I personally find the calander quite tasteless. This has been done over and over again and I think this one has got more attention because it is more risque than the other ones. The wives at dh last regiment did one but it didn't get as much coverage becuase the girls were maybe not as 'pretty' and the pictures less titillating.

RedRedWine1980 · 23/04/2010 10:54

And they'd prob raise even more if they made a porno or did a charity lapdance see where we are heading here? Why does 'raising more money' mean pushing the boundaries of decency?`

I don't think the calendar is indecent. you can't see anything can you.

Or are you really such a prude?

RedRedWine1980 · 23/04/2010 11:00

It doesnt matter whether you can actually see anything, its the implication that the 'lovely ladies' are climbing fences/having food fights in the buff.
Call me a prude or all the names under the sun really, it doesnt make any difference to me. Just remember I havent resorted to calling the people who agree with it slappers or tarts.

OP posts:
luciemule · 23/04/2010 11:02

here

hf128219 · 23/04/2010 11:03

Red - Do you have a problem with 'nudity'?

luciemule · 23/04/2010 11:03

It was 'end of' not off. I wasn't saying it to you RRW - just that to me, there's no more to it than the raising of lots of cash for a good cause. 'End of' isn't telling you not to talk about it anymore.

JaneS · 23/04/2010 11:04

'Regardless though of any money being involved, when it comes down to it, women and men will always use their bodies in a sexual way because it's how we're wired and it's because of science and the ability to have we live today, that means people think very differently and our inherent natured are masked. Now I'm not suggesting we should go back to the dark ages and slavery/children down the mines etc, but I'm just saying that women and men will always use their bodies to get what they want.'

Sorry, but anyone who says something as crashingly stupid as 'it's because of science' loses all credibility in my view.

You are trying to whitewash something here, which makes me suspect you are, deep down, not terribly comfortable with it yourself.

hf, I'm a huge prude, me. Oh yes.

RedRedWine1980 · 23/04/2010 11:05

No I dont have a problem with nudity. Anything else you want to throw at me? Are you going to come out with 'do you hate men' 'are you jealous' 'are you ugly'???

If you read the thread you will already know why I object im not going to repeat myself a few hundred times because you cant be arsed to read the thread.

luciemule · 23/04/2010 11:06

Oooh - hf - now that one would defo go with my vintage kitchen .

RedRedWine1980 · 23/04/2010 11:07

These people are not nudists, they are a bunch of silly giggling women who know stripping off and having photos of them covered in cream will make a bunch of people who think with their genitals pleased. Charity or not thats whats behind it.

OP posts:
luciemule · 23/04/2010 11:09

LRD - you are so wrong - I don't have a problem with it all.

Okay - so in June, it's national breast Feeding Awareness week and I'm sure they'll be a few photo opps of women with breasts out (although, yes, it's completely possible to breastfeed with nothing showing). Is that wrong in your eyes RRW/LRD?

luciemule · 23/04/2010 11:10

oh and I emailed Kelly to say congratulations and to give the link to this thread. Thought she might be interested to have a bit of a lurk.

RedRedWine1980 · 23/04/2010 11:11

Are you seriously comparing this to breastfeeding? Lucie you really are clutching at straws now.

OP posts:
RedRedWine1980 · 23/04/2010 11:11

Good for you Lucie - arent you a trooper.

OP posts:
weegiemum · 23/04/2010 11:12

You see, This is far better!

hf128219 · 23/04/2010 11:13

RedRedWine - I think you need to calm down a little. I called you a 'prude' - I think it's a pretty fair description of someone who seems so easily shocked by a touch of nudity.

I have called you nothing else.

RedRedWine1980 · 23/04/2010 11:14

Oh ermm yeh Weegie- nice... just illustrates my point yet again how tacky/common/old hat stripping for a calender is!

OP posts:
luciemule · 23/04/2010 11:14

No - so you're saying that it's only if women show their breasts to make money, that you're bothered? I'm not clutching at straws - just trying to point out that it's not all cut and dried.

It's nothing about being a trooper, I honestly thought they'd be interested to know about the dog picture.

RedRedWine1980 · 23/04/2010 11:15

Its nowt to do with 'being shocked by a bit of nudity' as ive already explained- not going to waste any more time arguing with someone who cba to read what I say.

OP posts:
RedRedWine1980 · 23/04/2010 11:17

Breastfeeding is about feeding a child Lucie- nothing else. Are you suggesting people who publicly breastfeed do it so they can be looked at? If you can grasp this humungous difference then you really are losing grip here.

OP posts:
JaneS · 23/04/2010 11:18

No, lucie. I am perfectly happy swimming in the nude too. And with communal showers, and with my body.

I don't suppose I was ever as gorgeous as RRW, but I am now size 12, 34E breasts, quite happy with my figure. And when I was a slim little 20 year old I happily wandered around student lettings semi-clad en route to the shower, just like everyone else.

What I dislike here isn't the nudity, obviously. It's the fact that these women

a) Have to raise money for the troops, because the government got into a stupid war they now aren't funding properly, and

b) Are posing in positions that suggest they're being threatened and/or decorating war paraphernalia and, explicitly (this being a nude calendar) associating these things with sexuality. I don't find being threatened by an Alsatian sexy; I don't think it should be portrayed as sexy. Given that there is a (doubtless non-deliberate, just ignorant) parallel with Nazi atrocities, I don't see how anyone could continue to defend this.

CarmenSanDiego · 23/04/2010 11:25

Oh really. It's not the nudity that's the issue. It's the gormless poses, the bending over, the submissiveness, the brainless stares, the 'come and get it' fucktoy-esque legs akimbo up against a fence...

It has absolutely zero to do with breastfeeding and absolutely zero to do with being prudish. I have a background in performance art. I've seen people naked, covering themselves in their own shit in the name of art.

But I think this is stupid, vapid and harmful. It is massively disrespectful to women who serve and have served in the forces. As I said, my grandmother was a Wren. This really undermines how hard women have worked to get respect because it does take the female body en masse and treat it as a cheap object for titillation. Just lots of interchangeable arses on display. Yuck. It also underlines that the only suitable role for a female in the services is as a cheerleader for her big brave hubby and something warm and easily fuckable to come home to.

luciemule · 23/04/2010 11:26

I know what I mean. The breastfeeding thing isn't irrelevant; the women will be showing their breasts to raise awareness - ooh - same as the army wives.

RedRedWine1980 · 23/04/2010 11:28

Its quite easy to raise awareness of the attrocities of war without whipping your tits out- breastfeeding isnt really...
