Have just been informed by DH that a unit a few yrs back serving in Iraq did exactly the same - posing semi nude in front of vehicles and equipment etc - and sold them to the us soldiers. They raised a load of cash for brtish soldiers returning to the uk injured...........the soldiers posing were WOMEN.

More willing sexual display should mean less coercive sexual display

But that's just not true. The MoD survey showed that women serving found pornography and sexual material in the workplace was intimidating and contributed to a threatening, sexist culture.

hf128219 · 23/04/2010 16:14

And what do the men think of the women's vibrators on display on their lockers in shared tents?

JaneS · 23/04/2010 16:24

hf, I have no idea what you're on about.

I'm off to the fight thread for some (comparatively) intellectual stimulus.

luciemule · 23/04/2010 16:41

The survey that the MoD carried out would surely be representative of any large employer with high numbers of men and fewer women. I think that by isolating the MoD is narrow minded. I'm sure any working woman in the UK is surveyed, might find that sort of material intimidating. You're speaking Carmen as if it's only the forces that have issues with a sexist culture.Everywhere does for goodness sake.

CarmenSanDiego · 23/04/2010 17:38

So it's ok to display and create material that 'any working woman' might find intimidating, because other people are doing it?

I agree Nubian however I should imagine some of them have increased self esteem knowing x amount of men with their brains in their gonads are having a hand shandy over them- proves dey is bootiful innit!

Why would you think they suffer from low self esteem? Perhaps they are exhibitionists and are just doing it for fun.
The majority people on this thread (ex-dependents/current ones excluded)who disagree with the calendar, really don't have much of a clue about the forces and the way of life at all. You assume a lot and haven't replied to many of the points I put on here, such as the comment on the swags website from Sir Richard Dannett etc.

Nubian - your last comment is quite sick imo. If you honestly think that our soldiers are 'murdering' innocent women, men and children, then you really have no idea about the current conflict and what the allied forces are trying to achieve..

luciemule · 23/04/2010 19:48

Do you know how much British money went into rebuilding germany after WWII? The UK has a long history of ploughing in money to rebuild/support the contries in which it fights/protects.

luciemule · 23/04/2010 19:51

I find this far more disgusting and weird and would have been by children

The British Forces are in Afghanistan as part of the International Security Assistance Force. Working with other Nato forces they are attempting to bring stability, through development and reconstruction, to the country after the Taliban were overthrown.

The Taliban not only operated a despicable regime but harboured Al Queda after 9/11.

The British Forces also work alongside the indigenous people of Afghanistan training their Army and Police Forces.

Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries in the world, one that was ravaged by Civil War, and needs every support.

luciemule · 23/04/2010 21:28

Nubian and that webpage refers to the british Army how???
You're steering well away from the point and turning RRW's original post about women demeaning themselves in a calendar into a fors and against the Afghan conflict.

Nubian - What is unbelievable?

luciemule · 23/04/2010 21:34

I really don't get which part of any comment I said was 'sick' as you put it Nubian.
Unlike in previous wars and conflicts, the british Army's main job role is peace keeping and in order to do that, yes inncocent people will die but having seen footage of the Taliban exploding IEDs in the streets, where there are adults and children going about their daily lives, I realise that although civilians may die, the army are there for the right reasons.
If we're going to get into that debate, then how cruel was it to send thousands of men knowingly to their deaths during WWI when pushing over the trenches? Military warfare changed massively after WWI for the very reason that just sending men over the top was pointless and cruel.
Every day, medical teams and pilots put their lives at risk, flying into villages and towns to rescue children or adults who have had limbs torn apart etc.
