should post in one thread so the rest of us sane, reasonable people who understand how the internet works can just hide one damn thread and move on with our lives?

I mean, really people. Maybe you should learn how the 'net actually works before being allowed to post on it.

No one is tracking you via your FB or Twitter.

MN has not violated your privacy any more than they have in the past when they themselves have posted links to those two places.

Go ahead and flame me.

But really, learn something. Bitch with knowledge. Not out of fear.

Thank you.

YANBU.

comewhinewithme · 01/05/2010 08:55

YANBU

GypsyMoth · 01/05/2010 08:57

Not up to you what threads people start...... Same could be said about election threads, ash threads etc

Gibbon · 01/05/2010 08:58

So because people don't understand something, they deserve this tirade do they?

I may understand how it works, but I also understand that some people who may not, have a very real fear of being found out.

So why don't you learn something. Like a little understanding or compassion.

UndertheBoredWalk · 01/05/2010 09:00

YANBU, I couldn't even post on those threads I was getting too wound up by them. Totally agree with learn about it if you're going to use it, honestly the hysteria would have been bloody funny if it wasn't so irritating! lol

Tee2072 · 01/05/2010 09:00

I have plenty of understanding and compassion for people who don't run around like chickens with their heads cut off due to a small change in MN that really doesn't change anything. Ask a reasonable question about how it works, no problem. Feel like vomiting because of it? Get a fucking life and some education.

And you're right Threeblondeboys. I can't dictate what threads people start. But if there can be 10000 threads bitching about the buttons? I have just as much right to start one thread bitching about the bitching.

I'm going out for the morning soon. I'll read all the 'you're such a bitch' comments when I get back around lunchtime, okay?

Gibbon, people were explaining how it worked, that it wasn't anything to worry about etc etc But it was seemingly being not read or just ignored and the hysteria continued. I am not usually wound up by posts and am quite happy to explain anything I know about that others may not but it was just madness and frustrating.

GypsyMoth · 01/05/2010 09:03

I've only seen 2 of these threads!!!

UndertheBoredWalk · 01/05/2010 09:04

S'ok Tee, if you're going to get a flaming, I'll stand and be flamed with you. YADNBU

GoldenSnitch · 01/05/2010 09:05

How have I managed to miss all of these hysteria threads?!?

Gibbon · 01/05/2010 09:05

'Get a fucking life and some education.'

You're a charmer Tee, make no mistake.

Tee2072 · 01/05/2010 09:06

Thanks Undertheboredwalk!!

And now I really am heading to shower and get out for the morning before the rain starts!

Blimey

BudaisintheZONE · 01/05/2010 09:07

Well as this seems to be a nice calm thread can I ask a question please? Cos I am a bit think and don't know if I understand it all!

I keep MN and FB very separate. Not a member of MN FB group (I was but cancelled ages ago) and haven't commented 'Like' or become a fan. There should be no 'links' between MN and me on FB should there? I am assuming not but would like to be sure. Have nothing to hide but just like to keep it all separate.

EricNorthmansmistress · 01/05/2010 09:07

YANBU! But possibly no need for the vitriol...

BudaisintheZONE · 01/05/2010 09:07

A bit 'thick'. And I can't type!

GypsyMoth · 01/05/2010 09:10

Has anyone seen more than 2 threads on this??

UndertheBoredWalk · 01/05/2010 09:11

Buda there is no link between you on here and you on FB unless you out yourself on either.
The adding of the buttons on here, changes nothing with regards to linking you anywhere, really.
An awful lot of websites have FB buttons these days, the ones on here are no different to them. All they do is make it a bit easier for people who link MN threads onto their FB, now they can do it by clicking instead of c+p.

PuppyMonkey · 01/05/2010 09:12

Great idea to start another thread about the whiole issue then, eh?

fortyplus · 01/05/2010 09:12

I'm a boring old fogey... and a bit of a technophobe to boot... but I use MN and FB. I tend not to join groups.

But I understand enough about the internet to know that I can just hide anything that irritates me. Stupid threads... Farmville...

JustMyTwoPenceWorth · 01/05/2010 09:15

No. There is no link between mnyou and facebook if you haven't joined a mn group.

When you click on the f, it takes you to a fb link to this thread (or whatever thread you happen to be on when you click it) you then have the option to share. If you do, it will create a link from your facebook to the mn thread.

If you put the link on your facebook, then people can click it, to mn and read the mn thread? So if someone doesn't want people to know they MN, they shouldn't share a thread on fb!

So, in short, I cannot click on your f and see your fb. Nobody from mn can get to your facebook. But if you create a link then people on your facebook will get a link to mn thread.

Try it. Click on the f next to my name.

JustMyTwoPenceWorth · 01/05/2010 09:16

Oh, there's no link between the F button on here and your fb even if you have joined an mn group, btw!

BudaisintheZONE · 01/05/2010 09:20

Ok thanks guys. I thought so. Will keep the two separate.

JackBauerIsZonerrific · 01/05/2010 09:22

'Bitch with knowledge. Not out of fear.'
I'm nicking that.

Hey Buda, the only worry, that I can see, is if you link a thread you are on on your fb then people might be able to guess who you are on the thread, thus giving them your nickname.
I won't be using it, but am not bothered.

GoldenSnitch · 01/05/2010 09:24

If you click on the F and create a link to MN on your facebook page - that is all it is - a link to an MN thread.

There will be no flashing light going "this is Goldensnitch's real name"

Anyone clicking on it would just be able to see the thread in exactly the same way as if they were a member on here or had found it using a Google search.
