to think that Ocado should offer me something different?

Just started using Ocado, after many good recommendations from MN! Love it so far, except one thing. After my first order they offered me a free bottle of wine with my next shop. We took the offer, even though we don't drink alcohol, with the intention of passing it on to a friend. They've done the same this time, a free bottle of wine. I've also noticed alot of the meal 'bundles' come with an alcoholic drink.

I feel like we're excluded from alot of the deals Ocado offer because we don't drink alcohol. I've spoken to their customer services who tell me that we "don't have to take them up on the offer" and that "there isn't a non-alcoholic substitution". AIBU to think this is a bit unfair, and perhaps even discriminatory? Expecially against people who's religion dictates that they shouldn't drink alcohol?

I imagine they do it because they want you to buy (ie. pay for) their wine. They're not really doing it to be nice to you, they're doing it to a) make more people order from them and b) advertise their wine.

So why should you get something else that wouldn't achieve that for them?

Ledodgy · 19/04/2010 14:02

God I have been waiting for a free wine offer for ages they keep giving us free nice ham every week. Don't get me wrong I like ham but it isn't as entertaining on a Friday night.

emsyj · 19/04/2010 14:04

YABU. It's free. If you don't want it, don't take it. Or accept it and put it in the cupboard for next time you're called upon to bring a bottle to a party or something.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 19/04/2010 14:07

Send it to meeee batty!

You can keep it and take it to the school for the tombowla/give it to a friend.

There should be more choice of non alcoholic stuff though, I'm not a huge drinker, it would be nice to have something else. Chocolate maybe.

BattyKoda · 19/04/2010 14:07

I want nice ham. Swap?!

Just a bit rubbish that they won't take the fact that we are tee total into consideration when offering free stuff - mind you I could sue them if I fall off the wagon??

Ledodgy · 19/04/2010 14:10

Ok but unless you live in/near Liverpool I doubt my nice ham would be very nice after being in the sorting office for a couple of days. The wine however would be fine so yes i'll swap.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 19/04/2010 14:11

Sob! All I had free this week was a large sachet of pureed fruit!!

BattyKoda · 19/04/2010 14:12

2 bottles in a row... it's Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc.

Oenopod · 19/04/2010 14:14

If you take the wine on offer, their computers will automatically register you as 'likes wine, send more'.

Don't accept it and they might offer you something else. It's a free gift, you're not being discriminated against, or being 'done' out of something.

Or keep it and give it away! Offer it to guests who aren't dry.

I've never been been give free wine...

YABU to complain about something for nothing.

honeydragon · 19/04/2010 14:17

when m&s do meal deals they incude several soft drink options - which are often worth more than the wine. When I pointed this out to waitrose they stated they are intending to do the same soon so perhaps ocado will follow suit.

BattyKoda · 19/04/2010 14:20

Thats useful to know honeydragon.

StarExpat · 19/04/2010 14:22

How do you keep getting free offers? Do you spend a lot? I only spend £40 per shop, so maybe that's why? I was offered a free bottle of wine the first time we had a delivery but I lost the receipt and didn't know how to claim it... so maybe they think I don't want their offers? Would love a bottle of wine...

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 19/04/2010 14:25

They email the offers to you expat, there's a code on the email. Check they are not being sent to your junk mail folder

IngridFletcher · 19/04/2010 14:26

ham? wine?

screwed if you are a muslim then!

BattyKoda · 19/04/2010 14:29

Thats what I thought IngridFletcher. But then I guess it would get quite complicated. Not hard to offer a substitute though surely?

OP posts:
BattyKoda · 19/04/2010 14:30

I spend about £90 a week StarExpat, but have only ordered twice!

LadyBiscuit · 19/04/2010 14:32

They stopped giving me free stuff yonks ago Actually I was supposed to get a bottle of wine the other week but they were out of stock and I didn't get so much as a bottle of lemonade instead. Bloody swizz

pigsinmud · 19/04/2010 14:34

YABU - They are giving you free wine! I don't understand the problem. If you don't want it, then don't put the code in or give to someone else.

I never buy bundled meals as 9 times out of 10 they are meat based and we are veggie. I haven't complained about it though.

BattyKoda · 19/04/2010 14:36

Don't you think they should have a veggie option though schilke?

OP posts:
BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 19/04/2010 14:37

But you are still getting £10 off batty Send me the code, I'll drink it for you. I don't do the bundle offers either, they have either already gone or I don't want to eat what they have on offer.

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 19/04/2010 14:39

YABU

It is not discrimination, it is a free gift. Some people don't eat ham..

stleger · 19/04/2010 14:46

If they had a veggie option it would be pasta bake. It is always pasta bake . I think Waitrose should offer wine or something juicy. I don't have a Waitrose .

BattyKoda · 19/04/2010 14:51

Belle... I did a bundle on both shops, first was the king prawn thai curry and second was the oriental box with appletiser and ice cream.

OP posts:
BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 19/04/2010 14:54

I don't like prawns.

They are fab though don't you think?? The butter chicken is really nice, I buy one of these, some carrot pilau rice and bombay potatoes then I freeze half of each so I get 2 meals for £3.00 each. Bargain! I just need some wine to go with it.....
