I know I should just delete it but this kind of thing really annoys me. Also maybe Im just an over sensitive (half) greek but why is Greeks in capitals.....She sent this this morning:

The writer of this piece emigrated to UK just over 40 years ago - On the ship there were , Italians, Yugoslavs and GREEKS, (Note - All European people!!) all looking forward to starting a new life in ENGLAND . I arrived with £20 in my pocket and that's all I had to my name. Did I put my hand out?? Of course not - I got a job and paid my way just like everyone else who came to this country back then.
Now, it's my taxes that subsidize these people who think they have a God given right (read Allah) to come here and criticise those of us who have worked for the country we now call home.

If I didn't like what I saw when I got here I would have gone home - they have the same option. If they don't want to become BRITISH , they can................GO BACK TO WHERE THEY CAME FROM - WE DON'T NEED THEM HERE!!! DO WE NO NO NO

OUR BRITAIN!!!!!
When will this stop?
They want 2 of their own public holidays, because Christians have Christmas, Easter & Good Friday,
They force our children to eat Halal Meat Pies and Sausage Rolls from the school canteens, so the Muslim kids can feel more BRITISH, we were not consulted about this change, they went ahead and just did it.
Our foods are slowly all becoming Halal foods, our cheeses, chocolates even good old sanitarium foods
Our Government is ALLOWING this to happen, it has to stop now, while we still have some power to be able to stop it.

Regarding Our National Anthem
I am sorry, but after hearing they want to sing the National Anthem in Arabic- enough is enough. No where or at no other time in our nation's history, did they sing it in Italian, Japanese, Polish, Irish (Celtic), German, Portuguese, Greek, or any other language because of immigration. It was written in English, and should be sung word for word the way it was written.
The news broadcasts even gave the translation -- not even close.
I am not sorry if this offends anyone, this is MY COUNTRY - IF IT IS YOUR COUNTRY SPEAK UP -- please pass this along I am not against immigration just come through like everyone else. Get a sponsor; have a place to lay your head; have a job; pay your taxes, live by the rules AND LEARN THE LANGUAGE as all other immigrants have in the past -- and LONG LIVE GREAT BRITAIN !

PART OF THE PROBLEM. Think about this: If you don't want to forward this for fear of offending someone -YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM !!!!

Will we still be the Country of Choice and still be BRITAIN if we continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other countries who have come to live in BRITAIN because it is the Country of Choice??
Think about it!
IMMIGRANTS, NOT BRITONS , MUST ADAPT.
It is Time for THE BRITS to Speak up.

No - it's horrific! I'd ask her not to send you crap like that again.

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/04/2010 12:07

delete it !

thehillsarealive · 26/04/2010 12:08

if this is being sent via work email I would be very careful - isnt there some rules about using work stuff for this type of email?

not sure what else to say about this. Part of me agrees, part of me is horrified.

southeastastra · 26/04/2010 12:08

it's actually quite frightening how these type of emails etc are escalating. internet's making is so much easier for people to spread this hate filled stuff. they should get a life themselves.

asteri · 26/04/2010 12:09

I have just deleted it, im going to get more wound up if I see it again. I just dont see why some people have to try and make you feel un-british if you dont want to be racist.

OP posts:
MmeLindt · 26/04/2010 12:09

Is it someone you work with on a regular basis? I would tell them to stop sending you racist emails, and if she sends you anything like that again, forward it to your HR department.

You are not being over sensitive.

BleachedWhale · 26/04/2010 12:12

Completely inappropriate to spread this sort of xenophobic nonsense within the workplace. Delete immediately - though frankly if someone sent that to me at work, telling me I was part of the problem if I didn't forward it, I would be inclined to forward it directly to HR with a complaint.

The issue is not whether or not you agree with it, but that is it inappropriate to send at work.

MmeLindt · 26/04/2010 12:12

TheHills
That is why these kind of emails are so dangerous, because there is a tiny bit of us that agree with the sentiment that people who work hard should be rewarded and skivers should not get handouts.

It is however NOTHING to do with whether the person is Greek, Italian, German (and those European countries are thrown in to put us off the scent), this hateful email is directed towards Muslims.

Firawla · 26/04/2010 12:12

If it is work email then report her to HR as its a clearly racist/discriminatory email, or even like hate mongering. She sounds like a horrible person to send this, what an idiot and yanbu @ all to be annoyed.
What is all this about national anthem anyway, i have not heard anyone asking to sing it in Arabic, and i dont think we really have any interest in singing the national anthem in Arabic, its all just hysterical over exagerations and ridiculous panicking.
I dont think she means any offense to Greeks though, seems like more to Muslims? (greeks are okay cos they are european it seems she is saying? not sure...) - eitherway it is a load of crap

asteri · 26/04/2010 12:14

MmeLindt it is someone within the same department I used to work closely with her but since I moved projects I dont work with her as often.

Unless you work for the BNP I don't think sending that sort of thing can be classed as working.

I'd be replying asking her to stop sending you racist emails and then send a copy to HR to monitor.

itsmeitsmeolord · 26/04/2010 12:22

It is offensive. However, if you "just delete" as other posters have suggested, then you are almost sanctioning this to continue in my opinion. I don't get this "not in my backyard" attitude. We "walk on by" fat too much I think and then we moan about how it is getting worse.....

It is a work email address, therefore your employer expects you all to stick to the it policy? I would forward this to HR and ask them to consider if it is acceptable under the current i.t policy and also if it is accpetable under the current H.R policy. After all, even if the I.T policy hasn't been breached it is still an email promoting racism.

ooojimaflip · 26/04/2010 12:24

Asteri - HR.

asteri · 26/04/2010 12:25

I did cave and delete it so I wouldnt have to look at it, however its currently lurking in my Deleted items folder, I keep asking myself should I forward it HR/her manager (depending what the policy is)

I would email her and tell her that you consider this kind of email very offensive and are considering forwarding it to HR. See what she says.

My SIL forwarded stuff like that for a while until I wrote saying that I was surprised that she would send me this kind of email, as I had thought that she was a very tolerant and openminded person.

bibbitybobbityhat · 26/04/2010 12:28

Asteri - reply saying you don't agree with anything expressed in that vile racist email (I assume you don't), what makes her think you'd want to receive it?, please never send anything like it to you again, if it happens again you will report to HR or her line manager.

Thediaryofanobody · 26/04/2010 12:28

I would go to management with a complaint thats an awful email to receive the line of " If you don't want to forward this for fear of offending someone -YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM !!!!"
Is bullying and rather threatening IMO.

Send it to HR. I bolloking from them is more likely to have an effect than anything you say, and stops it being personal.

Also she may have done it before - this would potentially make it a more serious matter. Similarly if she does it again and you haven't told HR they will not be able to judge the future action accurately.
