To sew a little willy on the doll I'm making for my son?

I'm making a first birthday present for my son. It's a cloth version of him, newborn size, like the one's on this site kids.nunodoll.com/lifesize/babe07.html

I'm putting in lots of detail, so it has fingers and ears and belly button and toes. I know he'll be fascinated by all the features. He sits and examines things like this for ages.

What I'm not sure about though is whether it should have a litle willy though? In some respects I feel odd leaving it off, it's a glaring ommission in my eyes. My son doesn't know his willy is any different to any other part of his body.

Makes me question why dolls don't have little willies and fannies. What are we subtly teaching are young uns by silently ommiting them ? I remember being a tad curious and freaked out by the sexless dolls I had as a child. Was it the beginning of a sense of shame in your body?

In other respects though I can't bring myself to sew one on. Feel like I'd be making some kind of mini sex doll. And that people that saw his doll would be weirded out, embarassed and think I was an oddball.

what does the mumsnet jury think?

Yes to the willy from me too.

Very impressed at your impressive sewing skills!
Fashioning a penis would defeat me, try as I might.

shockers · 26/04/2010 19:31

I would but I don't think I'd have it 'hanging free'. I'd sew it down so it doesn't get pulled or chewed off.

I had a boy Tiny Tears when I was little... his was sort of attached underneath but it was plastic.

StrictlyKatty · 26/04/2010 19:36

Sewing a hankie would defeat me!

MudandRoses · 26/04/2010 19:58

I had one of those dolls which had another head under its skirt when I was a kid. You turned it over and pulled the skirt down and it was a different character. Now that IS freaky.

Disenchanted3 · 26/04/2010 20:02

If its a boy doll give it a willy

Just don't do what my family did and present it to your child for its birthday then ask her to change its bum so everyone can burst into laughter when you take the nappy off to first see the willy

pointydog · 26/04/2010 20:09

if it is a very very detailed doll, then I suppose you should add the willy

frekkles · 26/04/2010 22:07

Tiny willy and balls made and in position!

Tried to advice on the Proportions of weewilly to teeny scrotum from DH who said that if you need to look to find the balls they are too small. He also said that the willy was too big, and visibly winced and looked away when I chopped it in half. Good to have a man about the house for this kind of advice!

Really glad I put it on now, looks really natural and sweet and much better with it! Thank you ladies, I'm well pleased with your advice, and have also enjoyed all the laughs too!

Yes to willy! A t-shirt slogan if ever I heard one!

lolol

frekkles · 26/04/2010 22:27

I'll post a picture when it's all done. I still need to embroider the face and give him a haircut. And then sew him a wizard costume! Labour of live this! I hope he gets played with! I'll cuddle him if he doesn't x

frekkles i am in awe...your little boy is very lucky!

SunSoakedStone · 27/04/2010 09:29

you appear to have air time on The Wright Stuff...

Peaceflower · 27/04/2010 09:31

Watching the wright stuff too....

brightyoungthing · 27/04/2010 09:40

My sister had a be-willied doll call Steven and we spent hours examining him! I seem to remember he always needed his nappy changing and operations on his winkle
My poor sexless doll was left by the wayside as we devoted all our time to the lovely Steven, and suffice it to say now my sister is 29 she still loves a bit of willie

I think you should do it, it's a perfectly normal part of anatomy and if it feels strange to you it's only because of all the 'adult knowledge' stored in your head and won't your DS ask where the willy is??

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 27/04/2010 09:42

Was going to start a thread about the Wright Stuff - see it's already been spotted.

frekkles · 27/04/2010 10:26

no blood way!

from the wright stuff web site......"And finally do boy dolls need boy bits? If you had too much time on your hands, what would you start fretting about? Well, for the harridans on a trash blogging site for child-obsessed women, it?s whether or not dolls should be anatomically correct. Well should they? "

I'm a child obsessed haridan with too much time on my hands am I? crikey. I thought I was just a young mum, spending the only spare time she has after looking after her baby and working three jobs to make him a birthday present after he goes to bed each night?

Am I being unreasonable to be a bit offended?

I've never seen this programme before. Looks awful! Is it?

I love the wright stuff. I personally think that someone who works there uses this site anyway and takes it to work. Personally I think theres more interesting threads to talk about than whether or not dolls should have boy bits.

Not that this is a pointless thread as I genuinely believe you wanted advice, but for a debate surely there's more subjects they could use.

I also think that when Mr Wright describe Mumsnet the way he does, he is just trying to get a reaction. I always have a chuckle inside to myself about it as I believe there are SOME people who his discription will fit, but most of us are not.

Also at DD's toddler group there are boy dolls so YANBU.

KiddingAnxiously · 27/04/2010 10:35

He sounds very very bitter about something?

fartblossom · 27/04/2010 10:35

Also I dont see the problem with using threads from here. He's got to talk about something so why not what we are talking about? After all there are some interesting dicussions. Also dont know why it is lazy of them? They see something interesting and use it, why not?

No doubt I will get loads of reasons why he should not talk about topics from MN, but anyway thats my view. Feel free to change my mind. Im easily persuaded

fartblossom · 27/04/2010 10:36

discussions (whoops)

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 27/04/2010 10:38

It's not that he shouldn't talk about threads from MN.

It's the fact that he constantly slags off MN while getting half of his subject material from it.

fartblossom · 27/04/2010 10:40

Isnt that cos there was a thread started that said he should get his own stuff so now he has retaliated by saying these sort of things?

He never used to did he? I cant remember now so I will accept if Im wrong, but I thought thats what happened.

StableButDeluded · 27/04/2010 10:42

Well, YANBU to be a bit offended, they obviously don't know anything about MN or it's users.
