If your 14 yr old went for a sleepover, puked a few times, then came home and took to their bed for the next day what would you think?

Call me suspicious but my first statement was 'Have you been drinking?'

She denys it.

DH thinks I am unreasonable and DD is far too sweet, little and innocent to do such a thing.

Have you called the parent of the other child/ren at the sleep over? Are they all sick? What does the supervising parent say that they did that night? Get more info!

SloanyPony · 26/04/2010 16:05

Depends on the circs. Sounds dogey but perhaps a tummy bug? Can you smell anything on her?

If she slopes downstairs at about 6pm and has a bacon roll, 3 marsbars and a litre of coke, then maybe you are on to something...

It sounds dubious though and I can understand why you are suspicious, would have to know your DD to be able to comment really.

ADuckCalledBill · 26/04/2010 16:06

I'd be VERY suspicious too. I think Dad's find it harder to imagine their beloved dd's would do anything so awful SpatchCocked's advice sounds good to me.

JustAnotherManicMummy · 26/04/2010 16:06

Yes I'd suspect drink. I have been a 14 year old girl. There is nothing beyond their capabilities... but I would do a bit more investigating.

If she'd drunk enough to be sick she'd smell of booze surely?

EccentricaGallumbits · 26/04/2010 16:07

Rather lax dad in 'charge' at sleepover.
DD and her friends are all rather straight and sensible. She's the only one who puked.
I couldn't smell anything suspicious - and i have a very good nose. She didn't get the munchies at all.

Hullygully · 26/04/2010 16:07

I would suspect. But I am very suspicious.

biddysmama · 26/04/2010 16:09

i dunno, ive been the 14 year old girl accused of drinking when i was genuinely just sick... (maaaaaany years ago now tho lol)

AbsOfCroissant · 26/04/2010 16:10

Hm. If she's the only one who di that, then either it's a stomach bug OR the other girls are all hardened alcoholics and immune to vast quantities of alcohol.

EccentricaGallumbits · 26/04/2010 16:10

I too am suspicious. and i remeber very well raiding friends parents drinks cupboards at 14.

I'm surprisingly not overly concerned about it.

if it was booze hopefully it will put her off for a while. and atleast she was at friends house rather than lying in a park somewhere.

EccentricaGallumbits · 26/04/2010 16:11

DH thinks I have destroyed his image of her being sweet and innocent though. he thinks she's still 6

FlookCrow · 26/04/2010 16:11

Yup, she's been drinking. Teenagers will lie and lie and then get offended if you (correctly) expose their lie.

Most likely the person whos housed the sleepover took place will not know about it.

YesYouMust · 26/04/2010 16:13

Actually it doesn't sound to me like she has been drinking, this time anyway

nowit · 26/04/2010 16:14

Are you friends with any of the other girls mothers? Could you ask them?
Maybe have a chat with DD and ask her outright away from DH, let her know that you won't be angry (this time) but that it really isn't ok to do this sort of think.

Or find out if she ate something dodgy, either way you hvae a right to know what has been going on.

Swanky · 26/04/2010 16:14

Going against the grain but my 14 year old didn't drink - waited til they were 16 instead

Could have been, altho maybe not - my kids have all had a bug like that this last week.

EccentricaGallumbits · 26/04/2010 16:16

poor girl. maybe she wasn't and it was dodgy tuna.

i don't think she even likes alcohol. she hasan occasional sip at home and always says it's disgusting. apart from bileys which she rather liked.

OP posts:
YesYouMust · 26/04/2010 16:17

'Yup, she's been drinking. Teenagers will lie and lie and then get offended if you (correctly) expose their lie.'

Based on the fact that she

doesn't stink of drink, not even a whiff

the only time people are ever sick is on drink

No munchies (even after having my stomach pumped i had those )

Teenagers also do on occasion tell the truth and are bound to be annoyed when not believed, it's not an automatic admission of guilt.

gagamama · 26/04/2010 16:17

Well, if it was anything like the sleepovers I had at 14, she probably ate shedloads of sugary crap and didn't fall asleep until 6.30am. I wouldn't automatically assume alcohol was involved, but you know your DD.

Colonelcupcake · 26/04/2010 16:17

Two possibilities she was drunk and is very hungover or she has a stomach bug, if they are unlikely to be drinking you know the girls so your guess would be better they are still going to be very tired after being up all night a stomach bug is not completly out of the question if the girls ate it is also unlikely that your dd would be the sole person who is ill/hungover

hocuspontas · 26/04/2010 16:19

I always think it is down to the vast amount of sweets they eat.

EccentricaGallumbits · 26/04/2010 16:19

she's the only one who had the tuna.

so maybe she didn't get pissed then? at least she knows i'm looking out for it now.

OP posts:
Marne · 26/04/2010 16:21

Maybe she was sick due to a tummy bug, she may have eaten something that didn't agree with her or it could have been a mixture of eating junk food and lack of sleep etc..

I don't think she's been drinking.

I would trust her.

Plus if she did have a drink its probably put her off drinking again .

elliemental · 26/04/2010 16:23

i think it is v difficult, that whole trust thing at that age. You want to say you trust them, because they need to know that. But they constantly seem to do things to betray that trust!
But is terrribly galling not to be believed when you ARE telling the truth...and round and round it goes.

if she didn't smell of it, I think it was probably bug/food.

elliemental · 26/04/2010 16:23

alcohol is like fags - everyone else can smell it on you except for you!

Scrudd · 26/04/2010 16:24

Is it possible that because she's only 14, that it wouldn't take that much drink to make her puke so she wouldn't necessarily smell of it in the morning?

I would suspect alcohol too, and I was getting served in pubs every weekend at that age.

FlookCrow · 26/04/2010 16:25

I have no idea what these "munchies" are - I've never been hungry during drinking :D

Vodka doesn't smell.

You've got to admit it all looks a bit odd, and obviously that's what the OP thought, or she wouldn't have posted.
