins of Fruit Shoots.

So shoot me.

Gin4495 · 26/05/2010 23:22

I don't like fruit shoots and other such drinks. They contain aspartame, which is linked to kidney failure and cancer (I believe). This worries me greatly so avoid it at all costs.

fuzzypicklehead · 27/05/2010 09:11

What about those Fruit Shoot 100% drinks? I saw them at a little boy's birthday party and the kids were all slurping them down. Same bottle top but lable says 100% juice, no added sugars or artifical sweeteners.

I'm guessing they're still not fun to get out of carpet though. Would that make them the antichrist or one of his lesser minions?

whomovedmychocolate · 27/05/2010 09:59

I bought fruitshoots once for the urchins. Not because of the crap in them, because they decided, in a cafe, that they were not for drinking, they were for firing at each other supersoaker stylee after the first slurp!

BoffinMum · 27/05/2010 21:47

Um
not drinking is also linked to kidney failure

outnumbered2to1 · 27/05/2010 22:00

my Ds's are banned from any fruit shoots but the purple ones in particular seemed to leave them tuned to the moon.

I actually gave my nephew two deliberatley when his dad (my darling brother) was almost 4 hours late to pick him up after a overnight stay and i was on my very last nerve cos he is bloody hard work (just plain rude most of the time and does what he likes the rest of the time and always always it's never him when something gets broken or someone starts crying).

Aparently it was almost 2am when he finally calmed down enough to go to sleep.....

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 28/05/2010 09:09

Seriously evil, outnumbered! But I might well have done the same thing.

Bit harsh, but I agree with the basic point.
It's just fruit squash in a handy little bottle that doesn't spill. We 70s children grew up on the stuff.
It's not the end of the world. Pure juice is also bad for teeth and GI. Get over it, people.
