mn is using some kind of web page tracker to link us to our facebook pages

how dare you

how fucking dare you

O.K....... Take two of the red pills and one blue, when you feel a little bit more lucid have a rest, then call me in the morning.

Rindercella · 01/05/2010 03:57

How exactly do you mean mmrbonbon?

StayGoStayGo · 01/05/2010 03:57

Does it automatically 'find' your FB page then to link? I presumed you had to go via some sort of sign in. If they just 'know' then that's abit scary IMO. Copy and paste works perfectly well for linking threads - I feel abit 'watched' TBH.

mmrbonbon · 01/05/2010 04:00

click on the fb link

it will take you to your fb page

which i have never linked to from here and i signed up under a different email address

they only way they could find it is web tracking and if they think no one else can find us through that from mn they are living in a dreamworld

i am deregistering

disgusted

OP posts:
mmrbonbon · 01/05/2010 04:01

but I would like every single post i ever made to be deleted

i am so fucking horrified

StayGoStayGo · 01/05/2010 04:01

Great for troll scouting mind.

mmrbonbon · 01/05/2010 04:04

great for abused wives with computer savvy husbands

great for people like me who need to be anonymous

OP posts:
scoutliam · 01/05/2010 04:07

Surely if you just don't click on the link it doesn't track you?
Is it not just an option? One that you can ignore if you want to?

mmrbonbon · 01/05/2010 04:15

er

how is it there in the first place if it hasn't tracked me?

i click on it, and there it is, my fb page

they found it without my help

OP posts:
fernie3 · 01/05/2010 04:20

I cant see any information about you when I click it just a pic of me and the title of the post - not sure why I would want to see this but cant see how it is giving anything about you away. Unless I am doing it wrong I dont use facebook much!

fernie3 · 01/05/2010 04:21

if you clicked remember me on facebook would it just log you in to your page anyway - so if someone else clicked it it would log them into their page not yours.

CarmenSanDiego · 01/05/2010 04:24

It's got nothing to do with Mumsnet. It's because Facebook has a cookie on your computer so if you click a facebook link from ANY website, it'll log you directly into your FB account.

Chill.

flumperoo · 01/05/2010 04:24

I'm pretty sure the link just takes you to the facebook website. If you're logged-on to facebook then it will of course take you to your own profile, just like if you googled facebook. It doesn't take you to anyone else's, so no one can see anyone's details but their own.

Monkeytoo · 01/05/2010 04:33

Yes - exactly - it's just a cookie. If you typed the link directly into your browser the same thing would happen. If you don't want this to happen you need to be more careful about selecting 'keep me logged in on this computer' when signing in to sites.

CheerfulYank · 01/05/2010 04:49

Whoa whoa whoa, it's all ok here. I can see how you'd panic since you need to remain anonymous, but it's just as everyone explained. No one is tracking you, love.

mmrbonbon · 01/05/2010 04:51

ok talk to me and thanks

can i delete the cookie

does it work only if I'm logged in to fb at the time

christ I hate this

OP posts:
mmrbonbon · 01/05/2010 04:52

it's not the finding out about others

it's the direct link from here to my profile thus destroying my anonymity however much I try to protect it

i'm just fooling myself, we're all bastard ants under the magnifying glass aren't we

OP posts:
mmrbonbon · 01/05/2010 04:55

nope, not happy

so in clicking in the first place I have created that link?

bastards, bastards, why isn't there a warning

this pisses me off so much

OP posts:
CheerfulYank · 01/05/2010 04:55

No one can see your facebook but you, though. If you were to click on the facebook icon by my name it'd lead you to yours too. No one can see your facebook. It's ok.

mmrbonbon · 01/05/2010 04:57

i know other people can't see it, that's not the point

the point is that in webworld, data world, anyone can find me from mn

OP posts:
mmrbonbon · 01/05/2010 04:57

cheerful i was short with you, i'm not cross with you, my last response was abrasive when you were being helpful, i'm sorry

OP posts:
flumperoo · 01/05/2010 05:01

mmrbonbon, I'm not sure what you mean. How do you think anyone else can track you to facebook from mn?

If YOU are logged into YOUR facebook, then of course, YOU can get to YOUR facebook.

mmrbonbon · 01/05/2010 05:22

Not regular people. Hang on.

it's this sort of thing

marketers, information gatherers

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 01/05/2010 05:43

I think you are very funny. Try going to ebay, same thing - shocker

whomovedmychocolate · 01/05/2010 05:44

Incidentally, if you do want to keep your info secret, or do a disappearing act it is possible. But don't take it lightly, it takes work.
