Family outings to crowded supermarkets.

AIBU To think that one parent should stay at home with the babies/children whilst the other parent does the weekly shop.I understand this cannot be helped in single parent families, but there were lots of whole family units in supermarket this afternoon. My two dc stayed at home with dh,I don't understand why others don't do this. One family I know who I saw there today dd3 was screaming the place down, she obviously had better things to be doing than shopping.Unfair on kids, fellow shoppers etc.

YABU - None of your beeswax tbh, was every child there screaming or just the ones with two parents with them?

McDreamy · 08/05/2010 17:36

YABU nuff said

dizzydixies · 08/05/2010 17:37

oh fuck off for crying out loud SERIOUSLY!?!? this is what you have to worry about on a sodding May weekend????

get a life ffs

my dh is away with all 3 dd's as I'm just out of hospital and although he didn't want to leave me we had no choice as we NEED stuff today - can't wait on home delivery and I'm not capable of looking after all 3 on my own at the minute

seriously, give people a fecking break and find something better to fecking worry about

upahill · 08/05/2010 17:37

The family that shops together stays together??

wahwah · 08/05/2010 17:38

Yes, exclude families from real life just in case
a child is tired and bothers anyone!

What about those bloody old people walking slowly round the supermarket?
Ban the indecisive twenty year old shoppers!
Yabu.

thumbwitch · 08/05/2010 17:39

I must admit I could never understand why some families used bank holidays to go to the supermarket - it seemed most peculiar.

YAprobably BU - you don't know the circumstances, they might be on their way to/from somewhere else; one parent might have refused pointblank to be left with 3 DC at home while the other one swanned off to the supermarket - you just don't know.

But - before I had DC, I would have agreed with you wholeheartedly. Since having DS (only one so not a major problem and he likes supermarkets) I can see why it becomes a family trip sometimes.

5inthebed · 08/05/2010 17:42

So shop when the kids will be in bed then

Trikken · 08/05/2010 17:42

I cant drive, and so dh has to drive me everywhere. tbh I wouldnt trust him to get what we needed every week (even with a list) and to be really boring I do actually like food shopping. children are 4 (actually 4 on wed) and nearly six months so cant be left at home on their own. so YABU.

ArsMamatoria · 08/05/2010 17:45

YABU. It made a shit job better to have someone to share it with.

Don't be such a sourpuss.

darkandstormy · 08/05/2010 17:46

I honestly do not understand my two dc went to the swings with dh and I went supermarket, why would kids want to be dragged around the supermarket anyway. As I said of course in some instances this can't be helped.Just do not understand why the dh can't mind the kids or vice versa.Seems like madness to me tbh.

TheArmadillo · 08/05/2010 17:47

YABU

I went today with Dh, ds and MIL

-MIL drove us as we don't have a car (she did her shopping as well).

-I am ill and can't be left on my own at home as a result. I also can't cope with doing the shopping by myself. So dh has to do it and I tag along.

-ds is 5yo and so can't be left at home alone and so came along to.

Even if none of this was the case wtf can't we all go shopping together if we want to.

Might gather some more friends/relations next time and make it a big group trip

ooojimaflip · 08/05/2010 17:47

Do it online. This is the answer to all Supermarket complaints.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/05/2010 17:47

(you ok dizzydixie? I've been wondering where you are)

dizzydixies · 08/05/2010 17:50

and when I'm not ill I work the days that DH is off and vice versa

not everyone has the privilage of a DH who is off at the same time to amuse children whilst simple tasks are done

get over yourself and if YOU don't like it then either get YOUR stuff delivered or go at night

dizzydixies · 08/05/2010 17:52

hi kitten, sorry haven't been posting been lurking but the OP managed to hit a nerve and annoy me enough to make me angry enough to post

I lost the baby on Wed so was in hosp hope you're doing ok

darkandstormy · 08/05/2010 17:52

As I have said I know there are lots of different circumstances, but some of the families I know and there are not those circumstances.OOJI I said message to self next time onlineI used to tbh , sometimes you just wanna browse, think I picked the wrong time tho.

withorwithoutyou · 08/05/2010 17:57

Because you don't run the world?

HTH.

darkandstormy · 08/05/2010 17:59

Whoops I seem to have rattled a few cages.Did not mean to.

OP posts:
compo · 08/05/2010 17:59

Because they're all on the way back from somewhere like cinema, out for lunch etc

traceybath · 08/05/2010 17:59

YANBU

I do wonder why people do this - my idea of hell but perhaps they enjoy it?

5inthebed · 08/05/2010 18:00

WOWY

mumblechum · 08/05/2010 18:01

I was just saying that to dh the other day. WHY on Gods earth would you drag the whole family round? The kids get fractious and want all sorts of unsuitable crap, the whole family takes up 4 or 5 times aas much space as one person and it takes waaaaay longer with all the bloody consultation about every bottle of wine.

Aaaargh.

darkandstormy · 08/05/2010 18:03

Traceybath, I wondered this myself actually, perhaps some sort of new "extreme sport" wheel the screaming family around in the super large character trolleys whilst seeing how many old ladies stockings they can ladder.

OP posts:
undercovamutha · 08/05/2010 18:04

YABU - we sometimes go as a family - often because we are on the way back from somewhere, and want to also stop for something to eat in the supermarket cafe to save us cooking when we get home.

However, it is my DH who is most annoying in the supermarket, due to his total lack of patience in any kind of shopping situation, so I usually leave him home with the DCs if I can help it !

4andnotout · 08/05/2010 18:05

I cannot drive so dp has to take me shopping so all
of my four dd's come to, Internet shoppng is fine if you can afford to shop in a supermarket that does home
deliveries and live in an area where they deliver.
