should post in one thread so the rest of us sane, reasonable people who understand how the internet works can just hide one damn thread and move on with our lives?

I mean, really people. Maybe you should learn how the 'net actually works before being allowed to post on it.

No one is tracking you via your FB or Twitter.

MN has not violated your privacy any more than they have in the past when they themselves have posted links to those two places.

Go ahead and flame me.

But really, learn something. Bitch with knowledge. Not out of fear.

Thank you.

You could always link the threads you're not on Jack, and confuse the hell out of them

EricNorthmansmistress · 01/05/2010 09:30

I think people are getting freaked because they have clicked on the F and been taken to their own FB page, and assuming that means MN and FB are somehow linked or that MN knows who they are on FB or something. What is actually happening is that if you have signed in to FB today and not signed out then clicking on any FB link will take you to your own page. If you sign out of FB and click the F button, it will ask you to sign in before posting the link. Go on - try it....

Tee2072 · 01/05/2010 09:35

Okay, well, my son has decided to have his nap after all, an hour past his usual time, so I have no gone out yet.

And yes, it needed a new thread because people were freaking out all over the other threads and not listening to the actual explanation of how it works. And, really, how the internet works in general. Something people should educate themselves on anyway.

Threeblondeboys - I've seen at least 4, not including this one, but including the official one by MN HQ.

Justmytwopenceworth - very good explanation, if people will just read it.

Jack Bauer - nick away!

Thanks for the calm explanations. The swearing and vitriol was a little unnecessary though, OP

Tee2072 · 01/05/2010 12:10

Swearing? What swearing?

And I tried the calm rational approach elsewhere and was ignored. At least now people are listening to the truth.

YABU. But then perhaps you don't believe that FB invades your privacy by stealth? And you don't see the odiousness of a FB and Twitter link next to someone's post about how they have just been bereaved, or want advice about refuges because they are in danger from an abusive husband? And perhaps you don't see the problem with the fact that Mumsnet archives posts that were written in good faith before linking the site to one that regularly invades its members' privacy?

potoftea · 01/05/2010 14:17

Okay please don't laugh at me.....but who's picture is it I see when I click on the facebook logo? It's a boy in a swimming pool wearing a blue swimshorts. I don't have a facebook page by the way.

Kaloki · 01/05/2010 14:23

potoftea Look to the right of this page above MNTV, is that the picture you see? Facebook just picks an image from the page you've linked to.

potoftea · 01/05/2010 14:27

Ah yes....thanks for that. Was wondering who the random child was.

Kaloki · 01/05/2010 14:42

No probs. You wouldn't know if you didn't use facebook

Tee2072 · 01/05/2010 15:25

WhenwillIfeelnormal...If you don't click the button, nothing will happen. If you think MN hasn't already posted threads on these two places, you're kidding yourself.

Also, if you think someone doesn't put 'bereaved from death of child' or similar into Google or similar and doesn't get MN as the first link? Then you've never done a Google or other search engine search with a child based keyword.

And MN makes no secret of the fact that they own your posts and can do whatever they like with them. Read the first page of 'Talk'.

OP posts:
johnworf · 01/05/2010 16:14

hahahahaha. Do people on MN seriously think that all these chat threads are secret from everyone 'on the outside'???? Well think again! Anyone can read the crap quality stuff we talk about.

DUH.

johnworf · 01/05/2010 16:15

I meant to add.....half of it has been posted on the Daily Mail website FFS.

WhenwillIfeelnormal · 01/05/2010 16:55

Tee - you are wrong. Perhaps you've never had experience of increased privacy invasion when one site links to another? Perhaps you don't realise how much FB invades your privacy without you even knowing? This is why I am not a FB user - apart from its sheer idiocy.

Perhaps you aren't thinking strategically enough and foreseeing the risks. But don't castigate those of us who do see the risks.

johnworf · 01/05/2010 17:09

whenwillIfeelnormal if you're not a FB user then you won't have already seen that the powers that be at MN Towers are already linking some thread on here to FB. You don't get a say in it. You relinquish all rights to privacy by typing stuff on the MN site. Read the talk T&Cs!

WehnwillIfeelnormal - every time you post on any internet board, or really even walk down the street, you take a risk. Life is risk.

I'm sorry if you've been so hurt by something or someone that you feel the need to hide. But you are not hidden on MN. You never have been. You never will be.

You don't even own the words you type. As JW said, read the T&C's for talk. MN owns everything on here.

Even your obvious paranoia and grief.

There is no privacy on the web. If you want privacy, move to a cave and get off line. Its the only way.

And how do you know Facebook does all that, if you don't use it? Isn't that like someone saying they don't like a book they've never read, or a type of food they've never tasted?

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 01/05/2010 17:18

BTW this is the page that comes up when I search for your username on Google.

Nope, no privacy.

OP posts:
johnworf · 01/05/2010 17:21

bibbitybobbityhat I love the way you can state my post is vile and then go on to call me a patronising arse. Quite the charmer yourself aren't you? I take great offence to this and shall be contacting MN re your insulting language.

And no, I can't grasp your point. If you don't want to be found, dont't post on open forums!!!

bibbitybobbityhat · 01/05/2010 17:22

Obviously I wouldn't have called you a patronising arse if your post weren't quite so vile.

johnworf · 01/05/2010 17:23

Oh right......that makes it all ok then.

REPORTED.

scoutliam · 01/05/2010 17:23

Thank fuck for you Tee2072, you've more patience than me though.
The panic, my lord these people must have very anxious times during day to day life.

Tee2072 · 01/05/2010 17:24

Thank you scoutliam. Too bad they aren't listening/aren't comprehending.

And I have an anxiety disorder and agoraphobia and am not as paranoid as these people!!

bibbitybobbityhat wow. Pot. Kettle. Black.

Oh dear. It only means the message will be deleted you know. I'll still think it.

johnworf · 01/05/2010 17:28

Who care what you think? You have nothing to add to this thread.
